Story
Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.  Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.  Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.  Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team   Young not in VPDate into Rescue:10/7/2024 Reason for being in rescue: Breeder release, Pups that did not sell. Foster location: In Foster in Wilmington, NC Special Needs? Blaze is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Weight: 51 lbs Height: 24 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $699 Fence needed? Yes, Blaze requires a physically fenced yard with fencing 4 feet or taller. What kind of home would be best for me? H andsome Blaze is a young dog that is very light on life experiences. He needs a special home where his human will be his constant companion and teacher. His ideal adopter will have an abundance of patience, love, understanding, compassion, forgiveness, calmness, and empathy. It’s essential that Blaze’s family has experience with shy or special-needs dogs, as he requires gentle guidance to build his confidence. Currently, Blaze is fearful of many things and will need time and encouragement to feel secure. He’s not yet comfortable approaching people for pets or treats, so his new family should be skilled in helping timid dogs blossom. A confident dog in the household is required, as it can help Blaze learn how to navigate the world and understand what it means to be a beloved pet. Given his anxious nature, Blaze would thrive in a home without children, where sudden noises and movements won’t startle him. Ideally, his adopter would be a single person or a couple dedicated to helping him grow through compassionate teaching. His adopter MUST be experienced in working with developing dogs from a mistrustful, skittish, and fearful dog into a well-trained pet. What is my personality like?  Meet big Blaze, a shy and timid guy who came to us as a breeder release and is just beginning to discover what it means to be a dog. Blaze has only known life in a breeding environment. He has a long road ahead in terms of social adjustment and learning to embrace life as a beloved pet. Blaze is reserved, timid, and shy when interacting with both animals and people. Everything is new and can be a bit scary for him. Here at CPR, Blaze is starting to learn about love, companionship, and the joys of being a dog. Blaze is living in a foster home and making such good progress. He walks well on a leash. He is social at puppy play groups. He takes treats gently and more confidently every day. Blaze has a deep desire for love and affection, but his fear holds him back. With patience and kindness, you can help him feel safe enough to take that leap. If you’re an experienced dog owner ready to guide Blaze on his journey to becoming the loving companion he’s meant to be, please consider opening your heart and home to him. Adopting Blaze means transforming his life and helping him write his redemption story. How do I act when I first meet new people? When meeting new people, Blaze typically retreats. He has a gentle soul and it’s obvious he dearly wants to trust people.  Although he may seem distant, his longing for connection is clear. With time and trust, Blaze has the potential to become the sweetest, most loving dog you could ever imagine. Other tips and tidbits: Blaze was born on or around 3/1/2024. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.   To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR. January 23, 2026, 8:59 am

His owners were found but did not want him.  Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Draco is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. We have no history on Draco before arriving in rescue. We were told that he is a standard poodle.  He looks and acts like he is a standard poodle.  He does not shed in his foster home.  Our best estimate is that he is a standard poodle, but we cannot guarantee his DNA. We will not guarantee that he is hypoallergenic. Weight: 58 lbs Height: 24 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $699 Fence needed? Draco would vastly prefer a physically fenced in yard.  To the right home with plans for exercise and off leash time at least 3 times per week for at least 1 hour each time, we would consider it for Draco.  Remember he is a big boy and big boys have lots of energy.   What kind of home would be best for me? Draco has now been with us for a while and has shown us a lot about his personality and what he's looking for.  What Draco wants is a best friend, a travelling companion, a let's go everywhere let's do everything together kind of home. Draco sleeps at his foster mom's feet on a dog bed.  Sleeping in the bedroom with his people is non-negotiable for Draco.  If your dogs do not sleep in the bedroom, this is NOT your dog.   Draco requires a home where someone is either home or willing to take them with him. He has separation anxiety. He won't tear up the furniture or eat the curtains but anything edible on the counters is fair game.  He was placed once and returned due to anxiety when his human was not home. Draco is looking for a home that will either take him everywhere with them or be home the majority of the day. He wants to be where you are. Draco could do well with a couple if one of the couple understands that while he will share his love, he is going to pick one of you as his numero uno.  In his foster home, that person is foster mom; Dad is okay too but Mom ROCKS.   We believe that Draco would be best in a home with another dog. It will offer him companionship in the limited times that his human may have to be away. And will offer him a playmate and role model. What is my personality like? Meet Draco, a handsome standard poodle mix with a heart of pure gold. Draco is the kind of dog who has never met a stranger—his warm and loving nature makes everyone he meets feel like an instant best friend.   Draco is truly a people dog. While he enjoys the company of other dogs and does wonderfully with them, it’s clear that you will always be his one and only. His loyalty and devotion shine in everything he does, making him the perfect companion for someone looking for a true best friend.  Draco prefers large and mid-size dogs. He is living with several very tiny dogs and does well with them, but an occasional squeal gets his interest up.  He would be better in a home with dogs over 15 lbs.  He is simply a very big boy but he does not know it. Draco would make an ideal ESA dog.  He is also very much in favor of human touch and nightly he spends time settling his great big head in foster mom's lap for hugs and kisses.  He loves to be touched, petted and stroked.  He would be great for someone who needs to give that tactile touch to a dog.  He is definitely a lap dog!   Draco loves to give hugs and he loves to play with the tennis ball.  Fetch anyone! Draco already has some great skills under his belt—he walks nicely on a leash, knows how to sit, and is eager to learn even more. His eagerness to please paired with his affectionate personality makes him not only a wonderful pet but also an easy and rewarding dog to train. