Story
Meet Rocky: Part Shih Tzu, Part Pogo Stick, Part Adventure Enthusiast Rocky is a 3-year-old Shih Tzu mix weighing about 12 pounds, and the best word to describe him is exuberant. This little guy approaches life with maximum enthusiasm, whether he's exploring the outdoors, greeting his favorite people, or attempting to launch himself into your arms for kisses. Rocky can jump an impressive 4–5 feet straight into the air. NBA scouts, take note! Rocky is an absolute lovebug who will happily flop over for belly rubs and soak up all the affection you can give. He also loves exploring and sniffing absolutely everything. A walk with Rocky isn't just a walk—it's an investigative mission. He would thrive with an active family that can provide daily walks, adventures, and plenty of opportunities to burn off his energy. Like many dogs, Rocky has two speeds. One minute he's a total ham, happily lounging in his crate or rolling over for belly rubs. The next, he's a full-blown Tasmanian devil, ready to zoom, bounce, and investigate the world at top speed. When he's in adventure mode, Rocky has a very strong prey drive, so he should not be left unattended outside, even in a securely fenced yard. Because of this, he is not a good fit for a home with cats or other small animals that he may be tempted to chase. Rocky has been a wonderful houseguest in foster care. He's happy to relax in his crate, appears to be crate trained, and does well when kept on a consistent routine, though he'll likely need continued guidance with housetraining. He'd also benefit from walking in a harness, as his excitement sometimes leads to enthusiastic leaps to the end of the leash. Toys haven't made much of an impression on Rocky, but he does have one prized possession—a beloved teddy bear that he faithfully sleeps with every night. It's almost too adorable for words. He's also a perfect gentleman at mealtime, patiently waiting by his bowl and taking treats with impeccable manners. Rocky can be a bit vocal, especially when people are coming and going or when it's almost mealtime. Because of his occasional barking, he may not be the best match for apartment or shared-wall living. Rocky has shown interest in other dogs and has the confident personality often seen in Shih Tzus. He would do best with experienced adopters who can provide thoughtful introductions to resident dogs. Because of his athleticism, enthusiasm, and joyful jumping, a home with older, dog-savvy children (7+) would be the best fit. If you're looking for a sweet, hilarious, energetic companion who will keep you laughing, keep you active, and fill your days with affection and adventure, Rocky is ready to bounce—literally—right into your heart.💙🐾 If you are interested in finding out more about Rocky, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRO/Dog Rocky is being fostered in Whitinsville, MA. The adoption fee is $500. Like Broken Tail Rescue on Facebook!. Follow Broken Tail Rescue on Instagram! Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.

I am part of the World Pup adoption fee waived event this weekend for dogs over 1 year old!If I am still posted on this website, interested adopters can meet me on: Saturday 7/25  between 12-3pm and Sunday between 12-3pm*All regular adoption requirements apply - each dog is an individual and has their own unique needs. Deanna has officially retired from her former career as a walking dust bunny and is looking for the right home! This sweet Shih Tzu mix arrived at WARL as a stray wearing a coat that could only be described as `one giant matt with a dog somewhere inside.` Thankfully, she received the spa day of a lifetime, complete with grooming, a much-needed dental, and a fresh start. (Yes, she had to be shaved. No, she isn`t holding a grudge.)Now that she`s feeling so much better, Deanna is ready for the good life: leisurely walks, cozy naps, kind people, and a family that understands regular grooming isn`t optional ,it`s part of the package.Deanna is a gentle, easygoing girl who would love a calm home where she can finally relax. She may do well with kid and dogs but they`ll need to meet her first before adoption. If you`re looking for a little dog with a big comeback story, Deanna is ready to turn the page. Deanna absolutely needs a home that can keep up with her grooming needs. We keep saying it - because this sweet pup`s grooming needs aren`t optional. If you are interested in adopting Deanna, and can provide her the exercise, grooming and care that she needs, please come to the shelter on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 12-4pm

Story
Meet Milo Too 🐾Milo Too is a 6-year-old, 20-pound Schnauzer/Shih Tzu mix who is adjusting to life in foster care after a major life change. .Milo has a moderate energy level and enjoys exploring a fenced yard and playing with squeaky toys. He is house-trained and does well in an exercise pen when unsupervised, as he is not a fan of crates.Milo lived with a retired couple and had limited exposure to children. He currently lives with small dogs but prefers human attention and may do best as an only dog. He also has a typical Schnauzer prey drive, so a cat-free home is recommended.Milo can be reactive to new people and activity, often barking at delivery people and becoming anxious on walks. He will need a patient adopter committed to helping him build confidence and improve leash manners through training.Ideal home: A quiet, suburban or rural home with a fenced yard and a calm, consistent routine.Milo is a sensitive, loyal companion who needs time, patience, and love to shine truly. 💛If you are interested in finding out more about Milo Too, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser:https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRO/DogMilo Too is being fostered in Central MassThe adoption fee is $500Like Broken Tail Rescue on Facebook!.Follow Broken Tail Rescue on Instagram!Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. Story
Meet Hercules Hercules is a sensitive, loyal dog who takes his time getting comfortable with new people. He isn’t a “love at first sight” kind of guy—he needs multiple meet-and-greets before feeling safe enough to go home—but once he trusts you, his bond is deep and devoted. With his person, Hercules truly shines. He loves going on walks (where there isn`t a lot of traffic walking past), playing with his toys, and winding down with some well-earned snuggles at the end of the day. He forms a strong attachment to one person and is happiest in a calm, predictable environment.Hercules would do best in a single-person household and cannot go to an apartment. He needs a home with more space and a stable environment. A home with no children living in or visiting is required. Because he bonds closely and can be protective, he needs an experienced, committed adopter who understands his needs. Continued professional dog behavior training would be a big benefit for him and will help set everyone up for success. If you’re patient, consistent, and looking for a deeply loyal companion, Hercules may be the perfect match for you

An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.

MEET TEDDY!*Would benefit from a confident social dog of similar size in his new homeTeddy is an adorable small breed puppy. He is fearful of new people and places, so it will be important for his new family to give him the time and space that he needs to get comfortable with them. Once he has decided that you are his friend, he is a very sweet guy. Here in the shelter, we found that having a friendly, social dog of similar size helps significantly with his confidence, so he would enjoy having a canine companion in his new home. He is still working on things like housetraining and basic obedience. He would do best in a home with adults and teens only in a quiet area. If you are interested in meeting Teddy, stop by our Dedham shelter! My friends describe me as: Dog social, sensitiveTeddy is currently up to date on all vaccinations, has been spayed/neutered, microchipped and seen by our vet team.We welcome adopters from NH, RI, CT, and NY however, we are unable to facilitate same day adoptions due to state regulated paperwork requirements. For more information on this or any other animal currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston please visit us during our adoption center hours: Wednesdays-Sundays from 1:00PM – 6:00PM, Tuesdays by appointment only from 1:00PM – 6:00PM, closed Mondays & Holidays. For information about our adoption process click here
