Story
Onya is a petite, gentle, 3 year old Standard Poodle. Onya would be best suited in a home with someone home most of the day. This beautiful, phantom marked girl lived the last 2 years outside. Although she lived a great life with other dogs and a huge property she came to PAR after her owner passed away.  Onya has done very well meeting other dogs and seems to have little interest in the cat she occasionally sees at her foster home. Onya shouldn't live with free range chickens or goats.  Moving inside has been a huge adjustment for this girl. She's working on house training. Her foster is working to get her into a schedule of feeding, which will help with a routine for house training as well. She's done beautifully walking on a leash. She does not like her person to be out of her sight. She'll try to escape the fenced area and she panics in the house, therefore she is to be crated when no one is in the home. Onya does not like being in a crate, because that means she's alone, and this anxious girl stresses when alone. She's been gentle meeting new people and even young children. When she's not seeking attention, she'll lie down and is very calm.  Her new home needs to be patient and understanding. Onya is being exposed to a lot of new things and needs at least 2-4 weeks to adjust.  She hasn't shown interest in toys yet, and doesn't seem food motivated, unless it's food that's not for her! All food must be kept up off the counters and tables if you are not right there. Personality wise, Onya is a dream! With care and patience this girl will make such a great addition to a loving home! Applications can be filled out at www.piedmontanimalrescue.com/adopt!  Petfinder and Adopt-A-Pet does NOT send us Applications.   We receive many applications and many never respond after processing GREATLY delaying the pets forever home.  Please only apply if you are serious about adopting.  Please also make sure your pets are up to date on you species applicable Vaccines (rabies, Distemper/Parvo, FVRCP, Bordetella), spayed/neutered, and on Heartworm prevention if a canine.   The adoption fee includes their age appropriate vaccinations(DA2PP and Bordetella), Dewormer, spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm test as well as the registration of their microchip information to you. The first step to adopting is to fill out an application for adoption. Once approved we will arrange a time for you to meet the animal you are interested in. If it is a match the adoption can then be completed and you can take home your new furry family member. If it is not a match we will file your approved application and you can wait till you find the perfect match. ##2010556##

Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.  Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.  Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.  Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team   Date into Rescue: 2/1/2022 Reason for being in rescue: Lovingly surrendered by owners Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Posh is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. On 02/09/22 Posh had entropion repair on his lower eyelid. He also had a dental polishing and a deep ear cleaning. Posh can be prone to ear infections. Keeping his ears clean is imperative.  Weight: 45 lbs Height: 24 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $599 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? Posh is an active dog that has had a lot of change over the last 8 months. He needs stability and patience and continued socialization. Posh is an alpha male and needs an owner that will commit to positive reinforcement training and redirection of behaviors. Posh prefers women to men so an alpha female owner is his ideal home. Posh could live with other dogs (he always has) or be the only dog. Posh is not good with children and will not be placed in a home with children. He requires SLOW introductions to new people. What is my personality like? Posh and his brother Hans were the beloved companions of a single professional. Sadly, significant health challenges made caring for Posh impossible and he was surrendered to rescue to help him find the right forever home.  Posh's owner describes him as a a big, happy love bug - he thinks he is a toy poodle lap dog! He loves to give big hugs and kisses. Posh is not fond of the vet or of grooming but with lots of gentle persuasion it can be managed.  Here is what our caregivers say about this beautiful boy. Posh is a sweet boy that is looking for a mama. The reason I say “mama” is because posh takes direction from women very easily where as he is a little slower to warm up with men. He needs someone that can keep him in line. He is all boy! Posh does well with other dogs; he enjoys the company of dogs his size. Occasionally when he’s over stimulated you’ll have to correct him and let him know he’s being a little too much. Posh is not the best with strangers - you have to buy this boy's love with treats and patience. He does not appreciate being approached without permission and will let you now his displeasure. Posh slightly pulls on a leash and will need some leash training. He would excel at any type of positive reinforcement training as he is very intelligent. Posh loves belly rubs and does very good about keeping his crate clean. It is required posh have a crate in the home this will help his transition to a new environment as well as give him a place to retreat to when he’s feeling overwhelmed. How do I act when I first meet new people? A little timid, but incredibly treat motivated Other tips and tidbits: Posh is 3.5 years old. We celebrate his birthday as 2/1/2019. