For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs.   It doesn’t stop there! Meet Wookie, the adorable, spirited 2-year-old Shih Tzu mix who’s guaranteed to bring joy into any home! With his playful, confident personality, Wookie might be small in size, but he’s a giant in heart. While we can't pinpoint his exact mix, we think there might be some Boston Terrier and Poodle in his genes, given his lively demeanor and curiosity. Wookie is super friendly with people, especially kids, and has no problem meeting new faces. He's equally excited to meet cats and, though he’s full of energy, he could likely live happily with them, as long as they're tolerant of his playful nature. As for other dogs? He loves them! Wookie thrives on interaction and is always ready to entertain or be entertained by his companions. Car rides are one of his favorite activities—Wookie will happily snuggle into your lap, perched at the window, eager to watch the world go by. He might pull a bit on the leash, but his small size makes him easy to manage. His coat is a bit coarse and sheds a little, but it’s nothing too overwhelming. Cooper was my mom's beloved dog. After losing her last year, and then my father later in the year, we've been doing our best to find Cooper a new home within the family. Unfortunately, it's been difficult as many already have dogs, and for others, the time and energy he needs just isn't possible. Cooper is nearly 13 but still very active. He loves being close to people and thrives on companionship. He will happily follow you around the house and wants to be part of whatever you're doing. He enjoys walks and playing fetch or tug with his favorite toy. He would make a wonderful companion for someone who can give him the attention he craves. He will come with everything he needs: a dog bed, lounging mat, blanket, toys, walking harness/leash, grooming gloves, fenced pen and food. We're hoping to find him a loving home where he can spend his golden years surrounded by care and companionship.
