Story
https://foha.org/pet/kai2024/ ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Hi, I’m Kai — a one-year-old Shepherd mix with soulful eyes, a gentle heart, and a deep love for people I trust. I may be shy at first, but once we’ve had a proper sniff and a quiet introduction, I’ll be nudging your hand for more pets and offering you my full attention. I thrive in calm, structured environments and enjoy having a job to do—whether it’s chasing a tennis ball, walking by your side, or lounging after a fun play session. I walk well on leash, I’m athletic (hello, hops!), and I absolutely love fetch. Sometimes I’ll even drop the ball right into your hand. While I’m still working on my confidence and consistency with housetraining, I’m incredibly eager to learn and bond. I do best with patient humans who are home often and willing to work with me through some anxiety and a few quirks that make me, well, uniquely Kai. HOW AM I WITH DOGS: I’m dog-selective. I do best with respectful, friendly female dogs who give me space and good vibes. With the right match and a slow intro, I can enjoy doggy companionship. HOW AM I WITH CATS: Unknown, but given my interest in small animals and birds, I would likely do best in a cat-free home. HOW AM I WITH KIDS: I’m very fearful around children and feel safest in an adult-only home. I KNOW THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS: Fetch champion! I’m working on basic commands and eager to learn more with positive training. MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: I’ve had some challenges with potty training and am not currently crate trained, but I do well with structure and routine. FOHA can offer guidance and support to help me adjust. THINGS I LIKE: Fetch • Quiet walks • Exploring with dog buddies • Treats • Sniffing games • Calm voices • Building trust with “my” people THINGS I DISLIKE: Loud or fast-paced environments • Being left alone for long periods • Small animals • Sudden introductions or crowds FOHA ADOPTION POLICIES AND PROCESS: https://foha.org/pet-adoption/adoption-policies ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: Spay/neuter, vaccines (rabies, distemper & Bordetella), 1-month access to Petcademy for training and behavior support, slip lead leash, 1 bag of starter food, 1-month flea/tick & heartworm preventatives, diagnostic testing, and any additional medical care recommended by our vet.

NEED FOSTER HOME FOR ONE OF THE MIXED PUPPIES FROM KIKKI'S STAR WARS LITTER!! Meet Hera, a loving, energetic companion looking for a foster or forever home. Hera is a charming dog with a heart full of loyalty and affection. She can be shy upon initially meeting someone, but adapts quickly. Once comfortable, her playful spirit and boundless energy shine through. Hera enjoys walks and is currently building confidence on leash. She has been fostered in a multi-animal home and gets along with other dogs very well. She sometimes needs a reminder to give the cats some space. She is potty trained as well as crate trained although she can be anxious when left alone at times. A calm, male companion would be ideal for her. Her foster home is currently working on basic training, including some tricks. She is very smart but can be stubborn. You will need some creativity to keep her engaged while training. Several short sessions as opposed to a long one. If you are looking for a devoted friend who will bring joy and enthusiasm into your life, Hera might be a match. Her lovable personality would ensure her becoming a cherished part of your family!! She is very smart and needs an owner who will engage her brain: obedience, fast cat, agility.  Prefer owners with some previous experience with dogs.  She will be spayed prior to placement.  See more pix and video at https://www.facebook.com/akitarescue.org/Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 10, 2025, 8:47 am

Story
Meet Theresa, a beautiful 3-year-old Akita with a quiet elegance and a gentle heart. She came to us as a stray, and while her past is a bit of a mystery, her personality is slowly shining through. Theresa is friendly and affectionate with people she knows and trusts. New situations can be a little overwhelming for her—she can be nervous around loud noises and is still learning to feel comfortable walking on a leash. With patience, consistency, and reassurance, she continues to make progress every day. Because of her sensitive nature, Theresa would do best in a calm home with someone who has Akita experience and understands the value of going at her pace. Given time to settle in and feel secure, she has the potential to be a deeply loyal and loving companion. If you’re looking for a graceful soul who just needs patience and understanding to truly blossom, Theresa may be the perfect match. Theresa currently weighs 86 pounds. If you are interested in meeting Theresa, please visit the shelter during our open hours; Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri 10a-12:30p & 2p-4p, Thurs 10a-12:30p & 2p-6:30p, and Saturday 9a-1p. Adoption application can be filled out and approved during your meet-and-greet. If you have another dog in the home, plan to bring them for a meet before you complete the adoption!
