My name is Hachi, and Im an eight-year-old Akita mix with a heart thats both tender and fiercely loyal once I know youre truly mine. When we first meet, I might hang back a little and take my time deciding if youre someone I can trust. Akitas are thoughtful like that, and Im no exception. But give me a moment to breathe, let me read your energy, and youll see my whole world soften. Once I choose you, I choose you completely. Ive lived long enough to know what I like, and Im hoping to find a family who understands the unique quirks that come with being an Akita. Im a golden girl now, so I appreciate a calm home where I can relax without too much chaos. Id prefer to be your one and only pet, not because I dont appreciate other animals, but because I feel safest when I dont have to share my space. Older kids-twelve and up-are just right for me, especially those who know how to move gently and respectfully around a dog who values her boundaries. Since my joints arent as spry as they used to be, a home with minimal stairs would make my days much more comfortable. I still enjoy strolls, fresh air, and being near my people, but Im happiest when I can settle in a cozy spot and simply exist beside someone who loves me. If youre an Akita-savvy family looking for a devoted companion who will stand by you with quiet strength and unwavering loyalty, Im ready to meet you. PLEASE READ BIOGRAPHY BEFORE APPLYING Meet Quill, he is a 4-6 year old Husky/Akita Mix who came to us after spending most of his life on a chain. He has loved getting to live life to the fullest since coming to our rescue and enjoys his daily walks and runs and playing fetch in the yard with staff. Quill has warmed up well to the staff here at KC PAWS and has particularly bonded with the manager there, it is clear that once he is bonded and trust someone he is a friendly and affectionate dog. However due to his past he sometimes is weary of strangers approaching him. He is not the type of dog that would like being in large crowds or having strangers come up to pet him during walks. He will also need his potential adopter to be willing to do multiple visits with him before adoption. Quill has met a few female dogs that he has gotten along well with, however he does not like to interact with other male dogs especially if they are his size or larger. He would do best with a female dog around his size. He does need a home with no small dogs, or cats. He would not be an appropriate fit for a home with children as he does not like for people to be in his face leaning over him and children on his level would be frightening for him. Quill is a very active, high energy dog and LOVES to run. He would be an excellent match for someone looking for a running, hiking, adventure buddy. Quill is kennel trained and keeps his run at the shelter clean. He also loves to go for car rides. Quill needs an experienced dog owner who will be willing to really work on training and socializing. He is not an appropriate fit for a first time dog owner or someone who has no previous training experience.

After her owner became incarcerated, Ali came into our care alongside her sisters — who have all since found their forever homes. Now it’s Ali’s turn! Ali has really started to come out of her shell and show her true personality. She’s incredibly sweet, calm, and loving, and once she feels comfortable, she’ll even give you the softest little kisses. She can be a bit shy when first meeting new people, but with a little patience, she warms up beautifully. She is very social with other dogs and currently lives peacefully with a cat. Ali is fully potty trained and is learning her basic commands — she’s already working on “sit” and is very treat motivated. She’s a smart girl who enjoys having something to do, especially if it involves a good chew bone. Ali loves spending time outside and will happily run around the backyard, taking it all in. She’s also been making great progress with car rides and is becoming much more comfortable on the go. Because of her timid nature, Ali can be a bit of a flight risk and has slipped out of a leash before, so she will need a secure setup and an adopter who is mindful and patient during transitions and walks. Ali is a wonderful, sensitive girl who just needs a little time, consistency, and love to fully blossom.
