Rambunctious, full of life, and even a bit of a trickster, our outgoing boy Tucker is a whirlwind of energy. He has done both obedience training and agility training. He has worked with a few of our volunteers, and has a special bond with his Woof pack member. He is incredibly smart and once his zoomies are out, takes directions very well. He walks very well when he has his harness on and long walks are welcomed. Tucker loves to jump in the pool to cool off or even just a nice spray down with the hose. Tucker has been interested in other canine buddies, and has had a female yard buddy. When it's time to relax, he loves curling up on a blanket. While Tucker is amazing, he still has a lot of training to go in order to be the greatest he can be. Tucker loves play time, but is very stingy with his toys, treats and food. He has shown a protective nature with these things particularly and needs patience and reassurance that his precious things will continue to be his. It is because of his resource guarding that we encourage a more seasoned dog owner for this extroverted boy, with an active life style and a fenced in yard for him to run around in. We also hope that his new family will continue his training and even further his training and education in doggy educate. * Medical Special Needs * Meet Crystal. What do you see when you look at Crystal? An overbred momma dog? A dog that had a horrible person chop off her ears? A dog that was left inside a crate at an abandoned property? You know what we see? Unconditional love, this girl wants affection and love so badly. She craves to be told she is a good girl, a warm leg to lean on. She is beautiful to us both inside and out. You will see that too when you come meet her and give her a chance. She enjoys a bath and belly rub, hugs and a romp in the yard but her favorite thing to do is hang out with people who love her. Sometimes it will take her a little while to warm up to new people, but the wait is so worth it. She is just a big love bug. She is not fond of other dogs. She can go for walks with them but not exist together in a house or come face to face. She is obsessed with cats so if you are interested in her, you can't have any of those either. She does have cancer (cutaneous hemangiosarcoma). It manifests itself with sores and blood blisters on her stomach and these will pop occasionally and bleed. Eventually the disease will go to her spleen. Her survival can be a few years with this type of cancer by the time it has spread to the spleen. * SPECIAL NEEDS: Fearful of some men. Handsome is an exuberant, loving boy who quickly bonds and falls in love with everyone he meets. He is initially fearful of some men so a very slow introduction would be required but once he knows he can trust you, you're in his circle forever. Handsome is 6 years old and enjoys long walks, splashing around in swimming pools and chasing lizards. He does like playing with most female dogs his own size, but again a proper introduction would be required. Handsome is treat motivated and knows basic commands. He would be a perfect student for an obedience training program! Handsome is currently working with his Woof Pack leader on muzzle training so making introductions are much easier. Looking for a handsome stud muffin with the best smile in town? Well look no further, our buddy Andi is not only easy on the eyes with his white and grey coat but his smile is enough to brighten anyone's day! This fun loving and outgoing boy loves to play and have a good time. He adores having all kinds of toys, though can be a little rough with the stuffed squeaky ones. He is extremely loving and wishes only to spend time with those he loves. When you join his circle, there is no better greeting than from Andi, he always let's you know how much he cares by leg leans, playful jumping and kisses. Andi has a Woof Pack leader here at Satchel's and they are working on his acceptance of new people. He is a big supporter of leisurely strolls and walks very well on leash. He does get distracted a bit, wanting to catch lizards he finds here and there, but listens when it's time to rest. He is an excellent car rider, and with that giant smile and ears flopping in the wind, you can't resist sharing that happiness. This gentle soul does need patience when meeting him the first time or two, since his trust is not so easy to gain. He is protective of the people he cares most about and would do anything for them. He also is not the fondest of other dogs and would prefer to be your main squeeze rather than share. A pinch of sweetness, a dash of quirky, and a hint love, makes Blaze our special boy. This senior Pittie is guessed to be 10 years old and is looking for a friend to spice his life up a bit. He has an adorable, handsome face that seems a little small for his body, with large bat like ears that make everyone smile. Blaze is both independent and loves good company, so he doesn't mind relaxing by himself, or taking time to sit next to a buddy. He is a perfect gentleman on walks, and has volunteers asking for him all day. He is always ready to go for a trip, whether it's a long leisurely stroll, or a car ride for a new adventure. He has fun with toys, and is a joy to watch when he gets excited, bouncing from side-to-side. He is an excellent listener, and comes back when called, even if he is mid sniff. This boy would make a wonderful partner in a home, and would protect the ones he loves. He would do best with an older crowd, as small children might try and steal a snack or two, which is one thing Blaze likes to keep to himself. He is very respectful but also wants the same in return. Mardi is a 4 year old affectionate 52 lb youth who looks like “Layla the Boxer”. She is energetic, loves to play, stealth at stealing socks, prefers to drink from faucet or shower is house broken and knows commands of: come, sit, stay, leave it, off, on. Mardi is leash trained, curious & social and friendly with people and dogs she’s just met. At the Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County, a favorite of the staff and greeted all enthusiastically. Found as a stray in Punta Gorda and arrived at AWLCC in August and I adopted her in November. Mardi has a zeal for playing with toys, walks outside, car rides, making new friends in dog parks where she matches energy level. She is attentive, inquisitive and loves belly rubs. Also enjoys her downtime and sleep in her crate. Mardi craves attention and would be happy in a home with space to run and people/dogs to play with . I am starting a new job that requires significant travel which is why I am trying to find her a forever home.
