Story
Mickey is appropriately 7-8 years old Yorkie. A few months ago, he was unfortunately hit by a car, and the owners relinquished him to animal control in hopes he would find a rescue that would provide him with the necessary medical care he needed to recover. After a massive surgery by a specialized surgeon, his pelvic area was pieced back together. His foster mom took the best care of him during this time and has done amazing work with him to help rehabilitate.  Mickey craves attention like any Yorkie. He loves sharing a favorite chair or sofa and snuggles. He is great with people, but he isn’t kid tested. Because he is still unsteady on his feet and will be healing and strengthening for a while, homes need to not have young children or rambunctious dogs, because he could easily be trampled and injured. Short walks and an easy, cozy life is what this pup needs for his future. He loves toys and to play tug. Mickey is sensitive to unknown sounds and will bark at them. Unknown sounds could be a whistling teapot, sandhill cranes, gun shots (he is being fostered in the country), etc. He has a big voice for such a small fellow, so no attached style living for him. Mickey gets along well with other small dogs, playing with them, sharing his bed and their companionship. Cats are not a good fit for Mickey's future home, because he is quite persistent and annoying to them, and even a swat doesn’t deter him.  Mickey is fostered in Myakka City, FL, and his fee is $350. He's fully vetted and ready to go.  No airplane trips for this guy, he must go home by way of riding.    Emails generated from Adopt a Pet or Petfinder will NOT be returned. Story
Meet Loveable Loki! Loki is a 7-year-old yorkie mix who weighs 15 lbs. This super handsome gray and white boy has fur as soft and luxurious as silk. Best of all, Loki's soft fur does not shed, so you can keep wearing your black clothes! Loki was surrendered to Critter Cavalry because his owner could no longer afford to care for him after moving from Florida to Tennessee. Unfortunately, Loki developed allergies and needed daily medication. Since joining Critter Cavalry, he has seen a dermatologist, and it turns out he does have allergies. Thankfully, these are now well-managed with quality food, one pill, and regular grooming. His last grooming appointment showed no signs of allergies at all, and a change of location from Tennessee should also help. You won’t find a more lovable companion than Loki. He greets everyone with enthusiasm and will happily leap into the lap of anyone sitting down. He simply wants to be near you, whether on the couch or in your chair. Make sure there’s always room for him at night, as he’ll snuggle up close before you know it. Loki also adores the company of other small dogs and thrives in a home with multiple pets; he definitely is not a lone ranger! He is housebroken and can be left loose in the house. While he isn’t a fan of car rides, he loves going for walks and happily trots ahead of you down the street. Loki thrives on routine and organization, making him an excellent companion for a middle-aged couple with one or two other dogs. Although he hasn’t been around children, he should do well with kids over 8 who understand how to treat pets properly. Loki is neutered, up-to-date on all his vaccinations, and microchipped. If you would like to be considered for Loki's forever family and request an adoption application, please contact Vivienne at vivienneajames@gmail.com. Note that an approved application and adoption fee are required.June 7, 2025, 12:30 pm

Story
For inquiries email eabriggs@aol.com Fee: $400 Location: Chesapeake, VA Somer is a small, senior yorkie who came to us from the Norfolk Animal Care Center. She is about 12 years old and weighs about 10 pounds. Somer is an independent little lady. She loves a senior snooze in the sunlight and snuggling with her foster mom at night. She is a good eater and loves to roll around in the grass, and loves car rides. She is a great little traveler. Somer came to us with a horrible case of kennel cough and very bad dental disease. She has since recovered from the kennel cough and had a dental cleaning with extractions. She enjoys eating, sleeping and romps in the grass. She will do best in a patient home (due to hearing loss) without young children. Yorkies are not know to be tolerant of small children. Somer is very tolerant of the resident dogs in her foster home but would be fine as an only dog too. She has decided she is the BOSS! Somer has been through a lot and does, at times, struggle with a cough when the weather changes abruptly, the pollen count is high or when it is extremely hot outside (as it has been lately). We suggest keeping cough syrup (prescribed by the vet) on hand to lessen the chance she gets an irritated trachea when coughing is noticed. Somer has now been diagnosed with collapsing trachea (CT) (as of 7/5/2025) and will remain on cough syrup indefinitely. The cost is minimal and most likely filled once a month for less than $30 on average. Most small and toy breed dogs suffer with collapsing trachea in their lifetime. CT can be managed with homeopathic remedies as well as with cough suppressants, anti-anxiety medications, corticosteroids and bronchodilators. If an infection occurs antibiotics will most likely be prescribed. Many small dogs are diagnosed with CT in their lifetime but they can still live a full life Somer is a tough little lady. She is living her best life and is ready for adoption now! Read more about collapsing trachea (CT)HERE   Please follow us on social media for the most up to date photos and information. Story
For inquiries email jonna@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $600 Location: Manassas, VA Johnny Cash came to us from a shelter in Suffolk, Virginia. He was a stray estimated to be about 2 years old. He is a yorkie mix and weighs about 9 pounds. Johnny Cash was initially fearful of men but has since grown to LOVE his foster dad and is much more accepting of men. In foster care, he has learned the world is a safe place and people do not want to hurt him. Fostering these dogs like Johnny Cash gives them a opportunity to reveal their true personality and the greatest chance at a home best suited to their needs. (Apply to foster HERE - yes that is a shameless plug to help save a dog's life) Johnny Cash was in pretty bad shape when he entered our care. He was underweight, his coat was a mess and he had a serious case of kennel cough. His anal glands were also infected as a result of his lack of grooming and care while being stray. He was stressed and in pain. It seems he had been a stray for a while. Johnny Cash seen by our vet, neutered and treated for kennel cough, and anal gland infection. After decompressing and healing, he has been a ball of energy. He loves to run and play in the yard. He loves to find a good stick and tease his foster siblings with it. He loves a good game of chase too. He is one fast little dude. He doesn't let anything stop him from living his best life. Johnny Cash is part yorkie and will need monthly grooming for his coat and anal gland expression maintenance to keep the infection from returning. We have found a routine appointment about every 4 weeks does the trick. We don't ever want him to experience the pain of an anal gland infection again. So far, Johnny Cash seems like a happy go lucky little boy. He is young and full of energy. He is up to date on vaccines, neutered and microchipped. His perfect home would have a fenced yard, another playful dog, and someone home most of the day. He likes to pretend he is in charge and will let his needs be known. Like most small dogs, he may not be a good fit for a home with children. But, he has not been tested with small children under 10 years old. He is house trained, sleeps through the night and a good eater. He could benefit from a manners class to build confidence and leash skills but in the right hands he will learn these things with consistency. Johnny Cash is ready for his new home. Apply now to adopt this sassy, fluffy little love bug! Your life will be full of fun and adventures with this little guy. MEDICAL INFORMATION: When Johnny Cash came to us from the shelter he had a severe case of kennel cough requiring fairly aggressive treatment. After the initial treatment, he continued to have issues with a cough. We followed up with his vet for treatment and diagnosis. Johnny Cash was then diagnosed with collapsing trachea (CT). Most small breed dogs will have a degree of collapsing trachea in their lifetime. CT can be managed by your local veterinarian with medication such as corticosteroids, anxiety medications, cough syrup and homeopathic remedies but it should be monitored carefully to prevent crisis. If an upper respiratory infection occurs antibiotics will likely be prescribed. CT is manageable and dogs can live active, full lives with proper monitoring and treatment. You can read more about collapsing trachea HERE. Please follow us on social media for the most up to date photos and information.
