Story
Rusty is a 2 year, 57 pound, mixed breed (possibly Vizsla).  If ever there was a pup in need of a happy ever after, it's Rusty.  Why?  Check out his background below.  And for more pix and videos of Rusty, check out his post on our Website. Personality: friendly, affectionate, resilient, active, loves water, good in car Good with: people; will do best as only dog Training: knows basic commands such as "sit" and "no"; leash trained Estimated date of birth: September 2023 Weight: 57 pounds Medical: up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped Location: Currently located with a foster in Texas, but if adopted, will come to the NJ area on our next monthly transport. Background: This boy was the last dog to be pulled from the shelter's kill list.  Why? It certainly wasn't because he was a bad boy. Instead, it was because of his eye. He had a growth in his eye that was bloody and obscuring his vision. Others didn't want to risk taking on his vet bills, but we couldn't let this sweet soul be euthanized.  We got him to a vet and were able to have the growth surgically removed.  We then got the good news that the growth was not cancerous!!!  Yay for Rusty! But... Since then, Rusty has been with his foster, just waiting for someone to fall in love and take him home.  He gets along wonderfully with people; he has female friends, so we think he prefers females. He did well with males, but needs to meet first.  He's a higher-energy boy (who wouldn't be after regaining sight!) and would do great with an active family.  He's good on a leash and in the car.  He's already picked up on a few commands, such as 'sit,' and he understands 'no.' Rusty is more than ready to find his forever home and start a new chapter of life - one filled with love and happiness! Story
Franklin was found all alone on the streets, trying to rent the space under someone's house. The homeowners said it wasn’t for rent and Franklin, a 2 year old Viszla mix, had to come to the shelter to see if owners would come for him. Unfortunately, no one came. Now he is eager to 'own' a home and never have to worry about renting under a home again. Seriously, Franklin is the best boy! He is incredibly sweet, adores people, eagerly seeks their attention, and simply wants to be loved. He's still a little puppy-like, which just makes him even more adorable. He does not do well with cats. With some fun stuff to do and some good parents to guide him, he's gonna be amazing! Story
Meet Janet — a 7-month-old beauty with a sweet soul and a playful spark Janet is a lovely young pup with a gentle nature, bright eyes, and a heart full of love. At just seven months old, 28 lbs, she’s discovering the world and all the wonderful things it has to offer. She can be a little shy at first, but once she feels safe, Janet’s affectionate and playful personality truly comes to life. Based on her appearance, Janet looks like a mix of Vizsla and Whippet, which gives her a wonderful combination of elegance, intelligence, and athleticism. She enjoys spending time with her caregivers, soaking up affection, and engaging in playful moments with her furry friends. Thanks to the care she has received through our rescue partner, Janet has been growing and learning in a safe and supportive environment. This has helped her develop into a kind, gentle, and well-behaved young dog who is ready to continue thriving with a loving family. Janet gets along very well with other dogs and would likely enjoy having a friendly canine companion in her new home. A confident dog sibling could help her feel even more secure while providing a great playmate. She is also gentle with children and shows respectful curiosity around cats. She could also be happy as the only dog in a home with adopters who are committed to helping her build confidence through socialization and puppy classes. Janet is crate trained and currently working on her potty training. With a consistent routine, positive reinforcement, and a little patience, she will continue learning every day. We strongly encourage puppy classes for all puppies. These experiences will help Janet develop important skills while strengthening the bond with her future family. Janet is fully vetted: -spayed -microchipped -fully vaccinated -dewormed -4DX tested -on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention (Simparica) Janet has the chance to travel to New York in June, but she can only make the journey if a committed adopter or foster-to-adopt home is secured. If you’re searching for a loving, loyal companion who will grow into a wonderful member of your family, Janet may be the perfect match. To apply, please fill out an adoption application and email it to: sosanimalwelfare@gmail.com Janet is ready to begin the next chapter of her life — one filled with love, comfort, and a family to call her own❤️

Story
This is the story of Mack. Mack was born on 9/12/13 as part of a litter of 6. His Mom was a Vizsla/Hound mix and we have no idea who Dad was. He was the largest pup of the litter at birth. As the litter grew and was nursing on Mom, we quickly learned that she was giardia positive (an intestinal parasite). It was an unfortunate circumstance since we were certain she was passing it on to the pups. Since they were so young when they started showing signs of suffering from this parasite, there wasn’t much we could do other than wait for them to get to an age when we could treat it. One by one, they fell ill and then re-cooperated once treatment started. Mack on the other hand, did not seem to bounce back like the others. In fact, he fell ill with this parasite more than once in his puppyhood. We treated him each time and suffered with him during his periods of dehydration, not eating, and just feeling yucky. More than once, we had to force feed him for more than a week. He had no energy. We were giving him fluids three times a day just to keep him alive. There was a point where we did not think he would make it for certain. But we weren’t giving up on him. I think he knew that, and this caused him to hang in there with us no matter how bad he felt. At 10wks, he weighed only 4.8lbs when his siblings were in the 10-12lb range. Because the parasite took every bit of nutrition we were force feeding him, he was way behind in growth & development. When he finally turned the corner and started eating on his own, he was unstoppable. He would eat every 2 hrs and simply couldn’t get enough. We were elated! At 15wks, he was only about 2/3rds the size of his siblings, but he’d eat like a horse and we’d pump him up with vitamins every day. As you can see from his pictures, he is certainly 1 happy pup to be alive! UPDATE: We have now found it necessary to list Mack as a "Special Needs" adopt. After an oral exam, the vet determined that since he was sick for so long during puppyhood, he will need a yearly dental examination. The enamel on his teeth is not as strong as it should be and is chipping off. We've been told that there is nothing to do about it at this time other than give him soaked kibble as meals. He also cannot have any hard treats or toys as that will only promote the chipping of the enamel. He seems very happy and spoiled about this and is healthy as can be at about 55lbs now as an adult :) Our adoption fee is $325 and all of our pets come with full vet records. All animals are up to date on vaccinations & dewormed. Unless otherwise indicated, puppies are NOT spayed or neutered since our vet recommends waiting until 6mos of age to do so. Please keep in mind we are a Rescue Group and most of our pups come to us with little or no background info regarding breed, eventual size, age or prior health issues. We rely on the expertise of our veterinarians and make estimates based on past experience. Also, when you're adopting from a Rescue, you should ask questions! You should always get shot/medication records and the rescue should have had the dog for a bit of time to check for disease. Take the time to educate yourself before adopting. A reputable rescue will have nothing to hide and will answer ALL your questions!!! Please visit our Web Site to see all of the pets we have for adoption. Our site contains information about our adoption process and fees, our application, and answers to frequently asked questions. Please read it carefully before contacting us. If you are interested in adopting THIS wonderful pet, we strongly encourage you to complete our adoption application now. Once we receive and approve your application, we will notify you of approval. The first application to be received and approved will get 1st choice - be sure that your references are available and willing to speak with us. Thank You Visit us at one of our next adoption days. She truly is a pack dog and gains confidence surrounded by others. Good with all sizes, breeds. Lila has bonded with her foster sister Missy and would do well if they could be adopted together.
