Lumi is a 5 year old malamute. She knows to sit, shake, lay down, make eye contact if you say hey. She likes to snuggle and be petted. She has not been in direct contact with any dogs for several years. She seems to do ok with adults and bigger kids. She was startled and but my 5yo on the face lightly several years ago. She once got out and squished the neighbors dog and broke its leg. She was maybe trying to play as she didn’t bite or otherwise hurt it but I’m not sure. Since then I have kept her away from the kids and other dogs. I think she is a good dog, I’m just afraid to train her so she spends her time in the backyard alone mostly. Just seeing if there is a better person out there for her than me, if not we will keep doing what we are doing.

Say hey to sweet gal Lyta! Lyta is an H.S.F.C. alumni that is seeking her forever home! We believe she was born in September of 2017, and would do well with most ages. When Lyta first came to us, she was found as a stray that was never claimed. Lyta is a very gentle soul that loves people, being brushed, and going for walks. Her breed is known for being "runners" and Lyta is not the exception! She needs to be leashed or in a fenced area or she will take herself for a long stroll! According to her former foster papa, she does very well with not going potty inside, they typically walk 5 miles a day, and Lyta still wants to be outside and active after. Lyta is looking for a very active family, as the only pet in her home, and she does not like being left alone, so a multi-human household, where someone is always home would be ideal! Lyta does NOT do well with other dogs, but does well with humans of all ages. She struggles with separation anxiety, and does not like being in a kennel or crate. Experience with her breed is a HUGE plus. All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will have age appropriate vaccinations, testing, alterations and microchips included in their adoption fee! Fill out an app at www.freeborncountyhs.org. We do allow home trials with our dogs or cats to approved applicants. This is how we make sure your new family member is the perfect fit. We ask that you allow at least a month for your new pet to adjust to their new home. They will need that time to decompress. During this time we will provide counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review the basic adoption requirements listed on our site before applying. We take finding the right homes for our critters very seriously as they deserve nothing but the best! Please allow a week for applications to be processed. If listed as (Currently in Foster) - these pets are not at our facility but are in foster care homes. They are available for adoption. Meet and greets are available with approved applicants only. Haku means "pure" in Japanese! I was named for my pure, passionate and overwhelming love for everyone around me! I came to the rescue when my dad was stationed in Japan and heartbroken that he couldn't take me with him. I've missed him so much ever since! Everyday I do the things I did with him with other dogs so I can try and remember what it felt like to be with him! But it's just not the same. So, I'm hoping a new family can come scoop me up and show me what it feels like to be a part of a home and family again! I am good with other dogs, I love playing chase with them or tugging on chew toys. I'll need a happy and active home so that my life will be full of love and fun! I am a bit anxious and nervous around new people, and people in general! Slow introductions, a safe space I can retreat to like a crate and not forcing me into spaces with tons of people will help me be myself all the time! Haku can only be adopted in the local or TX area. Local adoption only, in San Antonio or TX area, $200.
