If you are looking for a companion lap dog, look no farther. Introducing Eleanor, she's a 12 lb. 8-year-old Shih Tzu. Eleanor was recently returned to Needy Paws Rescue because her mama had to go into a nursing home and couldn't take Eleanor with her. Eleanor is a precious little girl that loves her food, being brushed but not a fan of getting her eyes cleaned or nail trimmed. Eleanor is crate trained housebroken, walks beautifully on a leash. Eleanor prefers women and tolerates men but shy's away from them she WOULDN'T do good with small children. Eleanor barks at strangers but will warm up if given time Eleanor was a breeder release dog which means she is shy and skittish. The best home for Eleanor will be a women only home and a small companion dog, a fenced yard unless taken out on a leash to potty. No small children please. Eleanor will be available for adoption after the 3rd of December. Her foster mom will be very choosy as to who adopts Eleanor. If you are interested, complete the Adoption Application on our website at www.NeedyPaws.org and we will contact you. Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Eleanor’s adoption fee is $295.00, which includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip. 3/20/25 Roberta is a very sweet girl that prefers to snooze in her crate. Roberta gets along with all the other dogs here, whether they are small or large. Roberta needs a fenced yard as she does not know how to walk on a leash. She is due for a dental next month, and we will also have the vet do a good physical on her at that time. 10/23/24 We can't believe Roberta is still here. Someone, PLEASE give her a home of her own! Roberta is a 9 year old gold and white Shih Tzu weighing about 11 pounds. She came to us a year ago, and she likes to think she's in charge. This girlie loves to be out in the back fenced yard, monitoring the other dogs and the neighborhood. She likes to find a sunny spot to catch some sun, then moves to a cool spot to enjoy the breeze. She's still working on her house training and relaxing around people. Roberta gets along with the other dogs here and sleeps quietly in her crate at night. UPDATE - 10/14/25 /Roberta recently had her vaccinations updated and at her visit the vet told us to continue waiting on doing a dental. She had lost a couple of her bad teeth, and the vet said at this age, she'd prefer to not do a dental on her as her tarter is not a concern at this time. Her sight is dimming, but there is nothing our vet thinks is a concern with her aging. She's a sweet girl that really wants little from her humans other than trips out to potty, 2 meals a day, and a treat at bedtime. She prefers to spend her time in her bed with little attention from her humans as many former breeder dogs do.

We have the Three Amigos who joined our rescue a few months ago. They were found covered in ticks and abandoned in the woods. Their initial vetting has been completed. We have DNA tested them, and Steve, Chevy, and Martin are brothers - mainly a mix of Shih Tzu, Chihuahua, and Bichon Frise. They really would enjoy either a house with a young dog that likes to run and play, or the best option would be that they were adopted together. But we know that is asking a lot. These boys sleep quietly in their crates at night and are learning to accept human attention, settling in for a short time on your lap. They have LOTS of ENERGY and need a securely fenced area to run and chase and play. We have not walked them on a leash, so a fenced yard is a must. They are waiting for their Person to see them and give them a home.