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving, and endlessly sweet companion who will fill your days with devotion and joy, Draco may be the perfect fit for your family. How do I act when I first meet new people? Draco loves people. Everyone is a new best friend. Other tips and tidbits: The shelter estimated Draco at 3 years old. We have no history or paperwork on his life pre-rescue. We celebrate his birthday 09/21/2022. On October 11, a caregiver left the bottom latch of Draco's crate unlatched.  Draco got out of the unlatched side of his crate and proceeded to rip through the trash can that was in his cottage and then found a mouse trap and ate the bait that was inside.  Draco went home with our director that night for observation and fortunately, he must have a cast iron stomach because he had absolutely no repercussions from his mischievous actions.  Our director took him home.  She has since lost 3 loaves of bread, several tins of muffins and a bag of bagels and a bag of cotton candy.  All of this happens when a human leaves the house, not when we are home.  When we are home he's an angel.  We now crate Dracon when we leave (which is seldom) and make sure that bottom latch is secure.  He has so far not tried again to escape a properly latched crate.     House trained?  Draco has done very well in this department in his foster.  He did let loose once in the kitchen but he had only been with us about 24 hours and we think we did not read his signals.  He goes to the door to let us know it's time to go.  Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. Otis is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. When Otis landed at the shelter, he had to have surgery to remove a collar that was embedded in his body. He has healed physically from the surgery and will have physical scarring for the rest of his life. Weight: 60.5 lbs Height: 24 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $699 Fence needed? Yes, Otis requires a physically fenced yard with fencing 4 feet or taller. What kind of home would be best for me? Otis has a hard past. When Otis landed at the shelter, he had to have surgery to remove a collar that was embedded in his body. We cannot imagine!! The amount of neglect and abuse this boy endured early in life is nothing short of heartbreaking. But Otis doesn't want you to feel sorry for him. Otis is best suited for a home where he is the only dog. He is not looking for a playful, high-energy dog partner - he wants space, structure, and the freedom to be himself without being challenged. Otis is looking for an adopter who appreciates a confident, independent dog and is willing to give him the time and guidance he needs to settle in. In the right environment, with the right person, Otis has the potential to be a loyal, steady companion who thrives on respect, routine, and understanding. What is my personality like? Meet Otis, a 3-year-old, 68-pound white doodle with a confident presence and a big personality to match. Otis is friendly and social with people and enjoys human attention, but when it comes to other dogs, he knows exactly what he does and does not like. Otis is picky about his friends and knows what he likes and doesn't like. He is not a fan of dogs - especially puppies - getting in his face or pushing his boundaries, and he makes his preferences very clear. On leash, Otis does pull fairly hard. Given that he has been chained in the past, this behavior isn’t surprising, and with consistent training and patience, he has the potential to improve. He will benefit from an adopter who is confident handling a strong dog and committed to continuing leash work in a positive, structured way. Otis is still figuring out toys and play and hasn’t shown much interest in them yet, which may change as he becomes more settled and secure in a home environment. Crates are not his favorite place, but he will go in willingly if a treat is tossed inside, and once in, he keeps his space clean. With time and positive associations, his comfort with crating may continue to improve. Like many dogs transitioning into a new chapter, Otis will need time to adjust to a home setting. He will require patience as he learns your routines, expectations, and house rules. A structured, consistent home with clear boundaries will help Otis feel secure and understand what’s expected of him. How do I act when I first meet new people? Other tips and tidbits: Birthdate 12/18/2022 House trained? Fiyero is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. On 12/9/25 he had a deep ear cleaning under sedation. Fiyero was found as a stray. We have no background on his life pre-rescue and cannot confirm his breed mix. We cannot guarantee that he is hypoallergenic or that he won't shed. Weight: 53 lbs Height: 24 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $699 Fence needed? Yes, Fiyero requires a physically fenced yard with fencing 4 feet or taller. What kind of home would be best for me? Fiyero can become easily overstimulated, especially in environments with a lot of activity or groups of other dogs. While he can coexist around dogs, he does not need a canine companion and may actually thrive as the only dog in the home. A quieter, more predictable household will help him feel safe and relaxed as he continues to decompress and learn what it means to be a full-time pet. Because of his sensitivity and tendency to become overwhelmed, Fiyero would do best in a home without children. He needs patient, thoughtful adults who can read his signals, respect his boundaries, and help him rebuild trust through kindness and consistency. What is my personality like? Meet Fiyero, a 2-year-old white male doodle with a tender heart and a gentle spirit. Fiyero is an incredibly sweet boy, but he carries clear signs that life hasn’t always been kind to him. He is sensitive to physical touch and may flinch at first when hands reach toward him, suggesting that not all of his past experiences with people were positive. Because of this, Fiyero needs an adopter who understands that trust takes time and who is willing to let him set the pace when it comes to affection. One place where Fiyero’s confidence truly shines is playtime. He loves toys - and fetch is his absolute favorite. Engaging in play is a wonderful way to bond with him and help him release energy in a positive, confidence-building way. On leash, Fiyero does pull, but he’s not a freight train - just a dog who could benefit from continued leash training and calm, consistent guidance. Fiyero is crate trained and keeps his crate clean, which shows his desire to do the right thing once he understands expectations. As a former stray, much of his history is unknown, but what is clear is that he wants to connect, he wants to learn, and he wants to feel safe. With time, patience, and understanding, Fiyero has the potential to become a deeply loyal and loving companion. For the right person - someone who values a gentle approach and is willing to let a dog heal at his own pace - Fiyero will be an incredibly rewarding addition to the family.   How do I act when I first meet new people? Fiyero can be a bit tentative, but warms up quickly. Other tips and tidbits: Fiyero was found as a stray. We have no history on him. Based on his overall health and condition he is estimated at under 2 years old. We celebrate his birthday 04/26/24. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours.
