Story
Meet Oreo – Your Perfect-Size Snuggle Buddy Who doesn’t love an Oreo? I’m Oreo, an 11-month-old, 43-pound bully mix from Texas, and I’m just the right size for your heart and your couch. I’m a curious, affectionate pup who loves to watch the world from the window—dogs, people, squirrels, you name it. I’m super food-motivated and eager to please, which makes training a breeze, especially if treats are involved. I may take a second to figure out what you’re asking, but I always try my best to get it right. Physical touch is my love language—I’m a total Velcro dog who needs to be close to my people at all times. I adore snuggles, belly rubs, and go absolutely crazy for butt scratches. I’m playful, goofy, and love curling up next to you (or on you, if you’ll let me). In my foster home, I live with another dog and we get along great. We enjoyed running and playing together at the dog park. I’m fully potty trained and sleep soundly through the night in my crate without any accidents. I’m also good on a leash and enjoy going for walks. I’ve seen children at adoption events and have done well with them, but I don’t currently live with any. I haven’t met any cats yet, so I’m not sure how I’d feel about them. If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal, and cuddly companion who will follow you everywhere and always be ready for snuggles, I might just be the perfect pup for you. I’m a great size and will easily fit in your home, on your lap, or right in the middle of a puppy pile. Could I be the Oreo your life is missing? Our standard adoption fee is $465. We offer a $15 discount for adopters who pay by cash or check, making the adoption fee $450. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal test, deworming, current on flea and tick preventative, and microchip. To ensure the best match for both our dogs and adopters, we require a fully completed adoption application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with the entire household. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. Submitting an application does not guarantee adoption and does not obligate you to adopt; it simply allows us to begin the review process. To request an application or for additional details, please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. 🐾 Meet Fletcher – A Loyal Soul Learning to Trust Again 🐾 Fletcher’s story didn’t start kindly. He came to us from a Texas shelter where dogs are euthanized for space, and he was running out of time. We don’t know the full details of his past, but it’s clear Fletcher loved his humans deeply — and was abandoned and let down. When Fletcher arrived, he had a large scar on his back leg, a quiet reminder of the neglect he endured before rescue. The injury rarely causes him to limp, and he has been fully vet-checked and medically cleared. It’s an old injury and no further medical care is needed. Because of this history, Fletcher is slow to warm up. He wants to love again, but he’s afraid to give his whole heart and risk being hurt another time. Once he trusts you, his loyalty is unmatched. 🏡 At Home Fletcher is a champion sleeper and an elite cuddler. He’s calm, laid-back indoors, and happiest curled up next to his person — often taking over the entire bed. A home that doesn’t mind a bed hog is a must! 🐶 With Other Dogs Fletcher does great with other dogs and enjoys their company, but he needs slow, respectful introductions. As long as the other dog is friendly with him, he does very well. 👨‍👩‍👧 With People & Kids Fletcher is warming up more every day but still needs his space at times. He does best with adults or older kids who understand dog body language and boundaries. Younger children are not his ideal match. When he’s uncomfortable, he will back up and growl — he has never snapped. We strongly believe in respecting his signals. 🎓 Training & Progress Fletcher is learning and building confidence: ✔️ Knows sit ✔️ Goes into his crate/cage ✔️ Waits for food ✔️ Continuing to learn at his own pace ✨ What Makes Fletcher Special • Deeply loyal once bonded • Emotionally intuitive — comforts you when you’re sad • Calm, relaxed energy indoors • Great with dogs after proper introductions • A true “heart dog” for the right person ⚠️ Things to Know • Nervous around new people • Very expressive and “talkative,” especially when playtime ends 🏡 Fletcher’s Ideal Home • Any activity level • Adults or older teens preferred • No young children • Large yard is a bonus • Patient, dog-savvy humans • A home that understands fear-based behaviors • Someone who will prove love can be permanent Fletcher isn’t looking for perfection — he’s looking for safety, consistency, and commitment. In return, he’ll give devotion, comfort, and a love that runs deep. If you’re willing to move at his pace and earn his trust, Fletcher will give you his whole heart. 💙🐾 Ready to meet your new best friend? I can’t wait to find my forever family! Meet Kokomo Joe! Looking for a big, lovable goofball to brighten your days? Look no further—Kokomo Joe is here! This 80-85+ lb mixed breed boy may have had a rough start in Texas, but he's ready to leave his past behind and find a forever home filled with love and belly rubs. Kokomo Joe's story is heartbreaking—he was abandoned and starved when his previous owner was incarcerated, leaving him to fend for himself while his housemates were fed. When he first arrived, he was painfully thin, with every rib and his hip bones showing. He also had some food aggression, but who could blame him after all he'd been through? Thankfully, with regular meals and love, he now understands he’ll never go hungry again. He’s no longer protective of his food and hasn’t shown any signs of food aggression since. Despite his past, Kokomo Joe’s spirit shines bright! He’s a true fun-loving goober who doesn’t realize his own size. Whether he’s hopping around like Tigger or cuddling up as if he’s a tiny lap dog, this big guy will keep you smiling. His crate and house manners are spot-on—zero accidents here! He’s even learned to move his crate across the floor, proving he’s as strong as he is sweet. Kokomo Joe gets along with other dogs with proper introductions and would thrive in a home that can continue his training and give him the structure he needs. His ideal family will embrace his goofy, big-hearted nature and help him become the best boy he can be. If you’re ready to welcome this big, bouncy cuddle bug into your life, Kokomo Joe is ready to meet you! Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . Story
