Red is a thick mixed breed, likely has some boxer in her.  She is around 55 lbs.  Red is listed as special needs because she is heartworm positive.   Red is fine around and with other dogs, specifically her companion Shortly, who she arrived with. We do suggest meet and greet with any new housemate prior to us approving an adoption.  Red is super shy of new people and does take a bit of time to warm up to each new person she meets.  If you have interest please stop in to meet her or give us a call if you have questions. Story
My name is Bloom! I’m about 1 year old and weigh 50 pounds. I am very gentle, love meeting new people and will happily cuddle all day especially if there are tummy rubs involved. My favorite place to sit is wherever my human is sitting and I’m happy to keep your place warm while you run to the fridge. I do well with other dogs however if they are mean and bark at me first, I will eventually bark back. Life’s too short for haters! I’ve seen lots of birds, cats, bunnies, squirrels and deer in my life and although I wanted to check out the deer, I wasn’t very interested in the others. When I get really happy, I will smile. To be honest, it’s still a work in progress and looks a little funny but I think it’s important to offer my human positive feedback when they get something right.I’ve been working very hard on potty training. Now that my life has settled down, I am doing pretty well in that department. I don’t love getting baths but, in general, I trust that my human is doing the right thing for me and will quietly stand there until we’re all clean. I’ve also learned that getting dried with a towel includes tummy rubs so I’ll put up with the washing part. I’m starting to learn some commands but still have a lot of potential. I think I understand what “no” means but sometimes reserve the right to ignore it based on the situation. I let my human know how much I love them all the time and would love to have a forever family to love me back. I look forward to the chance to see and sniff you in person!

Story
Meet Georgia!! This classy gal strutted into the shelter as a stray on 10/24/25, and we think she’s about 5 years old. Don’t let her initial shyness fool you — Georgia warms up fast once she realizes you’re part of her fan club. We’re pretty sure she used to live the good life, because the moment she spotted the bench, she hopped right up like “Ah yes, my throne.” This girl clearly believes furniture is for queens — and she is most definitely one. 👑 Georgia is sweet, friendly, and absolutely powered by treats. She’s looking for a forever home with someone who appreciates her refined taste and snuggle potential. She is available for adoption now, so hurry in to meet her before someone else claims this couch-loving cutie! 📍 Richland County Dog Shelter Mansfield, OH 📞 419-774-5892 📩 Applications can be requested via dogs@richlandcountyoh.gov

Story
Meet Hank! Hank found himself back at the pound for barking and jumping too much, and not listening… but after spending time with him, it’s clear this young guy wasn’t being bad — he was just being a dog who wanted attention, play, and companionship.Hank was excited and affectionate in the yard earlier, eager to interact and have fun. Yes, he jumps — not out of defiance, but out of enthusiasm and love. When playtime ended and he was left alone, he cried and barked, clearly hoping for more time with his person. This boy thrives on human connection. He appears to be potty trained and walks fairly well on a leash. Hank hasn’t shown any issues around the other dogs at the pound, though he’ll be dog-tested again to make sure he’s a good match for potential furry siblings.Hank would do best with an active adopter who understands young dogs need time, patience, and outlets for their energy. With consistent guidance, playtime, and affection, Hank will be an incredible companion. He’s a good boy. He just needs the right person to grow up with.

Story
Meet Nala, our resident beefcake with a heart of gold. 💪💖Nala is strong, solid, and impressive at first glance — but give her a moment and you’ll see what she really is: a total love bug who just wants affection, reassurance, and someone to call her own. She does best as the only pet in the home, but she’s great with children and thrives on human companionship. Her past hasn’t been kind. Nala came to the shelter emaciated, after spending much of her life locked in a crate, with painful urine-scalded feet and legs. Despite everything she endured, she never lost her gentle spirit or her desire to trust people. She’s had professional training, giving her a solid foundation, and she wants so badly to do the right thing. After waiting at the shelter for quite some time, Nala finally found a home — only to be returned recently due to her adopter experiencing serious health issues. Through no fault of her own, she’s back, confused and waiting again.Nala has already survived more than any dog should have to. What she needs now is stability, patience, and someone who will see past her muscles to the soft heart underneath. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion and can offer her a pet-free home, Nala is ready to love you with her whole big body and even bigger heart. 🐾More information? Story
Emerging from the depths of her enchanted kiddie pool, Vada the Troll Queen is here to claim your backyard, your hose, and your heart. This mischievous little gremlin is equal parts sass, splash, and snuggle (on her terms, of course). She’s a one-of-a-kind, hose-chasing, Kong-chomping legend—and she’s looking for a loyal human to serve as her humble subject.Vada’s ideal kingdom includes: • A hose with good water pressure (the royal fountain, obviously) • A steady supply of Kongs (the sacred treasure of her people) • Zero other dogs (she’s a solo troll, thank you very much) • Cats who know their place (bow or be batted at) • Minimal manfolk (she finds them suspicious)She may be wary of strange humans (especially tall, loud ones), but once you’re accepted into her inner swamp circle, Vada is fiercely loyal and surprisingly sweet. She’ll keep your yard safe from rogue sprinklers, overconfident squirrels, and any unauthorized lawn gnomes.Vada is not here to win “Miss Congeniality.” She’s here to rule, splash, and chew rubbery things until they squeak no more. If you’re looking for a gentle, dainty flower—keep walking. But if you’re ready to bow before the chaos goblin queen and laugh every day at her swampy shenanigans, your highness awaits.Long live Vada. Bring snacks.More information?
