10/23/24 We can't believe Roberta is still here. Someone, PLEASE give her a home of her own! Roberta is a 9 year old gold and white Shih Tzu weighing about 11 pounds. She came to us a year ago, and she likes to think she's in charge. This girlie loves to be out in the back fenced yard, monitoring the other dogs and the neighborhood. She likes to find a sunny spot to catch some sun, then moves to a cool spot to enjoy the breeze. She's still working on her house training and relaxing around people. Roberta gets along with the other dogs here and sleeps quietly in her crate at night. She needs her own family that can help her learn all the secrets of being a family member in a home. If you are looking for a high octane, energizer bunny who takes naps nestled up close to their person, then I'm your guy. Nelly's the name, being cute is the game. It's not vain to say I am the handsomest 2 year old, 7 lb, Shih Tzu you'll ever see -- Those are just the facts. While I am new to such things as "toys," I will say that I have mastered those things you call bully sticks, and I do love playing and carousing with my fellow foster pups. I love to run wild outside with my friends so a fenced yard is a MUST -- catch me if you can! Sure, I play hard, but what I want more than anything is a good lap snuggle, so if you need a lap dog, I'm your man. I'm a good boy and will make my nest in a crate at bedtime, but I would be more than happy to cozy up with my human if that's an option at bedtime. I'm a quick learner and doing quite well with potty training (I sleep through the night without incident, no problem). I'm still working on harnessing all my energy when it comes to leash walking, but I am an earnest student and as long as I have a stylish vest/harness to prance about in, I'll be good to go in no time. I'm just one rambunctious cuddler looking for my forever family. Due to my tiny stature I will not be placed in a home with young children. I’m up to date on all my shots, have had a dental, had a negative heartworm test and am on monthly preventative. I’m also neutered, dewormed and microchipped. Ready and waiting, folks. I'm Kimmie! [Squirrel!!] Oh sorry. I got distracted for a moment. Yes, hello there. I'm a sweet and energetic 2 year old Shih Tzu who loves to be your bodyguard and watch your every movement [Squirrel!!]. As I was saying, I am an excellent kisser and am learning how to walk properly on a leash. AND I have a purple belt in going potty outside (I think that means I am doing pretty well). I would like a companion to help keep me focused...I do love to play. Sure, I can be shy at first with new folks, but I am a love bug at heart. LOCATED IN TROY, MO Saphire is a spicy little Shihtzu that can hold her own when the bigger puppies get a little rough! She has a beautiful coat with colors of lighter and darker brown and some black. Those colors will change as she ages. Saphire is a happy girl and loves everyone and everything! She loves to play and we would like to see her placed with a family that has kids or a dog that is young and playful! Saphire also loves people and likes to get under their feet making her a trip hazard for anyone with mobility problems. Saphire was treated for Giardia, a common parasite found in puppy mills. She has finished her treatment and her stools should be retested in 30 days. Saphire's adoption is $500. She is current on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped and on monthly flea and heart worm prevention. Due to her young age she has not been spayed. A spay contract will be required. The spay is covered if using our vet in Troy, MO. Visit leiashope.org for next steps! PLEASE NOTE: We are a volunteer ran rescue with full time jobs. Please allow 7-10 days for application processing. All of our dogs are in foster homes and a meet and greet is done ONLY after an approved application. We do adopt out of the area. However, we do not ship or provide transportation. You must come to the location of the dog to meet and adopt. NO EXCEPTION. All family members and dogs must be present at the meet. Dogs are a commitment for THEIR lifetime. For puppies this could be 15 years. If YOU cannot commit to the lifetime of the DOG, please do not apply. Puppies under 9 months must go to a home where there is someone home frequently (works from home or a partner is home), can adequately socialize and train the puppy, and can keep up with puppy energy!
