Story
Trixie is an older dog with a very loving personality. She is very calm and loves to be petted and given lots of affection. She loves her walks also and does them like a pro. Given her somewhat rugged appearance you would think she is not a friendly dog but on the contrary, she is the perfect dog with a very balanced personality. Trixie is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. She was abandoned by her owner and FHSTJ rescued her and had her spayed because she kept having puppies. When we tried to return her to her owner he said he did not want her anymore. Trixie has a lot of love to give and longs for a family who can provide her with the affection and attention she craves. She deserves a warm and loving home where she can feel cherished as a member of the family!!

Story
Meet Pita! This adorable girl was discovered as a stray near a vet's office in Mexico. Her rescuers brought her to El Centro to help her adjust to a home setting. Our rescue was asked to assist in getting her to San Diego to find her forever family. Pita weighs about 40 lbs and is just 9 months old. At such a tender age, she still has the potential to blossom into a confident and joyful pup. Pita is a sweet yet very timid girl. She is still getting used to new surroundings and requires some extra love and patience to help her feel completely secure in a new environment. She adores people and prefers dogs of a similar size. She is crate trained and sleeps soundly through the night in her crate. She is not destructive and enjoys her toys. She has established a potty routine and needs to feel safe to be able to relieve herself in a yard space. When she feels at ease, she is very motivated by treats. She loves children, but the hustle and bustle of kids in a home can sometimes prevent her from fully relaxing in a new environment. She would likely thrive in a home with teenagers who can provide her the space and time to unwind while still showering her with the love and attention she deserves. She is a true velcro pup once she feels at home with you. Pita has been addressing her insecurities by participating in group training classes that expose her to new sounds, smells, and canine companions. If you have lots of patience and love to give, Pita can be your girl!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Karma found her way to Its the Pits in April 2023 after a good Samaritan found her in need of emergency medical care, abandoned in a crate on the side of the road. Karma is now in great health, and as one of our longest rescue residents, we’d love to find her perfect person or family match in a forever home. Karma is small and sturdy and pretty active around the house and would need a home with a yard. Her tail never stops wagging when she’s prancing around, and foster Mom says she’s the happiest pup on the planet!! Karma love-love-loooves her toys, balls are an absolute favorite, and if you're up for watching movies in the evenings, she’s happy to sit on the sofa and join you! Karma is not real confident around new things, so a busy household is not her thing. She requires a patient owner to help reassure her and continue to build on the progress we’ve made over the last few years. Walks in busy neighborhoods can be overwhelming, so a quiet home with a yard and with someone who has prior experience with shy dogs would be a bonus! Once Karma is encouraged in a positive way, and something becomes familiar, she does great! Karma would do best in a home, with someone who is also a bit of a homebody and not gone for long periods during the day. Karma is crate trained, house broken (she’s never had an accident in her foster home). Karma sits for treats – and has a great eye to catch a treat with a gentle toss. When it’s time to call it a night, Karma will happily trot to the bedroom and enjoy sleeping in your bed if you’ll let her. She sleeps quietly through the night, not making a peep or stirring at all. Karma has some dietary considerations and would love to find a home who understands a raw-feeding plan, or is willing to spend the time researching and/or being educated on a raw food diet.    Please consider sponsoring Karma with either a one-time or monthly tax-deductible donation. Your donation will help It's The Pits with day-to-day care, including food, vaccinations, flea treatment, treats and toys. Click on the Sponsor This Pet link above to make your donation today. Story
How this pet arrived: Diesel was brought in by a community member on September 2, 2025. Why this pet is the one for you:Diesel is fully fueled and ready to roll! This high-octane guy may idle a little loudly when the world gets busy, but once he warms up, he runs on premium snuggles and steady companionship. With his trusted humans, Diesel is all about that close-contact cruising. He's a professional leaner (zero concept of "lane boundaries"), an expert co-pilot on the couch, and a firm believer that every good day should end in a full-service cuddle session. When things are quiet, he's happiest parked right by your side, tank filled with affection. During his time at the shelter, Diesel has been tuning up beautifully. He's learning how to idle calmly in his space and is showing more relaxed, friendly vibes with his pit crew. What he needs now is a patient driver who can help him keep building confidence, maintain a steady pace, and enjoy the scenic route together. His love tank? Overflowing. His loyalty? Built for the long haul. Ready to start your engine with Diesel and hit the road home? At SDHS:Diesel has been vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. Diesel is now ready for his new home! Primary Color: Brindle Weight: 47.8 Age: 8yrs 2mths 2wks
