Story
Hi there! I’m Melina, an 8-month-old, 32-pound Poodle/Terrier mix with a gentle heart, a sweet soul and a whole world I’m just beginning to discover. You see, my life hasn’t been what a puppy’s life should be. Instead of exploring the world, playing with toys and learning all the wonderful things that come with being a dog, I spent my entire life confined to a crate. I missed out on so many experiences that other puppies take for granted and now I’m trying to figure out a world that feels very big and unfamiliar. I’m a sweet girl who just needs someone to show me that life can be wonderful. I may not know how to do all the things other puppies do just yet, but I have so much potential and a whole lifetime ahead of me to learn! I have a nice medium energy level, but I’m still learning how to be a dog. I don’t have any leash skills yet, so I’ll need someone willing to start from the beginning with me. New experiences can feel overwhelming and I’ll need time to get comfortable in my new surroundings before my true personality can shine. I’ll require a home with another friendly, confident dog who can help teach me the things I never had a chance to learn. Having a canine companion to follow, play with and learn from will be incredibly important for my confidence and development. I’m also going to need a family with plenty of patience, understanding and a willingness to celebrate the little victories along the way. My first walk, my first carefree play session or even the first time I feel brave enough to explore something new might seem like small things to some people, but to me, they’ll mean everything. I don’t need someone who expects me to be a perfect puppy. I need someone who will help me discover what being a happy, loved dog is supposed to feel like. I’m dog friendly, people friendly once I feel comfortable and can be cat tested upon request! I’ll come fully vetted for my age, spayed, microchipped and up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives. My adoption also includes one month of FREE pet insurance plus a Fi Nano Mini GPS tracker with six months of tracking service! I know I’m going to need more patience and guidance than some other puppies, but I hope someone will see the beautiful little girl I can become. I’ve spent my whole life watching the world from inside a crate and now I’m finally getting my chance to experience it. I don’t want to spend another day just existing. I want to run, play, explore and discover what it feels like to truly live. Could you be the family who teaches me that the world is a beautiful place and that I’ll never have to face it alone again? If interested, please DO NOT submit an inquiry through AdoptaPet. Fill out the application at the link below. https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/63adcb00cb896f59b74103d2/6adfa5f6de179eb2570b435b

We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 100-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 animal that you are interested in.-Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other options. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Story
Daphne is a 1 year old parti-colored standard poodle who is looking for her forever home. She is the best girl! Loving and sweet and very willing to please! She is potty trained and is starting to use the doggy door. She likes to play when she is outside and needs to be reminded to potty before going in. She is kennel trained and sleeps through the night. She loves other dogs, so another active doggy companion would be a plus for her. She needs a fenced in yard as well because she loves to run. She rides well in the car. Her leash manners could use a little work, but she is a quick learner and catches on fast. She is a bit of a jumper when she first starts walking an needs a couple of minutes to settle down. She loves to snuggle and be close to her people. If Daphne sounds like the girl for you, then please fill out an adoption application. This girl is ready for her forever home!FOCCAS is a foster based, non-profit rescue in Crossville, TN. Matter is a sweet, people-loving boy who enjoys being around his humans and is always happy to make new friends. He also gets along wonderfully with other dogs, making him a great companion for a family with another friendly pup. Story
Meet Ben: Certified Hug Expert! Ben is proof that sometimes all a dog needs is someone willing to see their potential. Ben is a Poodle mix (possibly with lab) who is around 3 years old and 70 pounds. He's house trained, kennel trained, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, will be microchipped, and neuter scheduled. Ben has an enormous heart and so much love to give. His favorite thing in the world is being close to his people, especially if it means giving one of his signature gentle hugs. He's incredibly affectionate with goofy, enthusiastic energy and does wonderfully with other dogs - he's very tolerant and enjoys canine companionship. Before coming into our care, Ben had a difficult start to life... He was underweight, suffering from significant skin and coat issues, and desperately in need of medical care and compassion. His coat is starting to recover, and every day he looks and feels a little more like the dog he was always meant to be. Prior to us, Ben was unfortunately recommended for behavioral euthanasia. Thankfully, our trainer saw the dog Ben truly was beneath everything he'd been through. Given time to decompress with structure and guidance, Ben has shown just how eager he is to learn and how deeply he wants to connect with people. He responds well to training - he's making great progress and listens well when redirected. We've identified some resource guarding that we're addressing, and Ben has been responsive to guidance. Ben is available as a foster-to-adopt. The foster period is free and gives everyone the opportunity to ensure it's the right fit while we continue supporting his success. If you're looking for a dog with endless love to give and you're willing to continue helping him become the very best version of himself, Ben just might be your perfect match! -About 3 years old, 70 lbs -Poodle mix (possibly with lab) -House-trained, kennel-trained -Great with other dogs -Cats and children are unknown at this time -Currently in training and responds well to guidance -Up to date on vaccines, HW negative -Will be microchipped and neuter is scheduled -Foster-to-adopt; adoption fee will be $250 -Located in Lapeer County, MI Apply here if interested!! https://form.jotform.com/252927582638167
