Meet Charlie — a big-hearted, high-energy companion looking for his perfect home. Charlie is a nearly 100-pound bundle of joy with a playful spirit and an even bigger personality. He thrives on interaction and loves to stay active, making him a great match for someone who enjoys engaging, energetic dogs. Whether it’s playtime, training, or just being by your side, Charlie is happiest when he’s involved. He’s both food- and praise-motivated, which makes him very responsive and eager to learn. Charlie already shows great focus on his handler and enjoys working together, though he can get excited and pull on the leash during walks. With a bit of consistent training, he has all the potential to become a wonderful walking companion. Charlie is a social guy who gets along well with both people and the other dog in the home. He greets new friends with enthusiasm! One important thing to know is that Charlie doesn’t like being left alone for long periods. He is also working on fine-tuning his potty training. Charlie is working with the behavior Team at Hannah to help with these things. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate, and lively dog who will bring energy and love into your life, Charlie might just be your perfect match! Story
Meet Midnight — the tall, stunning, floppy-eared dreamboat with eyes as warm as melted chocolate and a coat that glows like bronze in the sunshine! 🌙✨ This 3-year-old Malamute/Husky mix (we think!) is basically the canine version of a supermodel… if that supermodel also happened to be a total goofball who loves belly rubs, splashy pool parties, and zooming in circles just for the joy of it. From the moment you meet him, Midnight’s charm is impossible to resist. He’s got that big, easy grin, a tail that never stops wagging, and a “hi, I love you already” kind of energy that makes you instantly fall head over heels. When we met him, he popped his head out the car window just to say hello — tail thumping, eyes sparkling, already making friends before his paws even hit the ground. That’s Midnight in a nutshell: confident, happy, and so full of life. Watch Midnight's personality shine in his video! https://youtu.be/zD5VOftQENw?si=Q2MOviX1hAr6ljAz He’s also seriously affectionate. The minute you crouch down, he leans his whole big body into you for pets and kisses, like he’s trying to soak up every ounce of love you’ll give him (and then some). He’s that perfect mix of adventure dog and cuddle bug — equally thrilled to go on a long hike or flop beside you on the couch like a giant, fuzzy blanket with legs. And when it comes to dog friends? Midnight is an absolute blast. 🎉 He’s super social and loves to play rough-and-rowdy style with his buddies — big bouncy play bows, zooming laps, goofy wrestling, and lots of splashing in the kiddie pool mid-play just because he can. He does great with confident, playful dogs (especially sassy females who can keep up and tell him when to chill). He’s got that big personality that other confident dogs love, and once the play settles, he’s happy to lounge and soak up the vibes. He’s the kind of dog who’d be perfect for someone who loves adventures — hikes, beach trips, park playdates, or just neighborhood strolls where everyone stops to say “wow, he’s gorgeous!” (which, trust us, they will). Despite being part husky, Midnight’s surprisingly quiet — he doesn’t have much to say, he just wags, wiggles, and wins hearts wherever he goes. Midnight would thrive in a home with a yard to romp around in or an active person or family who wants a loyal, silly, handsome sidekick for all their outings. He’d do great with kids and loves being part of the fun. He’s one of those dogs that just fits right into the rhythm of family life — happy to go, happy to stay, as long as he’s got his people and plenty of love. Did we mention how ridiculously good-looking he is? Because truly, this boy could be on the cover of Dog Vogue. His rich brown coat shines in the light, his fur looks like velvet, and his expressive face always looks like he’s smiling. Add in his long legs, fluffy tail, and slightly dorky zoomies, and you’ve got yourself a dog who’s both model material and comedian of the year. Midnight is the total package — stunning, sweet, playful, and full of personality. He’s the kind of dog that turns heads, steals hearts, and makes every day brighter just by being his big, silly, perfect self. 