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.   To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Loo is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative. Loo has itchy skin that could be seasonal allergy or food related. He has responded well to antibiotics, but is something his forever home will continue to monitor as it does cause some hair loss. Weight: 37 lbs Height: 24 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $599 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? Loo is looking for a home where he will be able to play all day and exert all of his energy. Loo needs a doggy companion who can show him the ropes and balance out his outgoing personality but also be a playmate. Since Loo is so young he is still figuring out how to be sure of himself, and we believe that he will blossom into a confident and outgoing dog. Loo does well with dogs of all sizes, and doesn’t pay much attention to cats so believe he will be fine in a home with cats.  What is my personality like? For a young dog, Loo has lived a lot of life. He arrived in rescue via a NC shelter to which he was surrendered. His original owners had rehomed him on Craigslist (we don't know why) and his new owners surrendered him to a shelter after less than 48 hours in the home. That is a lot of change in a short amount of time and Lou was panicked as you can imagine.  As Loo has settled into life in rescue, we have seen a wonderful personality emerge. Loo still has a lot of puppy energy since he just recently turned a year old. He has never met a stranger and loves everyone. He is one outgoing boy, the caregivers here all love his spunky antics. He also loves to be held like a baby (check out some of the photos on his profile of his caregiver holding him!).  Loo would be the perfect hiking, or running buddy but he does need some fine tuning with his leash skills. He is super dog friendly and enjoys running and playing with his buddies here at the farm all day long. Since arriving here at the farm Loo has presented some skin issues but he is on the road to overcoming them with a special diet. We believe these issues came from either allergies or a food sensitivity.  Loo is timid and fearful at the vet. With his caregivers he is a very social and loving dog. Something about the smells of a vet's office makes him nervous and you will see a more timid and anxious dog in this setting. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly Other tips and tidbits: Loo is estimated at 1 year old. We celebrate his birthday as 2/10/2022. House trained? Bailey is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Bailey has history with vets. His records indicate challenges being vetted; our vet was able to examine him without issue, but allowed the exam to proceed at Bailey's pace and on his terms. Bailey wants everything on his terms. Your vet will need to be prepared to go slow, let him build trust, have lots of treats ready, and offer him confidence.  Weight: 35 lbs Height: 16 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $399 Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? Bailey seeks a family and home to call his own. He is a cute, mid-sized pup with a personality larger than life. Bailey is accustomed to living life on his terms. He is affectionate, but not in your face. He does not like to be told what to do and will remind you that he is independent and lives life his way. Bailey loves his people and enjoys being around them. He politely asks for his next family kids' not be the baby size. Babies make Bailey a little uneasy. Bailey can get along with other dogs his size or bigger if they are calm and not too rowdy. Bailey has not been cat tested.  Bailey needs a savvy dog owner. If allowed, he will be alpha of the home, including over humans. He is not for a first time dog owner or for an owner looking for a submissive dog. He is smart and likes life on his terms. Think of him as an independent soul. What is my personality like? Bailey was purchased as a young pup by his family. His family went thru a divorce and unfortunately for Bailey, he was passed along to wife and then to the husband and neither of them could give him the home he deserves. Bailey is a sweet guy but not overly affectionate. He's a little spunky when the mood strikes but overall he's a mellow guy that likes to watch the world float by.  Bailey can be reactive if his people grab his collar and try to pull him around. If you need to catch him quickly, the best way that's the most comfortable for Bailey is with a leash and a bag of treats. Bailey is super food motivated and will happily do anything you ask of him. He was very well trained by his former family. He knows all the basics but his recall is unreliable. He is crate trained. We would recommend he have a crate to go into in his new home.  How do I act when I first meet new people? Bailey is a super sweet gentleman. He will kindly come over to you and check you out. If you offer food then you've already won him over. If you provide a cozy lap then you're his bestie.  