Story
Adoption Fee: $475 When available, all animals are fixed in accordance with Colorado law, up to date on vaccines (may need boosters), and microchipped! What we know: Litter was transferred to Colorado Puppy Rescue from Furever Friends of Grant County (Kansas). Per partner notes, the puppies originated from a hoarding situation in Oklahoma involving 13 dogs total in the home. CPR took 12 dogs from the situation, with 1 dog placed elsewhere. From the foster: Meet Minnie: A Brave Little Heart Learning to Trust At just one year old, Minnie has already been through more than any puppy should. But beneath her cautious nature is a truly sweet girl who is slowly discovering that the world can be a safe and loving place. Minnie is looking for a special adopter—someone patient, kind, and willing to help her continue building confidence as she learns what it means to be a cherished family member. Minnie likes people, but she prefers to get to know them on her own terms. Being cornered makes her nervous, and if she feels overwhelmed she’ll choose to run the other way. But when she feels safe and in control of the situation, her gentle side shines. She’ll quietly approach for pets and reward you with the sweetest appreciative licks. Once Minnie trusts you, she loves being close when you’re in what she considers the “least threatening positions”—lounging on the couch or relaxing in bed. That’s when she’ll inch closer and politely request head, ear, and back scratches (she’s still deciding how she feels about tummy rubs). Because of her past, Minnie has learned to defend herself when she feels trapped or scared, so she needs an adopter who understands dog body language and will continue helping her feel secure. With patience and consistency, she has every chance to grow into the confident dog she’s meant to be. Minnie is also a bit of a private lady when it comes to meals—she prefers to eat when her foster is in another room or isn’t home. A little personal dining space suits her just fine. Like many young pups, Minnie is still working on some life skills. She’s making progress with potty training, though she still has daily accidents. She’s also learning that walks on a leash aren’t so scary and is getting a little braver each day. When it comes to playtime, Minnie’s curious puppy personality really shows. She loves chew toys, investigating the mysterious insides of tennis balls, and occasionally conducting “scientific research” on what might be hiding inside a dog bed. As she settles in and feels more comfortable, her foster thinks she’s simply testing boundaries like the young dog she is. Minnie’s absolute favorite thing in the world? Other dogs. She lights up around them and has done wonderfully with every dog she has met—even those more than twice her size. She enjoys sharing toys, spending her days napping alongside her canine friends, and participating in the adorable nightly ritual of dog-to-dog face grooming. Minnie happily receives affectionate licks and returns them with enthusiasm. At night, Minnie sleeps soundly in her crate, though she currently needs a little help getting settled inside. Minnie would do best in a calm, stable home with minimal foot traffic, no young children, and ideally at least one friendly dog companion to help show her the ropes. What she needs most is someone who can see past the baggage she carries and recognize the wonderful dog she truly is. With love, patience, understanding, and continued training, Minnie will have the chance to finally experience the happy puppy life she deserves. And for the person willing to give her that chance, the reward will be watching a brave little dog blossom into the loyal, loving companion she was always meant to be. 💛 www.coloradopuppy.org/how-to-adopt
