Thankfully, kind rescuers stepped in and gave me the chance to leave that difficult life behind. Since then, I've been learning what it feels like to be safe, comfortable, and cared for. I'm a big, handsome Standard Poodle with a wonderfully outgoing personality and a heart that seems to have endless room for people. From the very first day I arrived, I acted as though I'd already been part of the family—walking around to see what everyone was doing, introducing myself, and happily joining in wherever something interesting was happening. I'm naturally curious, social, and always eager to be included, so you can usually find me right in the middle of whatever my humans are up to. If I had to choose between dogs and people, I'd choose my people every time. I get along very well with other dogs and can happily spend time and play with them, but my attention always seems to come back to the people nearby. I'll play with whichever dogs happen to be around you, and if you move somewhere else, there's a very good chance I'll abandon the party and follow right behind! If you're busy doing something and suddenly hear a familiar set of happy footsteps beside you, don't be surprised when you turn around and find me there! I simply love being wherever my people are. I'm the kind of dog who doesn't want to watch life from the sidelines—I want to experience it right alongside you. Once we become close, I may even roll over and show you my belly—a sweet sign that I'm feeling comfortable with you. I'm also comfortable being picked up with support under my belly. With continued practice, consistency, and positive reinforcement, I can keep improving my leash manners and become an even better walking companion.   TRAINING & HABITS I don't show any resource guarding around food with either people or other dogs. I do enjoy being close to my people, and while I don't currently show significant separation anxiety, I may be prone to developing it, so gradually helping me build confidence with alone time will be important. When there's something I really want, I may use a little demand barking to get your attention. I may whine when I'm in a kennel, so continued positive kennel training and a consistent routine will help me become more comfortable settling on my own. I'm comfortable using both indoor pee pads and going potty outside. As a male dog, I may be inclined to mark when I'm introduced to a new environment, so a little extra supervision and guidance while I'm getting familiar with a new home will help me adjust successfully.   MY IDEAL HOME I’m searching for a patient, loving family who can help me become the best version of myself. Thank you for your interest in Mozart. Some dogs get every opportunity. Mozart is not one of them. Despite his sweetness, loyalty, and gentle nature, life has handed this beautiful Standard Poodle the short end of the stick far too many times. He has been owned, surrendered, adopted, returned, adopted again, returned again, transferred to SPIN, moved between fosters, adopted once more — and then returned yet again. Each time, Mozart tried. Each time, he bonded. And each time, humans let him down. When a Quebec shelter reached out for help after his second return, we knew we had to step in. Beneath his stress and confusion, there was a wonderful dog whose emotional needs simply weren’t being met. Once in our care, we discovered he was a purebred Standard Poodle with a heart bigger than his struggles — and a history that finally needed to change. Today, Mozart has been with dedicated, experienced fosters for two months. He is decompressing, learning, and showing us exactly who he is when he feels safe and understood.

SUNDERLAND, ON - Some dogs arrive in rescue carrying emotional baggage. Kara arrived carrying hope. For the first four years of her life (well, we think she is four), Kara lived as a commercial breeding dog. The world outside the puppy farm was almost completely unknown to her. A car ride, a family home, soft furniture, kind hands, a warm bath, toys and the simple freedom to make choices were all brand-new experiences. Despite that, Kara has embraced her new life with a joy that is impossible not to smile at. Her whole body wiggles when she wags her tail, she gently nudges her foster family for affection and she's happiest when she's close to her people. She wants so badly to trust and every day she grows a little braver. One of the biggest surprises came on her very first night. Although everything around her was unfamiliar, Kara let her foster family know she needed to go outside rather than having an accident in the house. It was an incredible glimpse into just how smart and eager she is to learn. Like many former breeding dogs, Kara still has a lot to discover about life as a beloved family pet. She'll need patience, understanding and encouragement as she continues building confidence. The reward, however, is watching this sweet little girl blossom into the dog she was always meant to be.

OSHAWA, ON - Magnus is a 3-year-old standard poodle who has been loved every day of his life. But when the owner’s health and mobility declined, and a move was on the horizon, they made the decision to reach out to SPIN, as they could no longer meet Magnus’s exercise and mental enrichment needs. Magnus is currently in his foster home and his foster family has been nothing short of amazed by his intelligence and playfulness.

Thank you for your interest in Hubert. He is such a fun loving, energetic, happy, barky boy. He loves people and dogs and life. Some of it he loves a little too much. Well, not too much for him but too much for other dogs. But he is really just a softee who wants to run and play and be chased. Hubert hasn't had the best start in life. He was sold to an elderly owner who wasn't able to manage a happy, energetic dog so Hubert landed in a day care/boarding facility. His owner wasn't able to take him back and the really sad things started happening. He was sold, returned, sold, returned and finally someone took him to the vet. Hubert was really matted and was finally groomed. It was then discovered that he had a terrible ear infection and an infected toe! Once again people had failed him. Off to the vet he went and as soon as he received treatment he felt so much better and his happy came out! He went to live with another family and they really loved him but underestimated how much energy is required when you have a dog like Hubert so SPIN was called. Hubert is just the kind of dog we love! Running, bouncing, barking, playing, snuggling, hugging, what could be better?

Ollie and Lulu were surrendered to us when their owner no longer had the time to care for them. Ollie and Lulu may be seniors but they sure do like to go for walks and run around the yard together. They are a volunteer favourite because of their goofy and sweet dispositions. They are selective with dogs and would only do well in a home with another calm dog that does not intimidate or become rough with them. Ollie does bark at other dogs in passing, while Lulu ignores them. Ollie and Lulu would do well in just about any home. They have been great with respectful children that are experienced with dogs. Lulu can sometimes have grumpy moments when she wants her space to nap. It's important to look for the obvious signs when she needs alone time. Ollie is always happy and ready for a cuddle. This cute duo have great house manners, they frequently go on sleepovers with our dedicated volunteers who report they are always on their best behaviour.
