Story
Hello, I'm Chatter! A name that suits me to a T, because I love to chat. I'm a sweet, friendly, curious, funny, and smart pooch. I can be a tempermental guy, but it's all part of my charm. I'm not just a one-note dog, I've got layers! Sure, I might grumble a bit when I don't get my way, but a few scratches behind the ear and I'm all smiles again. I'm looking for a family that can match my energy and love me, temper and all. So, why should you adopt me? Well, with me, life will never be dull. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. No need to call to find out about me, you can ask questions on the application or email questions to info@polkcountyhumanesociety.org. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas twice a month. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veteinarian ($35). Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! ##2017631##

Meet Salome, a vibrant and affectionate dog who’s ready to find her forever home. Salome is great with people and has a loving personality, but she’s very reactive to other dogs, so she would thrive in a home where she’s the only pet. Salome is house-trained and has no medical concerns. She was found as a stray and is now looking for a new family who can provide her with the love and care she deserves. She’s an adventurous spirit who loves exploring, going for walks, and hitting the trails for hikes. If you’re seeking a loyal and playful companion who will thrive in a dog-free environment, Salome is eager to share her zest for life and become a cherished part of your family.

Story
Meet Tiger, an energetic 8-month-old Staffy mix pup with a zest for life! Rescued along with his brother when they were just 7 weeks old, Tiger was found as a stray before being brought to the shelter. Tiger is great with other dogs and thrives in a playful environment. He loves to play hard and has had some basic training, making him a fun and active companion. However, he’s not a fan of cats and would do best in a home without them. Tiger would be the perfect addition to a family with another active and playful dog or an active household that can keep up with his boundless energy. If you’re looking for a spirited and affectionate pup to join your family, Tiger might just be your new best friend!

Story
This is Spike, spike is almost 2 years, we had acquired spike in 2023, in march. He is the sweetest with people, he like to cuddle, he loves playing with all types of puppy toys and is great at not destroying his toys. He is a very sweet and good boy but he needs guidance and training. He’s very loyal and will listen and follow his basic commands. What we need for spike is someone willing to give him the time and training he deserves/needs. He has shown some slight aggression with small triggers, but if those triggers are no where in sight he’s the most loving and supportive and kind dog. The reason we are rehoming, is spike has had aggressive behaviors towards the other male dog in the house, and our family is worried and scared he’ll snap at any moment towards the female dog. He’s a loving and kind dog just needs time and attention, we’re in the process of moving and we just don’t have the resources to send him to a boarding or rehabilitation program. He needs someone with time.
