Heidi Foster/Home Needed – Albany, NY This gentle giant is Heidi. She is a beautiful 8yr old female Saint, now weighing a healthy 105lbs. Heidi first came to us as a stray, and she was very malnourished ☹ Now she loves to eat and she’s flourishing! She is just the sweetest girl. Everyone who meets her absolutely adores her 💗 Heidi loves to be loved….especially belly rubs, those are her favorite….but she would do best as the only dog in a quiet home. She is very good on a leash and loves car rides. Heidi is spayed, chipped and completely house broken. Story
Archie has been with us all his life since adopted at 4 months old. He is loyal and loving. He is a low energy comfort dog that loves being where ever you are. He sleeps most of the day, and is bored. He needs someone who will play w/him, go for a car ride, take him for a nice walk or have a yard. He doesn’t get on the sofa unless invited and then he just wants to put his head on your lap. He’s house/crate trained. Toys/crate will go w/him. He is not able to go to the dog park - too much stimulation but with the right owner who can help with training that can change. He’s about 75-80 lbs. VERY SMART knows commands. Been around children as young as 4 without issue. They love him. He has not had much experience around other dogs or cats at all. When walking outside people are reluctant to have their dogs near him due to his size so he has been limited in long walks/dog park. Newly married, husband is terrified of all dogs due to childhood trauma so I have to rehome before I move in.

Story
Olympia - 4 years, 85lbs, St. Bernard/Pyr Mix, Spayed  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Her Foster Sad Says: "Helga’s one of the chillest dog I’ve ever fostered. She’s a home girl that loves lounging on the couch and napping, meeting other dogs, meeting other people, enjoys getting outside to smell the smells, and even likes hanging at a bar (where she can get alllll the head scratches from strangers). She’s perfectly potty trained and respectful of your stuff at home, and just fine on her own if you need to dip out for a few hours. Careful leaving pizza out though, that’s her favorite human food to steal . Despite her old soul energy we think she’s only around 4, so you’ll get plenty of years with her relaxed demeanor." Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy levelMEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Potty trained?Yes - no accidents. Pefect pup.  Social with other dogs?Yes - so good with other dogs  Social with cats? Not sure yet! Some breed mixes that are generally NOT great matches for homes with cats include large hounds, huskies, and shepherds.  Comfortable with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)Yes - okay with kids. Super gentle dog.  Okay in the city?Yup - has zero issues with living in the city. Very comfortable here.  Seperation Anxiety?Nope - fine being left home alone  Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Puerto Rico or Southern California. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. If you’ve ever dreamed of sharing your life with dogs that hail from the breathtaking valleys of the Swiss Alps, Bear and Bunny might just be the companions for you! These two gentle giants, with a lineage traced back to the famous St. Bernard rescue dogs of the Great St. Bernard Pass, are looking for a family that understands their special needs. They are just a year old. **Bear** is a handsome male with the strength and bravery of his St. Bernard ancestors. True to his name, Bear can be a little intolerant of other male dogs, and while we hope neutering and proper socialization will help, his ideal home would be one where he’s the only male dog. Bear has been trained to wear a basket muzzle when needed, and while he’s lovable and incredibly loyal, potential adopters should be prepared for ongoing socialization work. If you’re okay with the possibility that Bear may always need to live without another male dog, then you’ll have a devoted, giant-hearted companion by your side. **Bunny** is Bear’s sweet counterpart, and while she’s equally lovable, she too is still learning how to interact peacefully with other dogs. Both Bear and Bunny have been trained to wear basket muzzles, and though they’re perfect in so many ways, we’re not yet ready to trust them in a home with other dogs **without close supervision and frequent intervention to manage interactions**. Both Bear and Bunny are **intelligent, quick learners** who know basic commands like **sit, down, and off**. They also **walk beautifully on a leash**, making them a joy to take on long walks or hikes. With the right guidance, their intelligence and willingness to learn will make further training both rewarding and fun. **They are available for adoption together or individually**, so whether you’re looking for a dynamic duo or a solo St. Bernard to love, you can bring one (or both!) of these majestic dogs into your home. If you have the space, patience, and experience to guide these beautiful, gentle souls, they’ll reward you with boundless love, loyalty, and the companionship only a St. Bernard can offer. Don’t let their imposing size fool you – Bear and Bunny are all about affection and will melt into your heart with every snuggle. **Please Note**: Bear and Bunny will do best in a home without other dogs for now, and Bear may not ever be suited to living with another male dog. If you’re up for the challenge and reward of helping these giants continue their journey to becoming well-socialized family members, we’d love to hear from you!&#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143&#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143 Adoption Application here: https://form.jotform.com/10941043786November 4, 2024, 12:04 am
