Hola friends, My name is Jack, and I have recently traveled on a bus from a Jalisco Mexico dog rescue to San Antonio Texas to stay with a foster and then find a forever home somewhere in or near Connecticut. I’m now living in a foster home with my foster parents, and 2 small senior resident dogs, and I have settled in nicely, making friends with everyone immediately. My Mexico vet records say I am a Chihuahua mix but I appear to be mixed with Whippet and Basenji. I am about 3 years old, 13 lbs, slender and leggy, agile and graceful, I have a Whippet physique, a Basenji wrinkled forehead, and I do not bark. I make whiny noises sometimes, but mostly just silent, and I can run like the wind and jump very high as if I have springs in my legs. I am very unique for sure, an easygoing and gentle boy mostly looking for love and snuggles, but I also love to play and have doggy friends. I love the outdoors, relaxing on the patio on a pretty day, running zoomies around the yard, and watching for squirrels jumping through the oak trees where I’m staying. I am social, love my people, and love curling up beside you or on you, or snuggling with a doggy friend for a nap. I walk very nicely and gently on a leash, sometimes requiring a bit of encouragement to continue walking, but I never fuss and I am eager to please and I love being praised. At bedtime, I sleep quietly in a soft-sided kennel, all cozy in a dog bed and blanket, but I would be thrilled to sleep beside you. Next up, another road trip, this time to Connecticut, and instead of a bus I’ll be riding in a Mercedes transport van. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. MYRTLE was saved from being shot on the streets of Oman by an amazing organization Muscat Dog Adoption. She along with her 7 friends were flown into JFK where they were cleared the CDC and then picked up and transported back to Give a Dog a Home Rescue, in Sebec, Maine on 5 April 2024 Myrtle is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, monthly preventatives, heartworm and tick disease tested negative and is microchipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 2 July 2022 and at the time of transport weighed around 30 pounds. Mixed breed dogs in Oman are referred to as Omani Wadi Dogs, with most of them being Saluki mixes. Myrtle is a sweet, gentle, affectionate girl who weighs just 30 pounds but do not let her slight frame fool you. When she is familiar in her surroundings, she is confident and loves to keep her fellow Omani kennel mates in check. She is very loving and takes treats very gently after she has checked it out for 10 minutes to be sure you are not trying to poison her lol. She is good with other dogs, but can be choosy who she wants to share with, not in an aggressive way at all but she knows who she wants to be friends. She is smart, loving affectionate and will need an active life and a family that understands the need of the sighthound and be able to provide the lifestyle that she needs and deserves. We take a lot of pictures and videos and don't always have the time to post them on the dogs individual webpage and adoption site, so we ask that you go to the rescue    YouTube channel    and    photo albums on our Facebook page   to see a LOT of pictures and videos. We are looking for families that have the lifestyle that the dog needs to lead a healthy, both mentally and physically life, who can afford a GOOD quality food, toys and treats and understand the importance of veterinary wellness checks. Myrtle is located at the rescue in Sebec Maine and is available for a reduced adoption fee of $550. Interested families are required to complete our application process and once approved schedule an appointment to come to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Meet Hazel, a gorgeous one-year-old, 42 lb. whippet/hound mix (our best guess anyway) with the most stunning coat and golden eyes. This sweet girl was recently abandoned by her former owner and dumped at the shelter after hours. They left Hazel in a yard that only had a four-foot-high fence, mere steps away from a busy highway. The reason? She was the youngest dog they had and her owner “didn’t have time for her.” As expected, Hazel was very sad and confused in the shelter so we wanted to give her a second chance at finding happiness and rescued her. Despite everything that she has been through, Hazel is super sweet and has a happy-go-lucky personality. She absolutely LOVES head scratches, pets, cuddles, and will show/tell you when she wants her chest or tummy rubbed. Hazel is also known to give kisses to show how much she loves and appreciates you. Squeaky toys are her favorite and she loves her playtime. She is a curious girl who loves to take in her surroundings while outside on walks. In Hazel’s former home, she lived with other dogs and children so she will make a great family dog, although she tends to prefer women. She’s very smart and highly food-motivated, making her a fast learner. She walks well on leash and is working hard on housetraining. A home with a fenced yard is a must and someone home often is preferable. We can’t change Hazel’s past, but we most certainly will ensure her future is nothing but one filled with the love that she deserves. Her adoption fee is $400 and Hazel is vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative, and spayed.
