Story
Ollie and Lulu were surrendered to us when their owner no longer had the time to care for them. They both had untreated medical issues and severe dental disease, leaving them extremely uncomfortable and lethargic. After receiving treatment they became almost entirely different dogs. Ollie and Lulu may be seniors but they sure do like to go for walks and run around the yard together. They are a volunteer favourite because of their goofy and sweet dispositions. They are selective with dogs and would only do well in a home with another calm dog that does not intimidate or become rough with them. Ollie does bark at other dogs in passing, while Lulu ignores them. Ollie and Lulu would do well in just about any home. They have been great with respectful children that are experienced with dogs. Lulu can sometimes have grumpy moments when she wants her space to nap. It's important to look for the obvious signs when she needs alone time. Ollie is always happy and ready for a cuddle. This cute duo have great house manners, they frequently go on sleepovers with our dedicated volunteers who report they are always on their best behaviour. Story
Meet Jim, a cuddly 6-year-old cockapoo who weighs 25 pounds. If you're looking for a playful dog who loves people and gets along well with other dogs, Jim would be a great fit. He welcomes visitors with a wagging tail and belly rub requests, quickly warming the hearts of everyone he meets. When greeting and sharing spaces with other dogs, he is friendly, calm, and relaxed. Jim loves to play, especially fetch, and he catches balls with impressive ease. He also has a calm side and is perfectly content relaxing in his bed or snuggling beside you while you work. He enjoys walks and adventures, taking in every chance to sniff and explore. Jim is great in the car and likes watching the world go by from the window throughout the journey. Jim can be a bit impatient with toddlers, so he would do best in a home with older children or adults. Although he is usually quiet, he does bark at doorbells, whether they are real or on TV. He may also bark at sounds he hears when he cannot see where they are coming from, so a condo or apartment may not be the ideal home for him. If you're looking for a loyal dog who will happily sleep on the bed and snuggle with you on the couch, please consider adopting Jim. He will bring warmth, joy, and companionship to your life.   June 17, 2026, 10:24 am

Story
Honey: came to us from a Mennonite puppy mill  Honey is a gentle, affectionate little companion looking for a home where she can be close to her people. She may take time to warm up, but once she loves you, she becomes a true Velcro dog.  She will follow you everywhere, happily snoozing beside you while you work, and always ready for cuddles, belly rubs, and couch time. She has never shown any aggression, and quickly bonds with her person.  Honey has been around children aged 9+ and does well with them. She has shown little interest in other dogs and peacefully coexists with them, although she can become jealous when attention is given to another dog and may try to squeeze herself into the spotlight. She has also been around cats, squirrels, and rabbits without showing any prey drive. She enjoys walks and is making progress with her leash manners, though she still needs continued training. Honey is smart, food-motivated, and has already learned “sit.” She loves treats, especially cheese, and because she only has seven teeth left, her kibble is softened with water.  Like many mill dogs, Honey can become anxious in various new and different scenarios. She struggled with nighttime pacing and panting when she first arrived and is most comfortable sleeping in bed with her people. She is not a fan of crates, dislikes car rides, and can be nervous around cars in general. Her adopter should be prepared to continue building her confidence and making sure she feel safe through positive reinforcement and enrichment, to help her feel secure.  Honey is mostly housetrained and does best on a consistent bathroom schedule, as she doesn't reliably signal when she needs to go outside. Occasional accidents can happen if her routine changes. Pee pads are available Honey is not destructive and enjoys her stuffies and chew toys. She may bark when excited or join in if another dog starts barking. She is a self appointed household logistics coordinator, and will adorably relocate laundry around the house like many mill dogs do. Honey will thrive with someone looking for a devoted, loving companion who wants to be part of every moment of their day. In return, she'll provide endless affection, loyalty, and plenty of laughs.  June 17, 2026, 10:24 am

Story
Leo is approximately 2 years old and 12 pounds  Leo is proof that patience and trust can change a life. When Leo first arrived in foster care, he was wary of people, and handling him could be a challenge. Months later, this clever, affectionate poodle now loves curling up on his foster mom's lap. Leo thrives on kindness, routine, and thoughtful introductions. Once he feels comfortable, he enjoys playing with other friendly dogs and has been wonderful with his puppy foster brother. When he has had enough playtime, Leo communicates his boundaries appropriately and simply walks away rather than engaging in conflict. He has made tremendous progress with both leash manners and dog reactivity. While he once barked and lunged at other dogs, he can now calmly pass them and even greet them appropriately. He is also growing more comfortable around strangers and has improved significantly when visitors come into the home. Leo still needs time, treats, and slow introductions to help him build confidence with new people. Leo will need an adopter committed to continuing his training in an adult-only home. His foster mom uses a muzzle for nail trims and for handling certain grooming areas, especially his front feet. In the past, grooming could lead to nipping or biting, but he is now coping much better and communicating more clearly. He can still become overly excited during games like fetch and may show some arousal grabbing, but he has made excellent progress learning "drop it," "wait," and "ok" through positive reinforcement training. When Leo first arrived, he would try to ingest items he found outdoors. With training and management, that behavior has improved dramatically, especially when traded for a treat. He responds well to cues like "look" and "drop it," though supervision is still important. In the home, Leo is an absolute delight. He is housetrained, crate-trained, fine when left alone, gentle when taking treats, rides beautifully in the car, and knows several commands including sit, down, wait, look, bow, and recall. He enjoys adventures but most of all loves being close to his humans. Because he can be vocal, apartment living would not be a good fit, and he will need a secure fenced yard. Every day brings new successes for little Leo. His journey has been remarkable, and with a patient, understanding family willing to keep building his confidence, he will reward them with loyalty, affection, and companionship.June 17, 2026, 10:24 am

