Patti is a 5-year-old Shih Tzu with a sweet but shy personality who will need time and patience to warm up. She came from a puppy mill and is just beginning to learn what life in a loving home is all about. Patti is not a snuggly lap girl but is very content to be close by her people getting pets and scratches on her terms. Patti has done well with her potty skills as long as she has a consistent routine. She walks fairly well on a leash and enjoys going out for short strolls around the neighborhood. Patti will need a calm adult only home with people who are gentle and allow her to move at her own pace. Another confident dog in the home to help her learn the ropes of “dogging” would be best for her. Patti loves to explore and sunbath in the great outdoors and will require a secure fenced yard so she can do this safely. With time, love, and understanding, Patti has all the potential to become a loyal and loving companion. Patti is spayed, up to date on all vaccines, had a dental, heart worm negative and on heartworm preventative, de-wormed, and microchipped. Patti’s adoption fee is $350.00. Zoey is a 5-year-old Shih-Tzu/Terrier mix. She is a social and sweet little girl. Zoey loves attention and seems to like the company of everyone. A house with adults and/or dog savvy kids ages eight and up would be fine for her. Zoey does well with other dogs and enjoys a game of chase with them in the yard, but does not like rough and tumble play. She also seems to do well with confident cats. She would probably not do well with smaller critters (guinea pigs, birds) as she wants to chase them. Zoey walks well on a leash and her potty training is going very well. She has some very endearing traits including smiling when she is happy and when she wants attention (seriously… she smiles) and she will watch the television and is very curious when she hears/sees a dog on the TV. Zoey is a little energetic during car rides (wanting to look out ALL the car windows) so a safety harness or crate would be best during car travel. She can be a bit vocal so apartment life would probably not be a good fit for her. While a home with a fenced yard would be wonderful, it is not a requirement as long as she gets regular walks and exercise. Mattie is doing wonderfully with her potty training and sleeps quietly through the night in her kennel. She loves playing with toys, especially small stuffed toys and Benebones, and enjoys spending time with her canine friends. She is still learning how to make friends with every dog she meets and would thrive in a home with a confident dog companion to help her build confidence and learn the household routine. Mattie is a calm, gentle girl who is non-destructive and easy to live with. While she hasn't been around children in her foster home, her sweet nature suggests she would likely do well with respectful, dog-savvy kids. King is a 8-year-old Shih Tzu who has been a beloved member of our family his entire life. We are looking for a caring home that can provide the extra love and attention a senior dog deserves.King is a calm, laid-back companion who enjoys a quiet environment. He is house-trained, independent, and tends to be more of a loner than a social butterfly. His favorite activities include relaxing indoors, taking leisurely walks, and sitting outside on sunny days.King has some skin issues that developed as a side effect of medication, so his coat is kept short to help keep him comfortable. He would do best with someone who appreciates a gentle, low-maintenance companion and can provide a peaceful home where he can enjoy his golden years.He is relaxed, well mannered, and can be won over with treats and rubs. However he can be stubborn so it is important to be stern with him. Due to pets not being allowed where I have moved to, I am seeking a loving caregiver for King.

I'm Jonesie. As you can see, I'm a handsome little fella. Only 14 lbs. I'm thought to be a Shorkie (Shih Tzu/Yorkie). I'm looking for a laid back home where I can be myself and thrive. I'm probably not the best for a home with small children or a lot of hustle and bustle, but for the right family - I'm a real catch. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets!