💕 Ready to welcome a new furry friend into your life? When he first arrived, I thought he was much older and that he would be a hospice case. He was stiff and frozen in fear and skinny. He would barely move. I put him in a kennel with younger dogs and he soon found his youthful spirit again and is like a different dog now. I don't know his age for sure but he has lots of life and happiness left in him and I think he is younger than 8. He weighs about 60 lbs now. He learned how to climb out of the 6 ft chain link kennel but he doesn't stray far from it except to follow me on walks. He goes down the pond to take a dip but mostly just hangs out by the kennel. So while he has the skills of a husky to escape, he doesn't have the urge of a husky to run off and go explore. I don't even put him up when I leave because he doesn't go anywhere. He is great with other dogs but sometimes doesn't know how big he is so he wouldn't be good around scared little dogs. Not because he would hurt them, but because they might get scared of him. He is fine with my chihuahuas but they are very bossy and not scared of anything. For that reason, I also don't think he should be around cats. To be clear, he is not aggressive at all, he just tries to play with everything and with his size that just wouldn't work with a dog or cats that's scared of him. He is very food motivated and walks well on the leash as well. He is an awesome boy and I am glad he didn't die at the kill shelter. He is currently still in Oklahoma where he was rescued but he can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. He has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, we will either find a local foster to take him in or he will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Note: No dogs are advertised as potty-trained because most dogs need at least some re-training in a new environment and after being in a shelter/rescue environment/strays. www.facebook.com/desideratarescue (copy and paste into a new browser window) Transport locations: - Washington State (Kennewick, Spokane, Tumwater, Tacoma, Tukwila, Lynnwood/Edmonds, Bellingham) - Oregon (Portland and Springfield) - Colorado (Ft Lupton) - Idaho (Heyburn and Boise/Meridian) - Utah (Ogden) - Wyoming (Evanston, Rock Springs, Laramie) - Montana (Missoula) - Illinois (Vandalia, Springfield, Chicago) - Indiana (Spiceland, Burn Harbor) - Michigan (St Joseph, Battle Creek, Ann Arbor) - Wisconsin (Madison, Wausau, Eau Claire, Appleton, Milwaukee) - Minnesota (Minneapolis/St Paul) - Iowa (Des Moines) - Ohio (Columbus and London) - Pennsylvania (Erie, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg) - New York (Buffalo and Albany) - Connecticut (Enfield) - New Jersey (Bedminster) - Nevada (Las Vegas) - Arizona (Flagstaff) - Vermont (Brattleboro) Vetting: neutered, microchipped, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, dhpp vaccine x 3, lepto vaccine x 2, dewormed several times, on monthly flea and tick prevention, on monthly heartworm protection, heartworm tested (negative). Story
Meet Strider💙 — the handsome adventure buddy with the best mismatched eyes. Strider is a 7-year-young neutered male with a sweet, playful personality and a truly unforgettable look — he has one blue eye and one brown eye. He’s the kind of dog who will happily join you for a walk, romp around the yard, and then come inside to hang out and be your shadow. Strider is moderate energy: he loves walks, but he’s also totally happy to relax at home and play with you inside. While he’d love a yard to zoom around in, he would also likely do just fine in an apartment as long as he gets daily exercise and enrichment. ✅ Good with other dogs 🚫 Probably not good with cats (he is VERY interested in them) ✅ Great with visitors — he may give a couple soft “boofs,” then settles right in Strider enjoys toys (especially rubber balls) and one of his favorite hobbies is… enthusiastically destroying rubber toys. If you like buying toys and watching your dog have the time of his life? Strider is your guy. He is also neutered and fully vaccinated. Affectionate… with boundaries Strider is a very loving dog — he enjoys pets and snuggles and does well with handling when he approaches you first. He’s happiest when his humans respect his space and let him initiate affection (and once he does, he’s a total sweetheart). Training update Strider is currently working on: Crate training Leash training (he still pulls quite a bit) With consistency and positive reinforcement, he will continue to improve. Important note (please read) Strider does have a bite history. In a previous incident, someone leaned closely over him while he was grooming. Strider seemed got studded with the sudden move bit the person’s face, leaving two punctures. The incident was quick — he released immediately and did not attempt to bite again. Because of this, Strider needs: A home with no children Adults who understand dog body language A home that will be cautious when Strider is grooming himself, sleeping, or chewing bones/toys Strider is not a “bad dog” — he’s a dog who needs the right environment and humans who will respect his boundaries so he can feel safe and successful. If you’re looking for a loyal, playful, affectionate best friend who will thrive with structure, respect, and love, Strider may be the perfect match. Currently being cared for in West Sacramento area, Strider can be transported to northern states such as Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, or other locations within the continental United States, where a loving family awaits to welcome him.
