For nine years, Pepper was someone’s dog. He knew his person. He knew his home. He knew where he belonged. He knows his commands and will even sit pretty for a treat. And like any true hound, he believes every blade of grass deserves a thorough investigation. 🐾👃 But what Pepper really wants is so much simpler. He wants a soft place to lay his old hound bones. He wants to sniff in a yard again. He wants to be someone’s dog again. He wants a person to love him—and to know that he is loved. He doesn't like to be crated or too fond of a leash. Meet Jack, our 4-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound with the good looks, the hound dog charm, and a heart as big as those floppy ears. ❤️ Jack recently enjoyed a doggie weekend out with one of our volunteers, and we learned even more about what this good ol’ boy is like in a home. Here’s the lowdown on Jack: 🏡 Housetrained? Yep! No accidents during his weekend stay. 🛏️ Crate trained? Absolutely. One night, Jack put himself to bed in his crate and slept through the night with the door wide open. 🚗 Car rides? He’s an excellent passenger and settles in nicely for the ride. 🐶 Other dogs? Jack does well with dogs and seems to understand their boundaries. If another dog lets him know he’s being a little too nosy, he takes the hint and walks away. ❤️ People? Jack is a friendly, lovable guy who enjoys being around his humans. 🔇 Typical loud hound? Here’s the surprise: during his weekend away, Jack was completely quiet! Apparently he saves his singing voice for special occasions (aka squirrel patrol). 😂 🛁 Bath time? Jack is not a fan, but he handles it like a gentleman. His strategy is to stand perfectly still while looking as sad and betrayed as possible. No drama, just maximum guilt. 💦 Water bowl manners? Let’s just say neat drinking is not one of his talents. A mat or rug under his water bowl would be a wise investment. 🐱 Cats? No thank you. Jack needs a cat-free home. Jack is a sweet, easy-to-live-with hound who has now shown us that he can settle into a home, sleep through the night, ride beautifully in the car, respect canine corrections, and keep his hound commentary surprisingly quiet. If you’re looking for a lovable companion with classic hound charm and some pretty impressive house manners, Jack may be ready to hang his leash at your place. ❤️
