I am a goofy, lanky three-and-a-half-year-old hound dog that will be more than happy to inspect any suspicious leaves and do daily perimeter checks to make sure no squirrels are invading the yard. I am a little shy and timid sometimes, but I am the sweetest guy. I am a hound dog, so smells are important to me, but I LOVE attention even more. I will play, bow, and bounce for attention and treats, and everyone thinks I'm pretty cute. I love my toys, and I will show them off to you as well. I'm also handsome, so I'm not sure what else you're looking for in a guy. Towser is fixed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. He will start heartworm treatment when he arrives in NJ and will be available for adoption in late June. His adoption donation will be $500. - Adopting an animal is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy, and adopters should consider the costs, time, and training prior to adoption. After over four months in a North Carolina shelter, his world brightened when he finally got out—right before the shelter shut its doors. He’s lived through a lot: long days on cold concrete, pressure sores on his elbows, and the realization at his first vet visit that he’s not the young pup they thought, but an older gentleman with partial vision loss and arthritis in his back legs. Yet, despite everything, Float remains upbeat and friendly. He doesn’t let his partial blindness or creaky joints hold him back. He adapts quickly to new homes, might bump into a corner or two, but soon maps out his surroundings. Float gets along with everyone—strangers, kids, cats, and other dogs. He is a beautiful leash walker, wonderful in the car, is housetrained and would be a great hiking companion for someone! Duke is very affectionate and happy. He enjoys his family and, although he loves to be outdoors, he also enjoys a soft bed! Duke has very manageable resource guarding in a home environment- so will need an experienced adopter and a child-free home. Which is a shame because he loves children and is very gentle with them. He can go anywhere with you as he is very friendly and fun and is good with cats too! Duke would do best with another dog or dogs in a home with a fenced-in yard. He is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated.
