Story
Dale is a fun, sociable, peppy little girl who plays hard and loves her people. Someone gave Dale to a young woman who lived with her parents. When her parents said no to the puppy a visiting community health worker, who just happens to be a PUP volunteer, agreed to take the puppy and care for her until we could transport her to Saint Paul and her new life as a city pup. We are making a lot of guesses about Dale. We have no idea who mommy or daddy are and we are guessing at how old she is. The vet aged her at 12 weeks on January 12. She is a short stocky little kid with a scruffy face and wiry hair. We are guessing at breed here and think she could be a wire hair terrier X, which is unusual for the area she comes from. Dogs from the area who have DNA testing often have 20 or more breeds and they nearly always have some shepherd, husky, cattle dog, Aussie, and even the largest pooches have a bit of Chihuahua. We estimate that Dale will be a mid-sized dog when full grown. But her people should be prepared to love her if she is larger or smaller than predicted. Dale is a hard player with other dogs and appears to have a bit of a Napoleon complex. She expects to end up with good toys. She has not challenged the authority of the adult dog in the foster home, but she rules the roost with the other puppies. She is making good headway on house breaking but she is not there quite yet. In her foster home she is using papers during the work day and at night and is taken outside regularly. She knows is going out to take care of business AND play. The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog. Puppy has been vet checked, is vaccinated and de-wormed. She will need two additional puppy vaccinations plus rabies at the adopter’s expense. We do place puppies outside the metro area if a firm plan for the alter surgery is in place; we do not ship. Her required alter surgery is covered by the adoption fee if it is done at 6 months at the PUP clinic. We require that she be altered at 6 months. If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. We are pretty slow at responding to e-mail. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested.

Patches’ story begins in heartbreak—but it quickly turns into one filled with hope, joy, and endless love. As a tiny puppy, Patches was found dumped in a flooded ditch in Western Louisiana along with her littermates. They were starving, neglected, and covered in fleas, left in conditions no puppy should ever face. Yet even in those frightening early days, Patches showed a spark of resilience and a gentle spirit that refused to be dimmed. Now just 10 months old and weighing around 30 pounds, Patches has blossomed into a happy, healthy hound mix with so much love to give. She is fully vaccinated, spayed, and heartworm negative—ready for a bright future. She’s housebroken, walks nicely on a leash, and gets along great with other dogs. Patches adores people of all ages, but she has a special soft spot for kids, greeting everyone with a wagging tail and an open heart. Patches is a smart girl who loves to learn and thrives on companionship. She’s incredibly friendly, affectionate, and full of that joyful puppy energy that makes every day a little brighter. Whether she’s trotting happily by your side on a walk or curling up for cuddles, Patches reminds you how powerful love and second chances can be. From a flooded ditch to a hopeful tomorrow, Patches has overcome so much in her short life. All she needs now is a forever family to call her own—one who will cherish her the way she has always deserved.
