Story
Hello! My name is Boomer, I was found outside the shelter in a crate early one morning. It was a really rough night—I had been left there for 16 hours during a thunderstorm. Thankfully, one of the shelter staff found me, and I got the help I needed. I’ve been getting lots of love ever since! After my rescue, the humans at the shelter noticed I was in some pain, so they took me to the vet. The vet found out I have severe hip dysplasia, and there’s also a possibility I have something called Intervertebral Disc Disease in my spine. I may need medical care in the future, and anyone who wants to adopt me needs to know about that and be prepared for it. But don’t let that fool you—I’m still a happy, goofy boy who loves to play and cuddle! My pain doesn't stop me from being my sweet, loving self. Here’s a little about me if you’re wondering what I'm like: -I love people—I’m a total attention hog and I can’t get enough of being with my humans. -I’m a couch potato and a cuddle bug, so if you like to relax on the couch, I’ll happily join you. -I’m a quick learner, smart, and food motivated—so training is easy for me (but I’ll need some work on my leash manners!). - I’ve got a velcro dog personality. I’ll be by your side, always! -I’d do best in a quiet home with older children only, and I’d prefer to be the only dog in the house. I really like to have all the attention to myself. -I’m mellow and laid back but still love to be playful and goofy when the mood strikes. A good fit for an experienced household, I’m really looking for someone who understands my needs. -I also do really well in the car and love going on little adventures with my favorite humans. While my hips and spine might be a challenge, they don’t stop me from being the sweetheart I am. I can’t wait to find a home where I can be loved, pampered, and given all the attention I crave! If you think you can be the one for me, let’s meet! I may need a few visits to make sure we’re a perfect match, but I promise I’ll make it worth your while. Story
URGENT: Help Drago (Now Barkley) Get the Healing He Desperately Needs   Drago’s journey has been a rollercoaster of hope, heartbreak, and resilience. He came to us from a kill shelter on Christmas Eve, fighting pneumonia. We were his only chance—and we answered the call when a foster stepped up.   But things didn’t go as planned. His first foster couldn’t keep him. The second… changed him. The sweet, untrained boy we pulled was no longer the same. Still, Drago showed promise. He thrived in home boarding with other dogs. Then, he found a loving family and was adopted. One month later—his longest placement ever—his trauma began to surface. Drago does have food guarding.   He’s scared, unsure, and lacks confidence. He hasn’t been taught the basic skills he needs to navigate the world. He desperately wants love but doesn’t know how to ask for it. Together with his current foster family, we’re searching for a new foster home that can provide the stability and support Drago needs to heal and grow.   What Drago Needs in a Foster:  • Experience with pit bulls and reactive/fearful dogs  • A fully fenced-in yard  • A quiet home in a calm neighborhood  • Not located on a busy street (he has too many noise and movement triggers)  • Patience, consistency, and willingness to follow training and rescue protocols  • Ongoing communication with the rescue  • A supportive household ready to help Drago work through his fears at his own pace   Drago is not aggressive—he is fearful. He has triggers because he’s never been shown how to feel safe. He didn’t deserve what happened to him, and we refuse to give up on him.   Are you the one who can help Drago find peace and confidence? Apply to foster or foster-to-adopt today at: www.affrescue.com   Let’s give Drago the second chance he truly deserves.May 3, 2025, 3:57 pm
