Story
Meet Tiger, an energetic Staffy mix pup with a zest for life! Rescued along with his brother when they were just 7 weeks old, Tiger was found as a stray before being brought to the shelter. His brother has been adopted and Tiger is still looking for his forever home. Tiger is great with other dogs and thrives in a playful environment. He loves to play hard and has had some basic training, making him a fun and active companion. However, he’s not a fan of cats and would do best in a home without them. Tiger would be the perfect addition to a family with another active and playful dog or an active household that can keep up with his boundless energy. If you’re looking for a spirited and affectionate pup to join your family, Tiger might just be your new best friend!

Story
Meet Salome, a vibrant and affectionate dog who’s ready to find her forever home. Salome is great with people and has a loving personality, but she’s very reactive to other dogs, so she would thrive in a home where she’s the only pet. Salome is house-trained and has no medical concerns. She was found as a stray and is now looking for a new family who can provide her with the love and care she deserves. She’s an adventurous spirit who loves exploring, going for walks, and hitting the trails for hikes. If you’re seeking a loyal and playful companion who will thrive in a dog-free environment, Salome is eager to share her zest for life and become a cherished part of your family.

Story
Previously known as Shaylee, this beautiful girl has been through some changes lately. They say what goes around comes around, and in this case, it’s a whole lot of love! Meet Karma, a very sweet girl with a heart even bigger than her waistline. Karma is currently a "full-figured" lady, but she’s ready to start her fitness journey with a partner who loves to walk as much as they love to cuddle. Karma doesn't let her extra curves slow down her spirit. She is a social, happy soul who believes that life is meant to be enjoyed—preferably with a slow stroll through the park and a lot of belly rubs.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##1768346##

Story
😓 meet George. He is 7, neutered. He has been through Colorado prison dog training program (which includes unlimited refresher trainings for any new owner). He has been my little buddy for all 7 years. However, he is reactive to new dogs. The other dogs that are in the photos he's been with since he was a baby. He needs a home where he is an only dog. He is the absolute best dog, when it's only him. He is absolutely great with people he's the biggest cuddle buddy. The reason for this post is that we have merged households and he is not tolerant of the new pack members. He is crate trained, but will try to be in bed with you every night. He loves car rides. He is very well leash trained. Hugely food motivated. He is laying on my chest as I type this 😭. Please help.

Story
This dog is a courtesy listing and not one of our dogs. Please contact the email listed in this post. For more information, please contact ADOPTBENNY@gmail.com   BENNY is a 5yr (ish) old, 65lbs Staffordshire Terrier. He’s spayed and up to date on his initial vaccines. He came from a difficult, neglectful situation on the streets so would do well with someone with some experience with big dogs. He enjoys the simple things — long naps after meals, slow walks, a cozy spot to settle in with the occasional funny grumble or dramatic sigh to remind you of his big personality. He’s only been with us for a couple of days and has already grown more affectionate and playful, he’ll clearly continue to open up as he settles into a home. He’s smart - he was on his hind legs turning the doorknob at our vet check room today(!). He can be stubborn on walks; he sometimes PLANTS himself when he doesn’t want to go in a certain direction, so he’ll need loving, kind, patient new owners :). He’s house-trained and adjusting really well to indoor life. He’ll benefit from continued basic training and routine structure, but he learns quickly. We haven’t tested him with other dogs or kids yet so we can’t speak to this. He’s stimulated when he sees dogs on walks but he seems more like he wants to play than attack. After everything he’s been through, Benny deserves a home that sees what a good, steady dog he already is — and will give him the consistency and care to fully exhale and belong.
