Diamond is a beautiful 5-year-old black Pit Bull/Lab mix with a playful personality, an affectionate side, and a story of remarkable resilience. After experiencing severe neglect and arriving in heartbreaking condition, Diamond has blossomed into a sweet, goofy companion who is ready for the loving home she deserves.
Diamond knows how to enjoy life's simple pleasures! She loves her toys, enjoys going for walks, and occasionally breaks into the most adorable zoomies. She's also got a wonderfully affectionate side. Diamond enjoys belly rubs, likes lying close to her favorite people, and, according to her previous foster, loves cuddling and sleeping beside her humans.
She's a pleasure to take on walks, with lovely leash manners and an enthusiasm for getting outside. And recently, after a hiatus from adoption events, Diamond made her return and did absolutely wonderfully! Even with other dogs and plenty of activity around her, she remained calm, quiet, and composed. It was a wonderful reminder of how well this sweet girl can handle a busy environment.
Diamond would enjoy a home where she can have regular walks, playtime, and opportunities to explore, followed by some quality relaxation with her people. She may even be a candidate for apartment living, provided her exercise and enrichment needs are met and the environment is a good fit.
And here's something especially encouraging: Diamond previously spent more than a year living in a foster home! She's reported to be house-trained and has also demonstrated excellent kennel habits, consistently keeping her space clean. At the shelter, she's generally calm and quiet, without observed pacing or other obvious signs of distress.
When meeting unfamiliar men, Diamond can be a little cautious. Rather than barking, she's been observed stepping back to give herself some space. A patient approach that allows her to get comfortable at her own pace can help her build trust.
Diamond does have some important needs that her future family should understand. She has a history of resource guarding involving valued items, so her adopter should be comfortable respecting her boundaries and following positive, reward-based management and training guidance. Someone willing to learn, be consistent, and work with her needs may be a wonderful match.
For now, Diamond is seeking an adults-only home where she can be the only pet. While she has shown encouraging calm behavior around other dogs at adoption events, her ability to share a home with another dog has not recently been assessed. Her current placement recommendations remain in place while her needs are reviewed.
Above all, Diamond needs someone who sees the wonderful companion she is today: playful, affectionate, occasionally silly, and happiest when she can enjoy life's everyday moments with someone she trusts.
After all she's overcome, Diamond deserves a home where she can finally settle in, feel safe, and be cherished.
