Story
Meet Carin   Breed: Shiba mix Age: 1 year old Sex: Spayed female Color: Light tan Weight: 10.5kg Height (to shoulder): 44cm   Rescue Story   On March 27, 2025, Carin was rescued from a wildfire site. She was found trapped in a cage filled with food waste beside another dog who had sadly perished in the fire. Despite her painful past, Carin showed incredible resilience and will to live.   Personality & Socialization   With People: Carin tends to be wary and vocal when meeting new people — it’s her way of keeping herself safe. However, once she learns to trust you, her affectionate side shines through. She becomes playful, eager to approach when called, and even loves showing her belly. She usually takes at least three days to warm up, so patience and gentle encouragement with treats are key. Once familiar, she bonds well with both men and women. She can be gently handled or lifted once she’s comfortable. She has not met children under 13 yet.   With Dogs: Carin is friendly and social with other dogs — she greets new dogs politely and enjoys playing, especially with dogs her size or smaller. She tends to gain confidence and adapt faster when another dog is around and generally avoids conflict even if another dog acts up.   With Cats: Her reaction to cats hasn’t been tested yet, but a cat test can be arranged.   Energy Level & Activity   Carin has a moderate energy level. She loves outdoor activities but also enjoys resting quietly afterward. She’s calm and relaxed indoors after exercise.   She’s more comfortable in quiet, nature-filled areas than in busy city environments, where she can still get nervous. On walks, she may rely on her handler or a canine friend for reassurance. Sudden movements or loud noises can startle her, so a double leash setup is a must for safety.   Other Notes   Carin does not guard food, shows no separation anxiety, and rarely barks—except when strangers approach, where she may bark out of caution. She’s better suited for a house rather than an apartment due to her alert barking. Car rides still make her nervous, so she prefers to be gently held during transport. She is currently house-trained outdoors.   *She received extensive medical treatment for her injuries: • Mar 27–Apr 26, 2025: Treated for third-degree burns • May 9, 2025: Underwent TPLO surgery for a partial tear in her left cranial cruciate ligament   All of her wounds have now healed completely, though the fur has not regrown on the burned areas.   Carin is a brave survivor with a gentle heart. Once she trusts you, she’ll love you with her whole being — loyal, affectionate, and always ready to be by your side. Story
Meet Dongree   Breed: Shiba mix Age: 4 years old Sex: Spayed female Colour: Brown Weight: 14kg Height (to shoulder): 45cm   Rescue Story   Donggree was rescued from a city shelter’s euthanasia list and has been waiting patiently ever since for a family of her own.   She may take a few days to open up — usually between 3 days to a week — but once she feels safe, her loving and playful personality shines through. She’s affectionate with familiar people and allows gentle handling or even being lifted once trust is built.   Personality & Socialization   Donggree has the classic Shiba mix personality — a little cautious at first, independent, yet deeply loyal once she bonds with you.   She gets along well with most dogs, both larger and smaller, but can react if another dog challenges her. For this reason, careful introductions with new dogs are recommended. With friendly dogs, however, she loves to play and enjoys companionship.   Her reaction to cats hasn’t been observed yet.   Energy Level & Behavior   Donggree has a moderate energy level. She enjoys outdoor walks and activities but settles calmly afterward. She walks well overall, though she may pull on the leash occasionally. Once the leash is on, she follows nicely and enjoys the walk.   She doesn’t guard food from people or other dogs and behaves quietly in her kennel. She feels anxious about car rides, so she prefers to be held during transport.   She’s comfortable using both pee pads indoors and pottying outdoors, which makes her adaptable to different home environments.   A Loyal and Independent Spirit   Donggree is a bright, affectionate girl with that unmistakable Shiba charm — loyal, clean, and quietly confident. She may be cautious at first, but with patience and consistency, she opens up to reveal a loving heart.   Once she trusts you, she’ll become your faithful shadow, following you with her signature calm energy and gentle eyes.   Ideal Home: A patient and understanding family who can give her the time she needs to build trust. A home that appreciates the independent but affectionate nature of Shiba mixes would be perfect for her.   Donggree may take a little time to trust, but once she does, she’ll stay by your side for life — loyal, loving, and full of quiet strength. Apply to foster or adopt to show her how beautiful the world can be. www.adoptmekr.org Please also visit our Facebook or Instagram. Story
