Story
Meet Moose - our Moose Man. Moose is a sweet, sensitive hound with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He bonds deeply with his people and truly wants to be part of everyday life. Moose is house trained, crate trained, and happiest when he is inside with his humans, soaking up attention and affection. True to his hound roots, Moose loves his walks and takes his sniffing responsibilities seriously. He is well behaved on leash, enjoys being out and about with his person, and is very expressive. Moose is a very vocal guy and needs a home where a talkative hound is not just tolerated, but appreciated. Moose is smart and enjoys learning. He knows sit, down, and shake, and responds well to treats and praise. He is affectionate, playful, and quick to return love, making him a really rewarding companion for someone who enjoys an interactive, engaged dog. Moose has been with Helpless Hounds since 02-24-2024- 696 days at the time of writing. He originally came to us under a unique situation where his owner intended to reclaim him, and we agreed that Moose had previously had a very good life. In the meantime, our rescue committed fully to keeping Moose safe, healthy, and happy while that possibility was explored. For nearly two years, all of Moose's care, food, boarding, and veterinary needs have been covered by Helpless Hounds, volunteers, and donations, with an entire fund we nicknamed "Moose Juice" created just for him. While we truly hoped for reunification, it ultimately was not possible. Now, we are ready to focus on what Moose needs most- a permanent, stable home where he can finally settle in and belong. Moose is fully vetted, neutered, and ready for adoption. He will do best with someone who has enough space for Moose to run around and no neighbors to complain about Moose's shouting for joy while he does it. Someone who enjoys daily walks, understands hounds, and has a home where a dog who is loud, loving, and full of personality can truly thrive. If you are looking for a loyal, affectionate friend and are ready to give Moose the forever home he has been waiting for, he is sooooo ready to meet you.

Story
His name is Gibson- but you can call him Gibby. Good Guy Gibby is a stunning coonhound with an extraordinary story that somehow keeps circling back to Helpless Hounds. He’s total character- He does well with dogs, is social with strangers, totally adores teens, but considers cats and chickens just too delicious to be friends with. He's smart, crate trained, house trained, eager to learn, and bonds easily with the people around him- but that's not all! What makes Gibby *especially* special is how connected he is to our rescue. This tale began nearly 2 years ago when Gibby was spotted running loose with his girlfriend, Goldie, but the duo disappeared before they could be rescued and relocated. When he eventually ended up at a local shelter as a stray, Helpless Hounds officially became part of his story. Soon after joining our program, the plot thickened- his girlfriend turned up! With puppies! A DNA test confirmed that Gibby is 51.5% Bluetick, 48.5% Treeing Walker Coonhound, and the proud father of ten puppies. Goldie and the puppies she arrived with are now Helpless Hounds alumni- with one pup infamously becoming a foster fail with our founder. All these twists and turns lead to one simple truth: Adopting Gibby doesn't just mean getting a dog- it means becoming part of a full fledged Helpless Hounds family tree. But of course, the tale continues: After 7 months in which he experienced everything from roaming to rescue, reunion to rejection, Gibby was thrilled to finally find a friend! We all hoped this was his happy ending, but unfortunately that chapter closed sooner than anyone anticipated. Now he has returned for Act 2: the part where our hero finally finds the redemption he deserves. Gibby dreams of a family of his very own- people who will meet his curiosity and energy with fun and engagement, but more importantly someone who sees him and is certain. His perfect place has room to run, tons of treats, spots to sniff, and a truckload of toys. When his adventures are all done, he's happy to crash on the couch and reap the rewards of being the best boy. In return, he'll offer lifelong loyalty, endless enthusiasm, charm, charisma, and mayyyybe some minor mischief. He's hoping for a home where he can truly thrive and experience his most exciting chapter yet- one filled with laughter, love, and all the little luxuries this (no longer Helpless) Hound deserves. Gibby's journey has been full of twists, turns, and lessons learned, and we just know the happy ending to his story is going to be one worth staying up for.

Story
Meet Duke. Duke arrived at Helpless Hounds on 07-12-2025 after spending most of his life living on the streets of Pauls Valley, OK. He was first seen in the area about seven years earlier, with kind people making sure he was fed and checked on, but he had never had a home or even set foot inside one until coming into rescue. Since then, Duke has shown that he is a big-hearted, people-loving dog who enjoys a good walk followed by a solid nap. He is equal parts playful and affectionate, and he has a way of winning people over once he has time to settle. During a recent boarding stay, staff described Duke as happy, talkative, and energetic. He settled in easily and did well with other dogs, including playful beagle-sized dogs and larger shepherds . His playful energy, gentle cuddles, and unique personality made him a favorite with staff during his stay. Duke does well with most other dogs in the home and has all the love to give to his people. He enjoys exploring on walks, soaking up attention, and then crashing for some well earned rest. At the time of writing (1/19/2026), Duke has been waiting 191 days since intake and has experienced several foster transitions. He is likely ready to stop moving around and finally have the chance to relax in a place that is his own. If you are looking for a loyal companion who is a little silly, very sweet, and ready to trade foster hopping for forever, Duke is ready.
