Story
Thank you for your interest in Mozart. Some dogs get every opportunity. Mozart is not one of them. Despite his sweetness, loyalty, and gentle nature, life has handed this beautiful Standard Poodle the short end of the stick far too many times. He has been owned, surrendered, adopted, returned, adopted again, returned again, transferred to SPIN, moved between fosters, adopted once more — and then returned yet again. Each time, Mozart tried. Each time, he bonded. And each time, humans let him down. When a Quebec shelter reached out for help after his second return, we knew we had to step in. Beneath his stress and confusion, there was a wonderful dog whose emotional needs simply weren’t being met. Once in our care, we discovered he was a purebred Standard Poodle with a heart bigger than his struggles — and a history that finally needed to change. Today, Mozart has been with dedicated, experienced fosters for two months. He is decompressing, learning, and showing us exactly who he is when he feels safe and understood.

Story
Meet Sally — a sweet, snuggly Standard Poodle who is looking for her forever family, and we mean it this time. This will be Sally's sixth home, and we are determined to make it her last. Sally came to us carrying a reputation that turned out to be more about circumstance than character. Her previous family loved her and did their best, but anxiety in the home — on both ends of the leash — created a cycle that was hard to break. Sally was on anti-anxiety medication for a period, but it wasn't followed through consistently. She was also treated with joint support medications (Cartrophen and Librela) for her mild hip and elbow dysplasia, though those were eventually discontinued as well. Our vet has assessed Sally and doesn't feel she currently needs either the anxiety or joint medications — what she needs is the right home. And here's what gives us so much hope: the Sally we see in foster care is not the Sally we were told about. We were told she was highly anxious — we're not seeing that. We were told she didn't really like walks — she absolutely loves them. We were told she needed to be muzzled anytime she wasn't in her crate so she doesn't pick up soft items and eat them (terrible advice, by the way) — she is gentle, cooperative, and a joy to be around. Sally wasn't a difficult dog. She was a misunderstood one. SPIN loves poodles, and we know this girl. We know she is ready, and we know the right family is out there for her.

Story
Thank you for your interest in Hubert. He is such a fun loving, energetic, happy, barky boy. He loves people and dogs and life. Some of it he loves a little too much. Well, not too much for him but too much for other dogs. But he is really just a softee who wants to run and play and be chased. Hubert hasn't had the best start in life. He was sold to an elderly owner who wasn't able to manage a happy, energetic dog so Hubert landed in a day care/boarding facility. His owner wasn't able to take him back and the really sad things started happening. He was sold, returned, sold, returned and finally someone took him to the vet. Hubert was really matted and was finally groomed. It was then discovered that he had a terrible ear infection and an infected toe! Once again people had failed him. Off to the vet he went and as soon as he received treatment he felt so much better and his happy came out! He went to live with another family and they really loved him but underestimated how much energy is required when you have a dog like Hubert so SPIN was called. Hubert is just the kind of dog we love! Running, bouncing, barking, playing, snuggling, hugging, what could be better?

Story
Jean-Pierre (JP) is a striking three-year-old Standard Poodle who has made remarkable progress since being found abandoned in Quebec. When he first arrived at the shelter, he was frightened, in pain from an untreated ear infection, and unsure of people. With care, patience, and medical treatment, he started to heal — both physically and emotionally — and showed the sweet, loyal nature that defines him today.

Story
BOWMANVILLE, ON - Thank you for your interest in Oakley. In early 2025 we received a call about a 9 year old standard poodle who urgently needed help. He was living in a puppy mill and was being used as a stud dog. The mill owner was done with him and wanted him out. Afterall, if the dog isn't making the mill any money, then they aren't worth feeding. Oakley was being freed! Our volunteers dropped everything, hit the road and brought this boy to safety. He didn't have a name and his coat was so overgrown and matted that it came off in one piece. He had sores hidden beneath the hair, infections in both his eyes and ears and a mouth that needed attention. And yet-he was still wagging his tail. What a boy! Life has been better since leaving the mill, but it hasn't been perfect. Oakley has struggled. He's trying to learn all about living in the big, exciting world, but it's scary and he didn't learn the skills early in life when it's easy. Being a senior and trying to learn all new things is tough! Add to it that he's a dog and is trying to live in a human world and it's even tougher! But we LOVE this boy. Seriously. Those of us who have been lucky enough to spend time with him know he is trying his best to live in our world.

Story
Ollie and Lulu were surrendered to us when their owner no longer had the time to care for them. They both had untreated medical issues and severe dental disease, leaving them extremely uncomfortable and lethargic. After receiving treatment they became almost entirely different dogs. Ollie and Lulu may be seniors but they sure do like to go for walks and run around the yard together. They are a volunteer favourite because of their goofy and sweet dispositions. They are selective with dogs and would only do well in a home with another calm dog that does not intimidate or become rough with them. Ollie does bark at other dogs in passing, while Lulu ignores them. Ollie and Lulu would do well in just about any home. They have been great with respectful children that are experienced with dogs. Lulu can sometimes have grumpy moments when she wants her space to nap. It's important to look for the obvious signs when she needs alone time. Ollie is always happy and ready for a cuddle. This cute duo have great house manners, they frequently go on sleepovers with our dedicated volunteers who report they are always on their best behaviour.
