Story
Apply to Adopt Me! Willard is an almost 5-year-old Walker Hound mix that weighs 52 pounds. When Willard came to Lil Rascals almost one year ago, he was paralyzed in his back legs, had infected sores and wounds, an untreated UTI, and was emaciated, weighing less than 40 lbs. His owners at the time said he had sudden onset paralysis 5 months prior, took him to UF where surgery was performed on his spine. The surgery did not help him, so his owners rightfully began taking him to rehab. But they soon abandoned rehab for him because they no longer had the time and he sadly reverted to where he was. Lil Rascals got him back into rehab right away, where he had to start all over with therapy, this time weekly. He has not only gained strength, muscle mass and mobility, but he has also gotten joy back in his life. He now has a cart which has given him mobility again. He is a sweet boy that always wants to be near his person. He loves taking naps under the desk while his foster moms work. He lets you know when he has to go out with a distinct vocal bark. He is incontinent and has accidents so he wears a belly band. His favorite thing is going outside with his “wheels!”  He can go anywhere in his wheels and loves to go on walks and even runs sometimes. He attempts to bear weight on his back legs but he can not use them to walk. Willard enjoys car rides and meeting new people. He’s been around multiple cats and both small and medium-sized dogs and gets along great with them. He’s always ready to eat and takes daily probiotics. He enjoys busy bones like yak chews and bully sticks. He currently takes medication but the vet has been decreasing those. He loves hugs and attention but is also content to lie on his bed beside you and nap. Willard needs a family who will love and spoil him but be sympathetic to his special needs. He will need to continue to attend weekly rehab therapy so he doesn’t decline, but he is definitely making progress. He needs a home without a pool or stairs, and a home where someone can be home with him most of the time. If you think you can give this special boy a special home, please complete Willard's app and tell us more about your family. May 28, 2024, 9:43 am

Story
I am a very sweet and good dog but extremely aggressive toward other animals and afraid of people I do not know. My owners are heartbroken they have to put me on this site because I am such a perfect dog in every other way, but they know what is best for me and that is a home without pets, lots of land, and an owner who is home the majority of the time. I love to run and play fetch and take several walks a day. I am a super smart hound and understand a lot of human words and in good health, have all of my shots, am crate trained, potty trained, E-collar trained, etc. My owner says I need an experienced dog owner who can give me lots of love. My perfect home would be one with lots of land and just me and my owner ;-) Only serious inquiries please because my owners are going to be very picky where I go ;-)

Story
Pure bred tree walker coonhound We adopted this dog after the previous owner hit it with a car, the vet then had to amputate its rear leg. But she does not have any handicap or need any special assistance when it comes to walking, running or climbing stairs. She does need someone who can designate a good portion of their time with her because she has separation anxiety due to her accident. But she loves kids (we have 3) c of all ages and loves other animals and is very protective of the family. She is up to date on her vaccinations and heartworm and flea meds. My wife is going back to work and we would like to find her a home to where she isn't caged up all day howling.

Story
Apply to Adopt Me! Hi I’m Susie! My foster parents call me Sweet Susie Q. I am a smiley girl, as you can see in my video of me showing off my smile abilities. I’m an approx. 5-year-old, 43- lb. female beagle mix with a heart of gold. I’m a medium energy girl and I’ve done well with all the dogs I’ve met, although pushy dogs scare me a bit. I am also good with cats and kids! I am house broken and haven’t had a single accident in my foster home. Are you looking for a gardening buddy or outdoor adventure dog? I’m your gal! My favorite thing to do is follow my foster mom around the back yard while she gardens. I walk well on a leash, although going in a straight line is a work in progress. But I do love a good walk and then enjoy hanging out on the couch. I also ride well in a car. While I’m gaining more and more confidence being inside, the outdoors is still where I love running around and just being able to be "me," so I would love for my forever person to love the outdoors too. And it's a must that I have a secure fenced-in yard. I’m a shy but loving girl, and once I trust you, I’ll be your shadow. I do well sleeping in a crate, but I prefer to sleep in bed with my people. Susie is heart worm positive at this time, and is on the slow kill method, which we can explain that process to any interested applicant. She can enjoy regular activities. Heart worm disease is contracted from an infected mosquito and can not be transmitted to another dog. If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and think you have the perfect forever home for me, complete an app and tell us more about you. May 28, 2024, 9:43 am

Story
Apply to Adopt Me! Winnie, aka Winnie Bear, is an approx. 7yo possible Basset Hound/Beagle mix. This sweet girl came to our rescue as an owner surrender to a shelter, depressed, severely obese at 46 lbs., could barely walk and her skin was a mess. Our vet determined, besides her obesity, she could possibly have a cruciate tear in her back right knee. Now, after 12 weeks of proper food, exercise including hydrotherapy, she not only walks but also runs. And she is on no pain meds. She is down to 38 lbs, with her ideal weight being around 32-33 lbs. Her skin has drastically improved and she’s now a happy girl. She loves following her people around the house, and can’t wait for belly rubs, but she especially enjoys basking in the sun or chilling in the shade, taking in all the smells, so for that reason we are requiring a fenced-in yard for her. She is not a digger. Winnie is currently in a home with small and larger dogs, as well as a cat and gets along great with all. She would also do well as the queen of her castle getting all the attention. She walks well on leash with short walks in the coolest part of the day with her short stubby legs, but be prepared for many stops to smell along the way. Her favorite toy is a Benebone or an antler, and she will also play with squeaky toys and rope toys; but plushies get destroyed in no time. She rides perfectly in a car and does well at bath time. Winnie is VERY treat motivated, knows “sit” command, is house trained, is not destructive, and sleeps in her bed beside her foster parents throughout the night. She has the hound dog “bay” which she excitedly sounds off while her meals are being prepared. Her perfect forever home will be one where her people have hound experience and continue to help her reach her weight loss goal - this is a must. She does need someone who is able to physically lift her since she can not get in and out of the car on her own. She requires an inexpensive thyroid pill once a day, as well as a daily Glucosamine Chondroitin supplement. Winnie is ready for her forever family, could that be you? If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and believe you are the perfect forever family for Winnie, please complete an app and tell us more about you. May 28, 2024, 9:43 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Duke is a very sweet dog, who needs a quiet household. It takes him a while to become acclimated to new people. He is currently in a foster home with a wonderful man who came to visit him here at the shelter multiple times to spend some time with him before he was ready to take him home. Duke is very happy in his home and loves to explore the yard. He has discovered that Duke does not like to be left alone for very long. He does not tear things up or destroy anything, he just gets nervous and shakes when he's alone for an extended period of time. We would like his permanent home to have someone home most of the time (work from home or retired) to keep him company during the day. Since he does not do well meeting new people he should not be walked in a busy community where strangers might want to come up and pet him. He will either need a backyard where he can safely run and play or live somewhere there is minimal walking traffic. Duke is a good dog and it is definitely worth the extra time it takes to get to know him :)  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 28, 2024, 9:21 am
