Story
Shadow's story. Information provided by his foster parents. Two years ago, Don and Evelyn went to a shelter to meet a new possible foster dog. He was a handsome, brindle boy but he had no use for them at all. Didn't want anything to do with them. However, they decided they were ready to take on this challenge and give then Drax (the destroyer), now Shadow, a chance at life. Shadow jumped into the car fine and laid down in the backseat. Ten minutes into the car ride, Don and Evelyn were quite surprised when Shadow got up, went over to Don and kissed his ear and then went over to Evelyn and kissed her ear as if to say "I think you might be okay". However, they quickly discovered that although very smart dog and well trained, Shadow was very wary of strangers. When you reached out to Shadow, he appeared to think he was about to be hit, and developed a defensive system leading them to think that he was likely trained with the fear and punishment method. A short time after taking Shadow home, they reached out to Satchel's to take ownership of Shadow while he remained in their care. Fast forward 2 years, and thanks to the help of Satchel's, Jeff Joyce and his team, and events they attended with neighbors and friends, along with lots of love and patience, Shadow has become a wonderful, fun loving boy. Shadow has learned that strangers are not his enemy and that he can trust them, have lots of fun with them, and get loving, treats and petting back. Although still a little standoffish at first, he will take an hour or so to check you out, and then will warm right up and make you his good friend. Shadow, now 4 years old, is ready to find his forever home with a loving family who will give him a little time to adjust to a new home and feel safe. For an appointment to meet Shadow, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) and an adoption counselor will contact you.

Story
All Tyson wants is love. He was surrendered to Satchels after his family could no longer care for him. Tyson is a gentle soul with a calm demeanor. He wants nothing more than to be with his people. He lived with young children in his prior home and adored them. He was initially a bit lost in the shelter environment. It took him a little longer to adapt and he searched for his family every time he went outside for the first couple of weeks. Now that he has finally settled in, he loves to go for walks with volunteers. He is a gentle and polite walker despite his large size. He can be a little timid of loud noises at times.

Story
Baby is in a temporary foster home and this is what her foster mom has to say about her: ” Baby is such a super sweet girl!! She is a lover and always so happy. She makes a funny grunting noise when she gets overly happy & excited, and that tail of hers wags like crazy! Things she loves: snuggling with her humans, belly rubs, playing fetch and tug of war, going for walks and smelling everything, getting sqeakers out of her stuffed toys, walking around with her ball in her mouth, playing and napping with Mochi (cat), going on the boat... Things she does not love: Other dogs and the beach, she didn't mind the sand but did not want to go near the water. A great home for Baby would have a yard she can run and play fetch in and probably best with no other dogs. ”

Story
Hera is a 2-year-old, spayed female, pit mix looking for her forever home. Hera was surrendered due to unfortunate circumstances of her previous owner, making her unable to care for Herta anymore. My husband and I have been fostering Hera since November of 2025 and we have grown to know this sweet dog over the last few months. Hera would be best suited in a home with no other pets; she wants to have her new owner all to herself. We would consider Hera dog reactive, although she does not lunge or growl at other dogs; she is unpredictable with them likely due to not having previous exposure in her life. She does great wearing a basket muzzle and has had a few introductions with one of our dogs, with consistent training and the right dog she may get along with one down the road. She is extremely food motivated and has shown great improvement in listening to commands with treat reinforcement. Although she still needs to learn some manners when it comes to jumping, she is heading in the right direction. Hera has BIG feelings and excitement; she loves people. She is excited so much that sometimes she will nibble your clothes when you come home to greet her; she redirects well with being handed a toy to have instead. Sometimes Hera likes to search the yard for poop, so she will need supervision on walks or when outside. She does great on a leash, she gets walked around the neighborhood daily and does well with people and their pets passing by or dogs barking from yards, she just cannot interact with them. She has some anxiety and is currently on medications to help with that. Hera has had a lot of life changes recently and once she settles into a new home, there is potential to reduce these medications. She is a big chewer and will need supervision with items around the house; she is crate trained and will likely need to be crated when left unsupervised. She loves to play tug of war and sit in the sunshine to soak up some rays but what she truely loves most is spending time with people. She loves to snuggle and would love to be touching her human at all times if she could. Hera really needs someone who will be patient and calm with her to give her the second chance she deserves. She will need continued training and someone willing to put the time in for her. We have grown to love Hera and all her little quirks; she is a great dog, and anyone who adopts her will see all the love she has to give.

