Meet Coco — A Sweet Little Survivor Ready for Her Forever Lap Please read the bio in full for answers to common questions. If you have a question not covered here, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/. Because all of our dogs live in foster homes, meet-and-greets are scheduled only after a completed application is received. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance of Landenberg, PA so our volunteers can conduct an in-person home visit. At 8 years old and just 8.5 pounds, Coco is a lovable Shih Tzu mix with a resilient spirit and a heart full of affection. This sweet girl came to us as an owner surrender in rough condition: severely matted and struggling with a painful ruptured eye. Thanks to the care she received, her left eye has been removed, her dental work is complete, and she’s feeling better than ever. Now she’s ready to start her next chapter in a loving forever home. Coco is a cuddly little companion who absolutely adores people and happily settles into your lap whenever given the chance. She’s medium-energy, enjoys playing with toys, and walks nicely on a leash. She’s friendly with dogs and kids and would do well in either a single-dog or multi-dog household. She is nearly housebroken and continues to make great progress; during very cold weather she may use pee pads. Coco sleeps comfortably in a pen in her foster’s room and is kennel trained. She eats both wet and dry food but definitely prefers the softer options. Because of her previous eye issues, Coco receives twice-daily eye drops (cyclosporine and lubricant) to keep her remaining eye healthy. She doesn’t bark much, handles being picked up well, and can manage stairs without difficulty. A fenced yard is not required. She’d be perfectly happy in a home where she can soak up love, chase a toy, and curl up beside her person. Coco’s ideal home is simply one filled with kindness, patience, and plenty of lap time. After everything she’s been through, this sweet girl is ready to give her whole heart to a family who will cherish her forever.

Story
Dog Name: Matilda Jean Breed: Mixed breed Sex: Female Age: 12 years Weight: 7 lbs Medical Needs: Blind & mostly deaf Daily eye drops for chronic dry eye. She has no teeth, so she has to eat wet food and her tongue is always hanging out. Housebroken: Does good on a schedule and will bark when she wants to go out, but also barks when she wants attention, so we go out a lot more than we need to. Will also use puppy pads if confined to a small area like a pen, otherwise she can't always find them. Crate trained: Yes Good in the car: Yes Good on a leash: No. She's old and fragile. Being carried to her destina6is her preference. Energy level: Low Need a fenced in yard: No Dog Friendly: Yes If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No Cat Friendly? Unknown, but honestly a cat is more dangerous to her than she would be to it. Kid Friendly: Unknown Much like cats, the bigger concern is their potential danger to her. If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Matilda Jean (Matty for short) is just an old lady looking for a warm comfy spot and a loving family to spend her golden years with. She loves being loved and when she's ready to be held she will bark until she gets your attention . She's also happy to accept any extra lovings you wish to bestow upon her. This girl just wants to be a lap dog, and after all she's been through, she deserves it now more than ever. Fosters Location: Dover Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application (if you already have an approved application on file email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app. ##2605659##

Story
ABOUT MOCHA & OREO Meet Oreo and Mocha, an inseparable duo of 12-year-old Shih Tzu brothers who are looking for a forever home together. These two came to HAP when their owners could no longer care for them, and they’ve been side by side ever since, truly bonded in every sense of the word. Oreo is the social butterfly of the pair, adorable, friendly, and always seeking affection. If you stop petting him, he’ll gently tuck his nose under your hand or scoot closer to make sure the love continues. He lives for treats, attention, and being close to his people. Mocha, on the other hand, is a quiet, gentle soul. He is blind and will need a calm, patient home where he can enjoy his golden years at a slower pace. Mocha’s favorite activities include curling up in a cozy spot and napping the day away, especially when he knows Oreo is nearby. These sweet senior brothers provide comfort and companionship to one another and must be adopted together. They are the perfect match for someone looking to open their heart and home to two loving seniors who ask for very little, just kindness, patience, and a soft place to land for their retirement days. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
Tiny, Tilted, and Totally Perfect Tinker is a 15-year-old, 15-pound sweetheart with a built-in head tilt that makes her look like she’s always politely listening—even though she’s deaf. She may not hear your voice, but she absolutely feels the love, and she’s all about gentle pets, cozy naps, and being your loyal little sidekick. This lovely senior gal does great with other dogs and cats and would thrive in a peaceful home where she can enjoy her golden years in comfort. If you’ve ever wanted a tiny companion who will happily accept all your affection and give you unconditional love in return, Tinker is your girl. Warning: prolonged exposure to Tinker may result in spontaneous “aww” noises. February 6, 2026, 9:02 am
