Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Todd is a large and beefy pit bull type mix who was found roaming in the county. He was held for the legal hold time and no one claimed him. He's a gorgeous, strong, and happy guy who could have some mastiff in him and maybe some American bulldog. We think he's around 2 years old, maybe a smidge younger. He will be vet checked and neutered soon and his fee is $150. Todd is strong and has shown a little bit of dog reactivity at the shelter. This is not unusual as it's a pretty rowdy environment. He has calmed down a bit since his initial arrival. We do think he would do best as the only pet in the home. He loves people but does need a strong owner who can handle his strength and keep up with his energy level. He does appear to have had some basic training. No small kids for this bulldozer. This is due to his size and strength, not his personality! NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been submitted and approved. Applications can be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventative, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 9, 2023, 3:24 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Ingrid is a friendly and stocky pit bull type gal with a beautiful brindle coat. She arrived on 10/23/2023 as she was found "stray", if not abandoned, at a local park. She was never claimed by an owner after fulfilling the legal hold time with us. We think she's around 2 years old and she's on the smaller side of large, weighing around 48 pounds. She will need to be spayed soon and her fee is $150. Ingrid enjoys the company of people. We do think she would be okay with older kids, like 8 years old and up. We do feel that she would prefer to be the only pet in the home. She is pretty well mannered but might need a bit of basic training. She's a princess! NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Augie, originally O'Brien at our shelter, was adopted in March, 2023 when he was around 4 months old. He was returned on 11/30/2023 as he turned out to be too strong and active for the adopter. He supposedly has over a dozen breeds in his genetic make up - pit bull, shar pei, beagle, lab, etc... Augie has been been fully vet checked, vaccinated, chipped, and neutered. His fee is $150. Augie is a nice and loving 1 year old boy. However, he still has a lot of maturing to do at his young age, and requires a lot of exercise and continued training. He's looking for a home in which he will not be left alone for long hours. Augie should do well with other dogs and lived with cats in his previous home. Older kids would be best as he does still exhibit some of the crazy puppy behavior. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications can be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Why, oh why does no one want Pumpkin?? It's one of the big mysteries of life. Pumpkin was born at our shelter on June 24, 2020, and was adopted when she was 10 weeks old. She was returned after a year as she was too much energy for the young kids in the family. Pumpkin is a very active and fun loving girl. Her mother was a pit bull type dog but we don't know about the dad. Pumpkin is a gorgeous gal who has been fully vetted. Her fee is $125. Pumpkin has had some basic training and will need some good, consistent exercise. She is not a dog for a total couch potato lifestyle, but she would enjoy cuddling on the couch with someone special. She would do best as the only pet in the home. She would NOT do well with female dogs. NO SMALL ANIMALS. We think she would be fine with older kids. She knows some basic commands thanks to our awesome volunteers and walks pretty well on a leash. Pumpkin would make a happy adventure companion in the right home! Pumpkin really needs someone to take a chance on her. The shelter is not good for her and she's losing weight and is very stressed. We won't give up on her! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Rowen came to us on 4/23/2022 from our friends at the Rescue Network after he was rescued from a reservation in South Dakota. He's now a long term resident who's been overlooked, which is a shame. Having been with us for so long, one of our volunteers was curious about his breed mix and decided to find out with a dog DNA test. He's a pit bull mix with about a quarter of German shepherd and his appearance does hint at these results. He's a big boy who's aged out of puppyhood, but is still a lot of fun and likes to play hard. Rowen loves people and would be a great walking/running companion. Rowen is fully vetted and his $125 adoption fee is sponsored. Rowen is doing really well with basic training but does forget his manners sometimes. He needs someone who is willing and able to provide him with the exercise he needs, along with consistent training and boundaries. He is strong and active. He's a happy and outgoing dog with a slight mischievous streak that is kinda endearing. Cats? Most likely a no for him. He's looking for an adult only home. Teens are fine. He will require regular exercise to keep him happy and well balanced. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Alma is a pit bull type dog in the age range of 5 years who has had quite the history with us. In 2020, at around a year old, we first received her from the city pound after she was held there and never claimed by an owner. She was with us for over a year and was adopted in January 2022. Her owner's situation changed drastically in 2023, so Alma was returned in July 2023 after 18 months in her home. It was hard for both of them, as Alma (known in her home as "Pretty"), was very loved by her owner.  Alma did very well in her home. It was a fairly quiet environment with just Alma and the lady who adopted her. Alma did tend to be pretty protective of her person as it was just the two of them. We do think she would do best in a similar environment. She does seem to respond best to women. She's looking for an adult only home (teens are okay). No other animals. Alma is strong and active and will require regular exercise. Many of our volunteers have a soft spot for her and would like to see her get back into a home for good. She has been fully vetted and her fee is $125. Story
My name is Bandit. I'm a young boy, around 9 months old. My start to life has been a rocky, inconsistentone. I was adopted from a shelter in the Metro area as a young pup. My adopters said they had achange in their living situation and were no longer able to care for me. So here I am, back in a shelteragain hoping for another chance. I struggled with skin allergies in my previous home, but they've beenimproving here at the shelter. With proper and consistent care, I think I'll be scratch free! What a reliefthat will be. Like any 7 month old, I am full of energy and love to play. I'm working on being a good boy, learning what's ok and what's not. I'm still learning, and structure and patience will be great for me so Ican be the best boy I can be.Bandit has been getting medicated baths and oral medication to help with his allergies. He may need meds long term to manage his allergies. Applications for adoption can be found on the homepage of the website. Once you have submitted your application a PCHS staff will contact you regarding an appointment to meet the animals you are interested in.Adoption fee $200+ $30 Microchip fee + tax

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.BEST dog alert! Roswell, aka Marvin, is a muscular mixed breed guy who came to us from the city pound. We were told by someone who knew him that he is a boxer, doberman, pit bull mix. He kind of looks like a boxer on steroids. He turned two years old in June 2023. He's a friendly and very strong guy who loves people. He has been completely vetted and his fee is $125. Roswell was adopted for 6 months and returned in May 2023. His person began to work some pretty long hours and was not able to give him the attention and exercise he requires. Exercise is key for a dog like him. While in his home, he did receive a lot of formal training. He's looking for a home in which he won't be left alone for long hours. He loves to play fetch and is also happy to spoon on the couch with his person once his energy is drained. He has done well with FEMALE dogs and should be okay with kids over 8 years old. He can be a bit of a runner so a secure environment is a must. Cats are a no for him.
