Meet Ralphie. This poor little guy was found tied to a chain-link fence in Hartford, abandoned, absolutely terrified and riddled with fear. He ended up at the Hartford town pound where we pulled him. It took a long time for him to begin to start to come out of his shell. Now he is a happy, happy boy and wagging his tail and playing with toys. He gets along great with all the other dogs and does enjoy interacting with them. He is a snuggle bug as well. Ralph does have one issue with some resource guarding. We have been working on this with him and he’s come a long long way. He now will eat his dinner amongst all the other dogs with their bowls on the floor in the kitchen together. However, he can still become possessive of a special toy or his bed or something you drop on the floor that he happens to grab. Due to this resource guarding, we are saying no small children. But with love and patience and continue training, he’s going to make someone a great companion. Ralphie is approximately two years old, 11 pounds and male. We think he is a Shih Tzu mix. I'm neutered, Rabies shot, all sets of puppy shots, 4DX tested and negative, and had Proheart shot that is good for 6 months preventing heartworm disease. I've been to the vet on 09/10/2025, microchipped and ready to get on with my life in a forever home of my own. I'm housetrained and I'm crate trained. I am good with other dogs, big and small, and children, non reactive with cats. I'm very friendly and sweet. I'm a very loving boy. I will stick to you like velcro. I just need a loving family to complete my forever home. I was given up because my owner could not afford the surgery I needed. My front legs were deformed and one had to be amputated and the other one had 2 toes removed. When I run, you cannot tell I have only have 3 legs. He had been on the streets a long time by no fault of his own. Someone on a street in San Antonio knew him and his owner. His owner died and the family put poor ANDY on the streets. The neighbors felt sorry for him and would take turns feeding him. Once the winter got cold on a 26 degree night, a friendly neighbor put a sweater on him and allowed him to sleep in their gargage but that neighbor too tossed him back on the streets. Another neighbor could not stand it any longer and called me to take him in. It took 2 days to groom ANDY with the hard mounds of mats on him and he just sat there very quiet and patiently waiting to get all of the stuff off of him. Pictures are available. ANDY is 2 years old and 18 pounds and a great little guy. He really likes following me around but he is pretty independent, not a velcro dog although he does like to cuddle and be close to watch TV. He walks very well on a leash and does not get car sick and of course he still very well for a bath and to be groomed which he will need to be groomed about every 6-8 weeks.
