Sponsored Adoption - NBC Clear the Shelter Event - August 1st thru August 31stBio UPDATE: after several months in a foster home, Opie is doing fantastic! He is loving, sweet, fun, and a goofball with a heart of gold! His favorite things are walks (before it gets too hot…not a fan of the heat (must be the St. Bernard!)) and playing with other dogs of all sizes. He is housetrained and crate-trained. Original info below is still accurate. Opie needs patience and time to be himself. A fenced yard and at least one other balanced dog in the household are musts. But the reward in watching this sweet boy grow and being able to develop a bond with him is priceless and a privilege. With new people and new environments, he does take his time but now you can literally see his curiosity and that he wants to be included. He recently stayed with another foster while his foster family went out of town, and he came out of his shell much quicker and easier than when he first left the shelter. That foster mom says of Opie he is a “gentle giant” (giant is a relative term though…he is around 50 pounds, which to his foster family is not giant at all ??) and that she loved watching him gallop across her yard and skip like a pony with his long, lanky legs trying to engage her little dog in play. Opie is a joy and the only reason his foster family has not adopted him is it would inhibit their ability to take on more fosters. He is very loved and, if given a chance, very loving.I AM CURRENTLY IN FOSTER!Hi, I’m Orpheus — but my foster family calls me Opie.I’m a sweet, gentle boy with a soft heart and a story that’s still unfolding. While I can be a little shy when meeting new people, I’ve been making beautiful progress in my foster home every day.I absolutely love other dogs — especially my foster sister, who helps me feel safe and brings out my playful side. Having a confident canine friend in my forever home will be really important for helping me continue to grow. With the people I trust, I’m becoming more and more affectionate. I now seek out my foster mom for comfort and companionship, and those quiet moments together are my favorite. I’m also fully housebroken and have been doing great on my leashed walks — I really enjoy getting out and exploring the world at my own pace.I can still be sensitive to new environments, loud noises, or too much going on at once, so I’ll need a calm, patient home that understands I may take a little t

Story
Meet Harvey! 🐾 This handsome boy arrived at the shelter as a lost dog on 8/9, and he’s hoping his forever family comes looking for him—or finds him soon! Volunteers describe Harvey as a very good boy with a beautiful, silky-soft coat. He walks wonderfully on leash, loves treats, and is quiet and well-behaved in his kennel. His favorite part of the day is getting outside for a walk, and we can’t wait to see him enjoying those walks with his forever family!

Meet Sadie Mae — Georgias Most Popular Girl! Age: 2 years old Weight: 75 pounds Breed: Anatolian Shepherd Dog Friendly: Yes — big and small! Meet Sadie Mae, a gorgeous 2-year-old Anatolian Shepherd with a huge heart, a loyal spirit, and a personality that has made her quite possibly the most popular dog in Georgia! Sadie Mae is one of those special dogs people simply fall in love with. Shes incredibly loving, loyal, and devoted to her people, and she has that wonderful protective nature Anatolian Shepherds are known for. She takes pride in watching over her home and property and letting you know shes there. But when shes off duty, Sadie Mae knows how to have fun! She absolutely loves playing outside in the yard, especially when she has a canine friend to share the fun with. She does wonderfully with other dogs, both big and small, and one of her very best buddies is Anastasia. Watching the two of them play together is enough to put a smile on anyones face. Sadie Mae also enjoys getting out for a nice long walk, and afterward shes perfectly happy settling down and relaxing with her person. Shes affectionate and loves being close to the people she trusts. Car rides may not be at the very top of her favorite-things list, but being with her people certainly is. Wonderful with dogs — big and small Loves playing outside in the yard Enjoys long walks Extremely loving and loyal Naturally protective of her home and property Anastasia is one of her favorite buddies A beautiful girl with an unforgettable personality At 75 pounds, Sadie Mae is a big, beautiful girl with an equally big heart. She would love a home where she has room to enjoy the outdoors and a family who appreciates the loyalty, companionship, and protective nature of an Anatolian Shepherd. Sadie Mae has spent enough time waiting. Shes made friends, won hearts, and become a favorite of just about everyone who knows her. But what this popular Georgia girl really needs isnt another fan — she needs a family. Somewhere out there is the person Sadie Mae will look at and know, This is my person. This is my home. Could that person be you? Come meet Sadie Mae and discover why everyone who knows her loves her.
