Story
If you are looking for a high octane, energizer bunny who takes naps nestled up close to their person, then I'm your guy. Nelly's the name, being cute is the game. It's not vain to say I am the handsomest 2 year old, 7 lb, Shih Tzu you'll ever see -- Those are just the facts. While I am new to such things as "toys," I will say that I have mastered those things you call bully sticks, and I do love playing and carousing with my fellow foster pups. I love to run wild outside with my friends so a fenced yard is a MUST -- catch me if you can! Sure, I play hard, but what I want more than anything is a good lap snuggle, so if you need a lap dog, I'm your man. I'm a good boy and will make my nest in a crate at bedtime, but I would be more than happy to cozy up with my human if that's an option at bedtime. I'm a quick learner and doing quite well with potty training (I sleep through the night without incident, no problem). I'm still working on harnessing all my energy when it comes to leash walking, but I am an earnest student and as long as I have a stylish vest/harness to prance about in, I'll be good to go in no time. I'm just one rambunctious cuddler looking for my forever family. Due to my tiny stature I will not be placed in a home with young children. I’m up to date on all my shots, have had a dental, had a negative heartworm test and am on monthly preventative. I’m also neutered, dewormed and microchipped. Ready and waiting, folks. My adoption fee is $425.00. If you are interested after reading my bio, please fill out an application on AAP’s website

Story
I'm Kimmie! [Squirrel!!] Oh sorry. I got distracted for a moment. Yes, hello there. I'm a sweet and energetic 2 year old Shih Tzu who loves to be your bodyguard and watch your every movement [Squirrel!!]. As I was saying, I am an excellent kisser and am learning how to walk properly on a leash. AND I have a purple belt in going potty outside (I think that means I am doing pretty well). I would like a companion to help keep me focused...I do love to play. Sure, I can be shy at first with new folks, but I am a love bug at heart. A household without smaller children is best for me, and I WILL need a fenced-in yard given my [Squirrel!!]. You get the idea. Can't wait to meet you! Kimmie is spayed, up to date on all vaccines, heart worm negative and on heartworm preventative, de-wormed, had a dental, and microchipped. Bella’s adoption fee is $425.00. Story
Summer Breeze...makes me feel fine...blowing through the jasmine in my miiiiinnnd My foster mumsie sings that to me because she says I remind her of that song ....I'm like a warm Summer Breeze coming to bring you out of your winter woes. I make friends with all the dogs big and small, I like cats,I love kids, and I am gentle, wiggle butt of happiness all the time. My foster mumsie says another big bonus is that I'm like a shihtzu for someone on a budget... I have the cute squishy face and none of that long hair that has to be continuously groomed. Win-win! Summer is a wonderful little Shihtzu mix of some such. She is approx a year old and 14lbs grown. She is extremely easy, happy, and affectionate. She gets along with all of my dogs and fosters ,my cats, and the neighbor kids love her. They are at my door daily to see if she can come out and play. Summer recalls like a dream and doesn't run off if not on leash, but she also has great leash skills now. She is kennel trained and sleeps overnight in her kennel. She loves toys and to play, starting to learn fetch with little smaller 's. She is very gentle and would be perfect for a family even with small children. She is still working on her potty training, but is learning fast. She is maybe medium energy. While she does love to play and bounce around she also can just sit on your lap while watching a movie. Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)

Applications can be found on our website at gateway4paws.org Betsy was released to rescue because she wasn’t producing good litters for her breeder. She is really coming along since being in her foster home. She prefers her foster mom but still adjusting to accept her foster dad. She enjoys laying around and chewing on her bones or snuggling with her other foster brother, Hershey who is also available for adoption. She will do best learning from other 4 legged siblings so we would like to see her find a home with some siblings of similar size & energy level. Betsy has not had any accidents in her foster home for weeks but an new home needs to understand she could have accidents until she gets a new routine down. She is still not accepting of the harness and leash yet. We know she will get there but it is just not in the cards for her yet. Therefore for her safety, a secure physical fenced yard is a must. If you are looking for a quiet friend that will listen to you talk, with no judgement & no disagreement, Betsy is exactly what you are looking for! Betsy is an absolute doll, and she will make a fabulous roommate. We hope to find her a human friend that is interested in spending the day with Betsy watching & observing the world. Betsy isn’t a lap dog (yet) or an ‘adventure’ dog. She is a dog that is finally getting her chance to lounge around & be a dog!

Stitch/ Shih Tzu 2yo/ 13lbs Neutered/Microchipped UTD on vaccinations Current on flea/ tick/ heartworm prevention Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY, it will answer most of your questions. Applications can be found on our website at gateway4paws.org Stitch is settling in a home for the first time in his horrible, short, little life. We know people will ask, so, yes, Stitch was a breeder release. We won’t dwell on how awful that experience was, or how that breeder is allowed to continue to operate. We are just extremely thankful that he was allowed to come to us & has a chance to be happy & free. We will be looking for a home that is prepared to give him time & space to get comfortable. His foster mom sent this update to us: “Today marks one month he has been with us. He continues to learn how to be a dog. It's apparent that Stitch had very little human interaction before coming to us and what interaction he had does not seem to be good. He came to us extremely fearful of humans. If we came near him he would run, hide and poop, refusing to be touched by a human. If you could catch him to pick him up, he seized up & turned into stone. However, we work with him every single day and I'm glad to report he is showing progress (especially the last few days). We are now approaching him slowly. He retreats to a corner and lets us give him a few pets; we then gently pick him up from the corner. He loves his brothers & sisters. If they are around, he doesn't have a worry in the world. The first 3 weeks he was glued to the hip of our male dog Oscar (which we found interesting). This past week he's been playing with the girls quite a bit. You can run a vacuum cleaner right next to him, open & load the dishwasher, do laundry, sweep the broom right over his feet, and he doesn't care. He sleeps with us & is great in the big bed! He has a hearty appetite, loves treats, plays with toys from time to time, and has learned to use steps. We do use a belly band (he marks) but anytime he goes outside he does go to the bathroom. We tried walking him once, but he is not ready yet. I think in time that will come.” Stitch is a sweet boy that is just waiting to come out of his shell. We’ve seen it when he plays with the other dogs. So, to sum it up, here are the highlights. He will need a secure physically fenced yard, as he will need to immediately have a safe place to go potty. In time, his family can work on leash training, but it isn’t going to happen any time soon. He is a very good boy that doesn’t need to be crated & is always on his best behavior when his foster family is gone. They leave him in a pet-proofed area of the home until they return. Stitch needs a low-key family that will allow him to bloom. If his family has another furry friend of similar size, it would be a plus, but is not mandatory. He enjoys being able to be in the same room as his family at night, and really likes to sleep in the big bed. Napping on the couch is part of a normal routine day for him. Please apply if you have a nice slow-paced home for Stitch to join.
