This friend has just arrived to us on transport from a high-intake shelter partner! When our friends are new to us, we are often unsure of their full background. Our staff will spend some time getting to know them and update their bio with more information as we learn. They are pending interactions with animals until they have been cleared by our vet. Please note that we often are unsure of house, crate, car, and leash training status upon arrival. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Ari is being fostered in PA. 5-12-2025 Ari did very well with her dental and lumpectomy. She had 12 teeth removed and her mass was benign. An update on her personality and potty skills: Ari is very predictable with her potty habits and only goes about 3 times a day. She sleeps completely through the night, eats her breakfast and then does her business so she can easily be taken outside to eliminate before her breakfast at lunch and then around her dinner time. If she does get up in the middle of her naps or at night, she will eliminate on a potty pad if it’s placed right by her bed. She adores lying beside her foster mom on the sofa and will nudge her hand for pets. She has yet to make a peep in her foster home. Ari is also has the softest fur ever! Little Ari is guessed to be about 12 years old and appears to be a shih tzu mix. She is a quiet, gentle, passive, loveable girl who loves her meals and can sleep like no other! She gets along well with other dogs, cats, and people of all ages. She simply ignores other dogs and cats in her foster home and needs to be in a home with gentle pets and children because it does not appear like she will defend or stick up for herself. She is just as happy to snuggle up on the sofa as she is to find her bed for the day on the floor. She seems to enjoy sniffing all she can when she’s outside but may not make the best walk buddy, as she’d rather meander and smell things. She rides well in the car and tolerates her foster mom’s kisses very well. Ari is completely blind since she has no eyes and her hearing is poor. Her foster mom keeps a potty pad close to her bed so when she gets up from her nap, she has it to potty on when her mom is working. She will not indicate a need to go out to potty. She will need to be carried outside but does fine exploring once she’s out. She cannot go up or down stairs by herself. She will have a dental and a lumpectomy of a non-cancerous mass on her cheek on May 9th and will be ready to find her forever home shortly after. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Hi Hope, This sweetheart is an approx. 5 year old Shih Tzu. She and few other dogs were surrendered to us from a commercial breeder in Lancaster when they no longer wanted to breed them. Hope is about 11 lbs. Hope came to us very nervous and timid, but that is no surprise considering her prior life. Despite that, she allows us all handling and is slowly getting used to all her volunteers and new life. We can see the sweet and loving dog hiding just underneath that scared exterior. She would like a more quiet home with another social and friendly dog that can help her with the transition. She would need to meet any resident dogs. She will come with vaccinated, microchipped, spayed and 4dx tested. She is also scheduled for a dental evaluation and will receive the dental as the vet deems necessary. Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from Wilmington, DE for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Maxwell! Maxwell is a 16-year-old, 17 lb., Lhasa Apso who was surrendered by his owner. He was suffering from painful eyes, infected ears, and bad skin, and it was time for a new beginning. Maxwell was treated for eye ulcers and had one eye removed. He received medication for his ear infections and had a dental. Maxwell is currently receiving medicated baths every two weeks to help with his skin and he will continue to get monthly allergy shots. The cost for the shots is around $50 a month. He also gets eye ointment twice a day and the cost for this is around $15 a month. Maxwell is potty trained and is good with quieter dogs and dog savvy children. He is deaf and has limited vision, so minimal stairs would be best to keep him safe. Maxwell walks well on a leash and would be fine without a yard. Maxwell is a laid back pup who likes moseying around and going on walks. He may be 16, but he still loves his toys and treats. Maxwell will also steal a slipper anytime he can and bring it back to bed with him. All Maxwell needs is a loving home to call his own. Can it please be yours? Apply today!