Story
Looking for a handsome stud muffin with the best smile in town? Well look no further, our buddy Andi is not only easy on the eyes with his white and grey coat but his smile is enough to brighten anyone's day! This fun loving boy loves to play and have a good time. He adores having all kinds of toys but his favorite is a basic tennis ball. His favorite spot at Satchel's is the agility play yard and he has mastered the jumps, A-frame, see-saw and tire tunnel! As a food motivated guy, he has proven quick to learn new behaviors. He is extremely loving and wishes only to spend time with those he loves. When you join his circle, there is no better greeting than from Andi, he always lets you know how much he cares by leg leans, playful jumping and kisses. Andi has a Woof Pack leader here at Satchel's and they are working on his acceptance of new people. He is a big supporter of leisurely strolls and walks very well on leash. He does get distracted a bit, wanting to catch lizards he finds here and there, but listens when it's time to rest. He loves car rides and with that giant smile and ears flopping in the wind, you can't resist sharing that happiness. This gentle soul does need patience when meeting him the first time or two, since his trust is not so easy to gain. He is protective of the people he cares most about and would do anything for them. He also is not the fondest of other dogs and would prefer to be your main squeeze rather than share. There is so much love in Andi's heart and we here at Satchel's Last Resort would love for you to take the time to also get to know this amazing canine and his brilliant smile! For an appointment to meet Andi, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.

Looking for a dog that will keep you laughing and active? Meet Muni, a spirited dog with a personality as big as her smile — literally! Thanks to a rare gene, this mama flashes a charming grin whenever she’s excited, and trust us, it’s impossible not to smile back. She also does the cutest happy howls when she sees someone she knows. Muni is a bundle of energy who loves zooming around while pulling her foster parent on a longboard, then flopping into the grass for some well-earned roll breaks. She’s also a gentle treat-taker and a certified favorite among Starbuck’s workers! Muni is crate trained, potty trained, and is still working on her basic obedience. While she’s slightly reactive towards other animals, it’s really easy to get her attention back. City noises? No problem! Muni’s a former city dog, so hustle and bustle don’t phase her one bit. Muni only gets along with older kids as she has some difficulty with the unpredictability of the younger ones. She doesn’t like cats and doesn’t like strange dogs in her personal space. It is possible for her to live with another dog with a proper introduction as she has made a few dog friends in the past! If you’re looking for an adventure buddy with a heart of gold and a one-of-a-kind smile, Muni is your girl!

Story
This happy girl lives up to her name, a sassy personality indeed. Sassafras is an adult beauty, with a brilliant smile that brightens anyone's day. She is the life of the party and loves to be the center of attention. She can not wait to go outside and either go in the yards and sniff everything possible, or go on a brisk walk, leading the way. Sassy is protective of her space and loyal to her friends but will welcome new people into her circle with a slow introduction. She doesn't seem to mind the company of some canines, but we have found her to be selective and she would prefer to have the people all to herself. She adores toys and goes for the stuffed squeaky toys every time. She will chase balls to the point of exhaustion but her favorite past time is water play. When given the opportunity, she loves splashing in a wading pool, chasing the spray of a hose and swimming in the bay. She is very treat motivated, which is helpful in her learning of basic obedience. Curling up in a comfy bed or cuddled up with a friend is the best way to end her day. If you're looking for that missing piece of love in your life, Sassafras could be the perfect dose to fill your heart. For an appointment to meet Sassafras, please submit the adoption application (no commitment) found on our website, www.satchelslastresort.org, and an adoption counselor will be in touch.
