Story
Chloe is a 6-year-old Shih Tzu with a sweet and gentle soul. She’s a shy girl at first, but once she gets to know you, she’ll happily follow you around and curl up beside you. If you pick her up and invite her into your chair, she’ll gladly spend the whole evening snuggled up by your side. Chloe prefers a fenced yard since she’s not a fan of walking on a leash. She’ll go potty outside as long as you take her out—she’s still learning to let her person know when she needs to go. At night, Chloe is a perfect little angel in her crate—you won’t hear a peep from her! She’s not a barker, even during the day, and enjoys spending her time relaxing and napping in cozy spots. She gets along well with other dogs and just needs a little time to warm up to new people. With patience and love, Chloe will make a calm, loyal, and cuddly companion for someone who appreciates a quiet and easygoing friend. Chloe is spayed, up to date on all vaccines, had a heart worm test, on heartworm preventative, de-wormed, and microchipped. Chloe’s adoption fee is $350.00. Please go to our website aaprescue.org to learn about our adoption process.

Story
📍 Located in Troy, MO 📩 Applications at leiashope.org Cameo – 2.5-Month-Old Male TeddyBear (Bichon/Shih Tzu) Meet Cameo, a sweet and spirited little TeddyBear puppy! He loves playing with the other puppies in his foster home, chasing toys, and zooming around being silly. Cameo’s happy personality shines through everything he does — from his playful hops to his curious little nose nudges. When he first arrived, Cameo had a sensitive tummy and some digestive struggles. His tests were all clear for parasites, so we went into detective mode and discovered that his system does best on Zignature kibble topped with Steve’s and a spoonful of pumpkin. His tummy has been much happier since! He may outgrow this sensitivity, or he may always need a quality diet to stay feeling his best. Cameo is also known for his shadow skills — he loves to follow foster mom everywhere and occasionally get underfoot, so he’s not suited for homes with mobility concerns or very small children. TeddyBears are known for their affectionate, people-loving nature and fun, spunky personalities. Cameo fits that perfectly! He’ll need regular grooming and frequent brushing to keep his soft coat looking great. Preference will be given to homes with children (ages 6+) or a playful young dog. Cameo’s adoption fee is $550. He is current on age-appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and on monthly flea and heartworm prevention. He is not yet neutered due to age; a neuter contract is required, and Leia’s Hope will cover a portion of the cost if completed between 6–9 months. Leia’s Hope Canine Rescue is a volunteer-run, foster-based rescue. Applications take 7–10 business days to process. Approved application required before a meet and greet, which must include all family members (dogs included). We do not transport or allow cargo flights. Adopters must travel to the dog’s location for adoption. Dogs are a lifetime commitment — please be sure you’re ready to love Cameo for the next 12+ years.

*Applications at leiashope.org Honey Crisp 2-Month-Old Female Shih-Poo (Shih Tzu/Poodle Mix) 📍 Location: Troy, MO Meet Honey Crisp, a playful and affectionate Shih-Poo puppy learning what it means to be loved! Born in a puppy mill, she’s now thriving in foster care where she enjoys chasing her puppy friends, playing with toys, and curling up on soft blankets. Honey Crisp is a happy, confident little girl who loves to be underfoot—so she wouldn’t be ideal for someone with mobility concerns. She would do best in a home with playful children (ages 6+) or another young, active dog who can keep up with her energy and help her continue to learn and grow. About the Shih-Poo: The Shih-Poo blends the affectionate and gentle nature of the Shih Tzu with the intelligence and low-shedding coat of the Poodle. This mix produces friendly, loyal companions that love being near their people. Their coats require routine brushing and professional grooming every 6 weeks to keep them soft, clean, and mat-free. Vetting & Adoption Details: Adoption Fee: $550 Current on age-appropriate vaccines (subsequent boosters at adopter’s expense) Microchipped Vet-checked and healthy Not yet spayed — Leia’s Hope covers a portion of the spay cost when completed between 6–9 months of age Leia’s Hope is volunteer-run, and all dogs live in foster homes. Please allow 7–10 business days for application processing. Meet-and-greets are only scheduled with an approved application, and all family members (including dogs) must attend. Applicants must be willing to travel to the dog’s location for both the meet and adoption. We do not provide transportation and do not allow cargo flights. Honey Crisp is a young puppy, and her new family must be prepared to love and care for her for 12–15 years. In the event of the adopter’s death, she must be returned to Leia’s Hope — rehoming is not permitted.

Story
Shih Tzu 3yo- DOB 09/15/21 14lbs Spayed/Microchipped UTD on vaccinations Current on flea & heartworm prevention Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY. If you feel your family is a perfect match, please send an email to gateway4paws@gmail.com for additional information. Only complete & qualified applications will be considered/contacted. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive there for a meet and greet. We are a 100% foster-based rescue. Applications & FAQ about our adoption process can be found on our website. Summer came into our program as a breeder release, still pretty young. Her dad is also in our program & featured for adoption on our website, his name is Hershey! (Check him out, too! Wouldn't it be cool if they found a home together.) When Summer came into her foster home, she was a bit spicy. She was confused, she wasn't sure if this was a good thing or not. She was very timid & scared. Boy, has she really changed, she has flourished & bloomed! Once so scared, she willingly goes to her foster mom & seeks companionship & cuddles from her. She will do best in a calm, low activity home. A home that is willing to patiently allow her to adjust & get used to her forever environment. Going into a new home will be another change for Summer, but she is very brave & we know that she will successfully make the transition if given a chance. She will do best learning from other 4-legged siblings, we would like to see her find a home with some friends of similar size & energy level. She follows her foster siblings around, she likes to play with them very gently, no rough housing. She also enjoys chewing on bones & will keep herself content while doing so. In her foster home, she has proven to be 100% house trained. We are so proud of her. With that said, her new family must understand she could have a few accidents until she gets her new routine down. Please be prepared to give her ample opportunity for success, praise her when she does it right, & be patient with her. Summer does great wearing a harness. But that's it. She will wear the harness like a diamond necklace, but she refuses to walk on leash. We know that eventually she will have a breakthrough, but it is not right now! Therefore, for her safety (& for her to be able to do her potty business immediately upon adoption), a secure physical fence yard is required. An aluminum or slat type of fencing will need a gap filler around the bottom half so she can't get through, something like galvanized wire mesh or another sturdy mesh type material. She isn't an outdoor adventure dog; she doesn't need a big yard. But she does need a very secure area to do her potty business. Never EVER should she be left in the yard alone. If you don't have another dog, please consider adopting Hershey & Summer. They get along famously, they love each other! We look forward to matching Summer with her forever family soon!