Story
Meet Jerry Currently in Calgary! Name: Jerry Age: 3 years Sex: Neutered Male Breed: Poodle Color: Brown / Weight: 4.2 kg Height: 30 cm   Rescue Story Jerry was rescued from a city shelter in Korea before euthanasia. He is now looking for a patient and understanding home that can provide the structure, time, and support he needs.   ‍‍‍ Social with People Jerry is an affectionate dog who enjoys being near people and likes companionship. Once he feels comfortable, he enjoys attention, pets, and relaxing near his trusted people.   He can be sensitive when touched unexpectedly, especially around his hind end, and prefers gentle, respectful handling. He does best when interactions happen calmly and on his terms.   Due to behaviors observed in his current home, Jerry is looking for an adult-only home or a home with older, dog-savvy teenagers.   Social with Other Dogs Jerry will politely greet unfamiliar dogs and sniff them, but he does not show strong interest in playing. He is generally independent and enjoys having his own space.   Cats When he sees cats during walks, Jerry tends to remain focused on his handler and has not shown strong reactions.   Energy Level Jerry has a moderate energy level. He enjoys walks and outdoor time, but also likes resting quietly for much of the day.   Walking Jerry walks well on leash and generally follows his handler without excessive pulling.   Home Life & Personality Jerry enjoys a calm, predictable routine. In his previous foster home, he often rested quietly on his cushion while his foster parent worked nearby.   Like many rescue dogs, Jerry can find major life transitions challenging. During his adjustment period in a new home, he has been observed pacing at times, having difficulty settling, and showing increased attachment to his people. These behaviors may improve as he becomes more comfortable and secure in his environment.   Jerry has also shown some resource guarding and defensive behaviors around high-value items and toys in his current home. His future family should be prepared to manage these behaviors with positive reinforcement, structure, calm boundaries, and professional guidance if needed.   He enjoys enrichment activities such as food puzzles, nosework games, snuffle mats, chew items, and treat-searching games.   Ideal Home Jerry would do best with someone who:   • Has experience with anxious or sensitive dogs • Uses positive reinforcement methods • Can provide a calm and predictable routine • Understands the importance of decompression and boundaries • Is comfortable continuing confidence-building and enrichment activities • Has no young children in the home   Jerry may not be the right dog for every home, but for someone who understands sensitive dogs and is willing to give him the time and support he needs, he has so much love and companionship to offer. Story
*Note: Benny is in Korea now but will be flying to Toronto once adopted. For more info about the dog or the adoption application, please click here.BackgroundBenny’s story began on the streets. After being taken to a high-kill shelter, his name appeared on the euthanasia list but fate had other plans. He was saved just in time, and today Benny lives happily alongside other dogs at a boarding house, waiting for the forever home he so deserves.Personality and SocializationBenny is a gentle, sweet, and wonderfully social boy with a medium energy level that makes him an easy, adaptable companion. He loves the company of other dogs, especially those around his own size. He plays well with them and genuinely thrives in their company. With people, Benny is an absolute cuddle bug. He’s warm and affectionate, loves attention, and has no fear of men. Whether it’s snuggle time on the sofa or simply being near his people, Benny is happiest when he feels connected.BehaviourBenny is a well-mannered, easy-going boy in day-to-day life. He walks beautifully on a leash and loves his outdoor time. He is calm and comfortable in the car, and is equally patient and well-behaved during baths, nail clipping, and grooming sessions. For potty, he prefers to go outdoors but will use indoor pee pads when needed. He currently shows no separation anxiety when in the company of other dogs.Health and DietBenny is neutered, fully vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped, and receives monthly parasite prevention. He eats dry food twice a day and has shown no signs of food allergies. There are two health conditions to be aware of. Benny was diagnosed with Stage B2 heart disease and requires daily heart medication. He is stable and well-managed, and to help with the transition, Benny will come with two months of heart medication included. Benny has also recently developed nuclear sclerosis, a natural age-related change to the lens of the eye that causes a mild hazy appearance. It does not cause significant vision loss and requires no treatment. It is a common symptom associated with aging.Ideal HomeBenny doesn’t ask for much. He just wants to be loved. His ideal family is someone who can give him plenty of time and companionship. A work-from-home professional or retiree would be a wonderful match. Most importantly, his new family should be comfortable managing his heart medication and attending routine vet check-ups. In return, Benny will give you everything he has: unconditional love, endless loyalty, and all the cuddles you could ever want. Could you be the one he’s been waiting for?*Note: Benny is in Korea now but will be flying to Toronto once adopted. For more info about the dog or the adoption application, please click here.