Other tips and tidbits: Bailey's family stated he was 10 years old when surrendered to rescue. We celebrate his birthday as 11/19/2012. House trained? Jules Verne is a very special boy with a very congenital brain disorder called polymircogyria. This condition has only been reported in 4 canines (all Standard Poodles) and few cattle. Some of the symptoms accompanied with Jules’ condition include vision impairment, some hearing loss, loss of sense of balance, loss of motor skills, and (sometimes) very fast, sudden, uncontrollable movements of the limbs. Due to this condition he is vision impaired and only hears high pitched sounds. He is neutered and up to date on vaccines. If you are considering welcoming this special boy into your home, please do your research on this condition in dogs. We will also happily discuss all that we know with you and share detailed medical reports from the neurologists that have seen Jules Verne and diagnosed him. Weight: 42 lbs Height: 24 in Spayed/Neutered: No Adoption Fee: $1 - I am priceless Fence needed? Yes, Jules requires a physically fenced yard with fencing 4 feet or taller What kind of home would be best for me? There are dogs that are special, and then there is Jules Verne. He is one of only 4 known diagnosed cases of his brain disorder. Lack of vision and hearing do not slow him down - he is the happiest, most playful boy you will meet. There is simply nothing better than watching Jules Verne play and live his best life! We are looking for a home that will understand and appreciate Jules Verne for who he is. His normal will always look different than other dogs. He would be happy with another large female dog, or as your only pet. No small dogs or cats please. Jules Verne wants a home where he can play, enjoy a fenced yard, and where someone will appreciate his uniqueness and recognize the beauty it creates. He is not well suited for a home with children. What is my personality like? Jules Verne. What a boy! Jules was rehomed for free from his breeder as a puppy part of a difficult birth and and a mom that wouldn't nurse. The family that welcomed him quickly realized something was not "normal". Their standard poodle puppy was wobbly, didn't seem to be able to be seen, and was just off. Over a month he only seemed to get worse and was ultimately diagnosed by their vet as having suspected brain lesions. The vet recommended euthanasia. The family was overwhelmed and reached out to rescue for help. Upon arrival in rescue, we recognized that Jules was definitely vision impaired and also hearing impaired. He only hears high pitched sounds. His owners had suggested he may have seizures. So we set out on a journey to understand what we were working with. Our first effort was to rule out a liver shunt. Thankfully, Jules Verne's liver functions just fine. Next up was a neurology consult and MRI. The MRI revealed that Jules Verne has a rare, congenital brain disorder called polymicrogyria. This condition has been rarely described in dogs, but in humans the prognosis appears to be variable for each individual case. It can lead to seizures and behavioral changes over time. There are no other dogs quite like Jules Verne. Although Jules has a rare neurological condition that has greatly affected his brain since being in utero, this boy is as sweet as you could ever imagine to his people. Jules absolutely loves and adores the people he trusts the most. Once you and Jules spend enough time together, he will love you for as long as he lives. While Jules can coexist with other male dogs, he can be selective with the male dogs that he likes. He definitely prefers female canine companions over males. You can occasionally sneak a peek of Jules playing with his lady friends, and other times, you can catch him doing his own thing whether that be napping in the sun, sniffing everything out, or simply romping about by himself. Jules also absolutely LOVES toys; specifically durable rubber ones. He will eventually find a way to destroy each toy piece by piece, but is perfectly content receiving a brand new one to have fun with. Another thing about Jules is he has to have his safe space. His just so happens to be his crate. Jules will willingly go in and out of his crate as he pleases, though sometimes he could use a bit of help from his favorite human going in or coming out. Jules is always on the go, no matter the day, rain or shine. This boy has lots of energy on his good days, and can be a bit reserved on other days. Another thing about Jules, is that he LOVES food. Kibble, treats, snacks, anything that he deems good enough, is the key to this boys heart. Jules has no idea that he is different than all of the other dogs. From the people that know and love Jules, he is just as normal and quirky as any other canine. Once Jules considers you trustworthy and a relationship is created, Jules will show his sweet, loving, and affectionate demeanor to them. Jules is a very special boy who is loved by so so many, different or not. In all reality, it’s Jules Vernes’ world, and we’re all just living in it. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly Other tips and tidbits: Jules Verne's birthday is 12/11/2020 House trained?