Ari came to us as an owner surrender in July 2023, due to reactivity in his home. He is a 2 year old Shiba Inu that did not get the proper training and structure to truly thrive in his previous home (the only home he has ever known). We have seen an improvement since he arrived. He allows the people here to walk him and actually is very playful with toys. However, he is still weary of being pet if he doesn`t know you. Ari needs a home that will continue training, and get him accustomed to new surroundings, and people. Ari takes some time to trust you (can you blame him?), so multiple meet and greets are required (he IS WORTH IT!!). Our adorable fella already knows `sit` and `down` and with some extra TLC we now someone out there is going to be fast friends with Ari.If you want to find out more, contact our placement team at The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter:E: Adoption@hempsteadny.govE: Rescue@hempsteadny.govT: 516.785.5220#survivor #overbred #yorkie #doodle #husky #shepherd #terrier #mixedbreed #seeme #dogtiktok #doglove #blackwhite #brindle #senior #seniordogs #fosteringsaveslives #dogsrule #seniordog #seniordogs #animalrescue #rescued #shelterdog #shelterdogs #savealife #shelter #rescuedog #dogsofinstagram #rescuedogsofinstagram #adoptdontshop #dog #dogs #dogstagram #rescue #instadog #dogoftheday #doglife #puppy #doglover #rescuedismyfavoritebreed #dogsofinsta #doglovers #rescuedogs #doggo #love #puppylove #muttsofinstagram #puppiesofinstagram #ilovemydog #happydog #adopt #cute #pitbull #mutt #dogsofig #pitbullsofinstagram #socialmediamutts #shelterfacebookdogs #dogmom #petsofinstagram #dogslife #instagram #cutedogs #of #shelterdog #cutedog #dogphotography #doglove #puppies #dogsofinstaworld #pets #rescuepup #pet #mixedbreed #petstagram #dogrescue #instadogs #rescuedogsrock #dontbullymybreed #adoptme #furbaby #hundeliebe #lovedogs #doggy #seniordog #rescueismyfavoritebreed #dogmodel #bruisednotbroken #decompressdoggy #bemyforever #whatisforeverfamily #loveme #shelterpup #shelterpups #eastcoastshelterdogs #eastcoastshelterdog

His name is Casper he's 10 years old I had him since he was 6 months he's a great dog never bit anyone or any of the kids or other animals that I've brought into the house. He's wee wee pad trained as well as being walked on leash. Everyone that meets him falls in love with him. I would love for him to be with someone awesome just like him. He's the best dog I ever had. I guarantee he will give you the same experience. Although Casper is an older dog he's still very young at heart, He has great energy but not too much. He loves running and being outdoors. Not at all aggressive. Super sweet, playful, affectionate extremely intelligent knows paw, sit, go to bed and other commands. very obedient. Does not bother. Listens Well. Stays off bed n furniture if you tell him. He's a great dog. Easy to teach/train. If you're looking for a great companion look no further. He doesn't bark much either. He barks only to tell you someone's at the door, he needs to go out, hungry, thirsty, ill etc.

Story
**Located in Korea** Meet Glinda! She is surely going to be pop-u-lar! Rescue Story: As a puppy, she went home with a family that had four children. The kids begged to have a dog and, without any preparation, they family decided to adopt. As she grew, she began to shed, and the children became frightened. They decided to tie her up in the parking lot and left her there, neglected, for two years. The family that adopted her said that they couldn't take her with them when they moved, so she was abandoned in a parking lot and was unfortunately infected with heartworm (which has since been cured!) More About Glinda: Energy Level (1-10): 6.5 3 Keywords: Playful, Affectionate, Smart She barks when strangers visit, and sometimes barks as if she's talking when she wants something - a great communicator! When she goes for a walk, she gets scared when motorcycles or loud cars pass by. She's afraid of machine noises. However, she walks well without pulling on the leash. Despite her fear of loud noises when walking, her foster thinks she would do just fine living in the city. Favorite Things: She enjoys sniffing around and exploring! Apply to make Glinda your fateful sidekick today! ALL adoptions require a completed application and final contract. The application can be found at  WaldosRescue.org  and once you are approved to adopt you will be put in touch with the foster to see if it’s a good match. We are a RESCUE not a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks during the application approval process. We are unable to contact every applicant for every dog.  We will select the best applicant for each dog, based on the dogs needs. Waldos Rescue Pen is a 501c3 whose primary focus is rescuing dogs from the euthanasia list from high kill shelters throughout the United States. ##1843734##
