Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. You MUST complete a Best Friend Pet Adoption application if you are interested in Tesla.  Please fill out our dog adoption application by copying and pasting this link in a new browser window:   https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC     Tesla (Tes) is an exuberant, friendly girl with lots of personality. She is roughly 4-5 years old, ~65lbs and appears to be a Husky, Shepherd, possibly Carolina Dog mix - whatever mix she is - she is absolutely beautiful, especially with her stunning blue eyes!   Tes is housebroken/crate trained and is normally crated when no one is home. She has been left for 8 hours during work days with no potty issues. She needs a large crate (42" - 48") as she likes to sprawl wide open and sleeps belly up in some of the cutest positions. She usually sleeps in her crate at night, but has done well sleeping out overnight and enjoys snuggling up on the couch. Tes wouldn't be suitable in an apartment and would do best with a fenced yard. She can be vocal at times and will definitely alert you that someone/something is at the door or yard. She does fine with the 4ft chain link at her foster home.   Tesla has medium-high energy. Since she's been settled in her foster home, she doesn't require a ton of exercise, but does need daily physical simulation/lots of outdoor time for her to explore - she likes to entertain herself with a ball/toy. Tes would do just fine as an only dog or with a well matched neutered male - similar to her size and play style. She prefers a dog that she can run around with for a few minutes then she likes to hang outside and sunbathe (on cooler days). She doesn't like a dog that is too overwhelming with excitement or that inappropriately invades her space.   Tesla will do best with a confident handler that is calm, consistent and provides guidance. She can be visually excited on walks, but she redirects easy with verbal or treat praise. She may need a few reminders to walk with manners, and once she knows you're not going to allow her to pull with excitement, she walks wonderfully. She is very smart, occasionally stubborn, but when you follow through with what you ask her to do, she is respectful and eager to please. She is food motivated and knows basic commands (sit, down & come) and waits patiently for her meals.   Tes has been observed with children twice and did well. Older children (8+) probably better than youngsters since she is larger and easily excitable. In previous foster homes, she has done ok with confident "dog-friendly" cats. If a kitty is shy and runs, the chase may be too fun. Slow and appropriate kitty introductions are highly recommended to create a successful relationship.   EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Tesla was picked up as a stray by animal control after she was hit by car. She had a fractured pelvis that was able to heal on its own. She has been waiting over a year to find a home to call her own, please consider meeting her! She would love to meet you!!   Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.    We prefer that applicants live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore prefer applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC. We will consider applicants who live further away if we  feel the home is right for this sweet girl.    INTERESTED IN ADOPTING TESLA ? Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online Adoption Application › Kino is not your boxed wine kinda guy. Anyone can be shopping for taco ingredients, bread, orange juice, and coffee when they happen to stumble into the beer and wine aisle of the grocery store, and think "hey, this looks like a good deal." It takes someone with an understanding of wine to choose just the right bottle for the occasion. Kino, much like a good vino, is a dog that needs to be appreciated by someone who understands the many layers and complexities of the Husky breed. They are generally very friendly. They love to hold conversations and discuss important topics like "who's a good boy?" and "are you a good boy?" They are extremely smart which leads them to do extremely stupid things. "Hold my chew toy and watch this." They are very assertive dogs who will NOT be ignored... even when they're pretending you can't see them doing something naughty. They need exercise, physical and mental. A daily walk and something that exercises their mind is key to keeping them from being bored. If you're up for owning a dog who needs a constant reminder that they don't own you, Kino just might be your guy. Kino is good with other dogs who aren't dominant or ill tempered. He gets too excited around kids and lots of commotion and would do best in a mature, adult only home with someone who can maintain his training. Kino received training from Jeff Coltenback and comes with lifetime support from him. Kino (in typical Husky fashion) likes to explore the world and make demands with his mouth. His training focused on teaching him what's appropriate and what isn't. Keeping up with this is important to keep him out of trouble. Kino's absolute favorite thing is being petted. He will insist you keep going when you stop, and resort to lots of licking and kissing until you start petting him again. His second favorite thing is treats. Kino is appx 7-9 years old. He's crate trained, house trained once he gets used to a schedule, neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online Adoption Application › Meet sweet Tatum, she came from Lenoir County where she was extremely neglected and abused.  When she was found she was suffering from heat stroke. She will need a family with husky experience,  time and patience to help her become the dog she deserves to be.  Tatum has the added benefit of several weeks of training by Jeff Coltenback and he says shes a sweet girl! Here's what Jeff has to say about her: Tatum has a good obedience foundation. She currently is not in training so she's a little rusty. She is crate trained and appears to be housetrained. She ignores his chickens but she has not been tested with cats. She is dog friendly but prefers male dogs. She has 'a joyful energy' that will brighten your day. She is very sweet and affectionate and loves hikes and walks. She LOVES to chew toys and is relatively quiet for a husky (not silent though)! She is good for her ear cleanings and her grooming.  Please consider giving this girl a forever home! She is sure to brighten your day! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online Adoption Application › Hi, I'm Aria. I was just out living the good life with my sister Tia when I suddenly found myself preparing for more mouths to feed and the forage diet really wasn't my cup of tea.  When i arrived, I was very skittsh and still am at times, but have learned to trust my foster mom most of the time, who assisted me when I gave birth to my 9 beautiful babies on June 20, 2023.  Now that they've all been adopted, it's time for me to find a furever home.   I was underweight when I was picked up, not to mention, raising 9 babies was exhausting. Now I’ve gotten to a healthy weight and am feeling good.  I like to play with my doggie friends here and need to have a home with other easy going dogs and a family that's willing to be patient with me while I settle in.  Highly food motivated. I take medication easily as long as it's in food and it's the time I'm most likely to come up to you.   I like my crate; it makes me feel safe.  As long as I go outside regularly, I won't have accidents inside.  I need a tall, fenced yard with a secure border because I am a husky after all.  My coat is starting to grow back in fuller now.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 26, 2024, 5:10 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online Adoption Application › Mac’s Bio Meet Mac! Mac was seized from a rural property after being tied to a tree with no shelter or fresh water for two years. He is a big, Husky mix weighing in at 80-90 lbs, but don’t let that scare you! He’s a big softy who loves hugs and cuddles, and just wants to be with you all the time. Bonus points if you have lots of toys!! Mac loves other dogs, but will just need a slow introduction as he is high energy when he meets them, and he will need to go to a home with no cats. People failed Mac, and we are slowly showing him that not all people are like that. Mac is looking for a home that will provide him with all the love and patience that he never had at the beginning of life! It is preferred that Mac go to a home with Husky experience.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 26, 2024, 5:10 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online Adoption Application › Sakari is a beautiful girl with a gentle soul. Sadly we believe she did not always know the better side of humans. She was likely fed and bred at best and otherwise left to fend for herself outdoors. She did not receive medical care or affection with any sort of regularity. Fortunately, Sakari has a clean bill of health. Huskies need lots of exercise and Sakari is no exception.  Sakari will need love and patience and someone familiar with the husky breed.  She skirts away from you until she trusts you and at times you may feel like you’re doing a two steps forward, one step back kinda dance. On the flip side, once she knows you she will come to you for pets and belly rubs. She’s a sucker for hot dogs and chicken. She is potty trained and not destructive. When you see her play and show her fun side, you’ll smile from ear to ear. I promise you, if given the chance to figure out a life with love she will thrive. Even more, she’s worth the effort.  Sakari does well with other dogs her size, but absolutely no cats. To apply for adoption visit: https://www.pawfectmatch.org/info/adoptionVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 26, 2024, 5:10 pm