Hi! My name is Patty! Foster mom has been calling me Patty Cake. I am a 7 year old bully mix. I am a bit chunky, but we are going to work on that. It does not stop me from doing zoomies around the yard! I am a great mix of energetic when you want to go out for a walk and couch potato. I have no issues curling up on the couch to read or watch tv. We are still learning about personal space. I like to climb up on foster mom. I love other dogs. I am so happy to meet new friends. I have been trying to get my foster siblings to play with me. I respect my older foster sister when she tells me I am in her space. I love all people. I was so happy at the adoption event when people stopped to pet me. I may do better in a home with older kids just because I do not realize my size and could knock little ones over. I can get very exuberant. I am crate trained and potty trained. I may whine a little in my crate, but settle down. I have not had any accidents in the house. I love walks, but can be a little strong. Foster mom Is going to try and work on some leash manners. I will walk nicely until I see something I have to go check out. I ride nicely in the car too, so will have no trouble going on adventures with you! Foster mom calls me a bull in a china shop. I am a big lovable goofball. I have no concept of my size. When I went to the pet store I just kept knocking stuff over. I do make my foster mom laugh with my antics. I really want to find a home to settle into. Don’t let the fact that I am 7 scare you off. It just means I am well past the puppy stage. I have lots of love to give my family. If you would like to meet me, please call Annie at 815-685-0746. The adoption fee is $275. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive - deworming

Story
Pearl is such a special girl. She’s about 3 years old, around 40 pounds, and full of love. She is incredibly sweet, affectionate, clingy (in the best way), and just loves being around her people. She’s the type of dog who wants to be by your side all the time, whether you’re going for a walk or just hanging out at home. She’s potty trained, has had training, and is still learning. On walks, she’s doing better and better. She’s no longer chasing animals like before, and this is something we’ve been actively working on. She can still have some puppy moments (a little jumping on us), but she has improved a lot and continues to do so. Pearl is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. She does really well with people, but she needs to be the only pet in the home. No other animals at all. She just doesn’t do well with other pets and will be happiest where she can be the only child. She also doesn’t love being alone for long periods, so she would do best with someone who is around more and wants a very loving, loyal companion. We also recommend regular potty breaks (ideally no more than about 4 hours apart), as she had a severe UTI when she was rescued that took months to treat. Keeping her on a consistent schedule helps keep her happy and healthy. One of the most special things about Pearl is her smile. She truly smiles when she sees and walks to us, and it’s something so unique and heart-melting. She has such a big heart and so much love to give. She’s honestly one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever known. If you’re looking for a dog who will love you deeply and be your little shadow, Pearl is that dog. She just needs the right home where she can feel safe, loved, and fully supported. If you would like to meet this dog, please call Teri at 630-897-7454. The adoption fee is $275. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive - deworming

Story
Rory 3 months old 20 pounds Female Mixed breed If you're out on your own, feeling lonely and so cold. All you gotta do is call Rory and I’ll be there as your best friend! **Hi, I’m Rory, and I can’t wait to meet you!** I’m currently living with three doggy siblings and two senior cats. I’m so friendly that I greet new friends with sweet little kisses on their hands and will immediately ask to be picked up for some cuddles. I’m a curious and adventurous pup who loves exploring, but I always stay close to my foster moms. Recently, my foster mom took me out without a leash, and I was so attentive that the moment I lost sight of her, I ran straight back to find her. She says my recall is really impressive, even with just a little training! I’ve also been showing off my fetch skills by consistently bringing the ball back when called. I adore playing and cuddling with dogs of all sizes. I learn quickly by watching my older foster sisters and love play-fighting with my 50-pound and 80-pound sisters. I’m also very respectful of our oldest foster sister, who prefers quieter times. I’m curious about cats, too — but I always give them space. One kitty has even started napping on the couch next to me because I’m so calm and respectful around them. When I’m not busy playing, I love to relax. You’ll often find me sprawled out on the couch or curled up on a dog bed surrounded by my toys. I’m pretty independent and very good at entertaining myself while my foster moms work and my foster sisters nap. My foster moms say I’m a quick learner — I’m already picking up commands like “no,” “come,” “sit,” and “leave it.” Since I’m still young, housetraining is just getting started, but I’m doing great with indoor potty pads and am beginning to walk toward the front door when I need to go outside. At night, I sleep in a cozy crate with my favorite lamb toy. I sleep well through the night and rarely have accidents in the crate. In the morning I run straight to the front door after my foster mom lets me out of my crate, so that I can go pee outside. Then I curl up on the couch with my foster mom to grab a few more hours of sleep. I’m also a car ride rock star — I usually fall asleep right away and don’t cry on trips. If you’re looking for a playful, cuddly puppy to join your adventures and snuggle sessions, please contact Safe Haven about me — I can’t wait to meet you!
