Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Rowen came to us on 4/23/2022 from our friends at the Rescue Network after he was rescued from a reservation in South Dakota. He's now a long term resident who's been overlooked, which is a shame. Having been with us for so long, one of our volunteers was curious about his breed mix and decided to find out with a dog DNA test. He's a pit bull mix with about a quarter of German shepherd and his appearance does hint at these results. He's a big boy who's aged out of puppyhood, but is still a lot of fun and likes to play hard. Rowen loves people and would be a great walking/running companion. Rowen is fully vetted and his $125 adoption fee is sponsored. Rowen is doing really well with basic training but does forget his manners sometimes. He needs someone who is willing and able to provide him with the exercise he needs, along with consistent training and boundaries. He is strong and active. He's a happy and outgoing dog with a slight mischievous streak that is kinda endearing. Cats? Most likely a no for him. He's looking for an adult only home. Teens are fine. He will require regular exercise to keep him happy and well balanced. Watch a TikTok video featuring Rowen below! https://www.tiktok.com/@happy.critter.ranch/video/7204912518278565163 NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications can be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventative, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 6, 2024, 1:55 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Rudy, aka Rootin'Tootin'Rudy and the Rudinator, came to the shelter as an owner surrender on 11/6/2022. The woman had originally found him as a stray in a rural area. She was going to keep him as no owner was located. She decided that Rudy was just too energetic and strong for her to handle. He does have a slight impairment when it comes to his eyesight, perhaps due to an injury he sustained at one time or maybe a genetic thing. He has been vet checked and neutered and his fee is $125. Nothing slows Rudy down. He's a happy and rambunctious dude who literally bounces through life. He will need a lot of basic training and exercise. He keeps his kennel clean at the shelter. An adult only home would be best for Rudy (teens are okay). He is looking for a home with no other animals. A fenced yard would rock Rudy's world! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Alma is a pit bull type dog in the age range of 5 years who has had quite the history with us. In 2020, at around a year old, we first received her from the city pound after she was held there and never claimed by an owner. She was with us for over a year and was adopted in January 2022. Her owner's situation changed drastically in 2023, so Alma was returned in July 2023 after 18 months in her home. It was hard for both of them, as Alma (known in her home as "Pretty"), was very loved by her owner.  Alma did very well in her home. It was a fairly quiet environment with just Alma and the lady who adopted her. Alma did tend to be pretty protective of her person as it was just the two of them. We do think she would do best in a similar environment. She does seem to respond best to women. She's looking for an adult only home (teens are okay). No other animals. Alma is strong and active and will require regular exercise. Many of our volunteers have a soft spot for her and would like to see her get back into a home for good. She has been fully vetted and her fee is $125. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Story arrived as an owner surrender on 10/4/2023, when she was still under a year old. Before she came to us, she'd already been through several homes that didn't give her stability or everything she needed. We named her Story because she already had quite the story to her life for such a young dog. She is shy, but our volunteers have been working with her. She's a petite pit bull type mix, maybe with lab and other breeds. Her fee is $150 and she has been vet checked, spayed, and chipped. Story does need basic training. She hasn't had a lot of work on leash walking but is slowly getting the idea. She's looking for a somewhat calm home in which she won't be left alone for long hours. She needs someone who is ready, willing, and able to work with her on proper socialization and confidence. She is doing really well with other dogs and is gaining confidence. We're thrilled with her progress! Cats? We're not sure. Kids over 10 would be best. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Ingrid is a friendly and stocky pit bull type gal with a beautiful brindle coat. She arrived on 10/23/2023 as she was found "stray", if not abandoned, at a local park. She was never claimed by an owner after fulfilling the legal hold time with us. She is 2+ years old and not too large, at around the 50 pound mark. She has been vet checked and spayed and her fee is $125. Ingrid enjoys the company of people. She would do best in an experienced adult only home (teens should be fine). We do feel that she would prefer to be the only pet in the home. She is pretty well mannered but might need a bit of basic training. She's a princess! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Todd is a large, happy, and beefy pit bull type mix who came to us on 12/3/2023. He was found stray in a rural area, held for the legal hold time, and no one claimed him. He is likely around 2 years old and we are guessing he could be mixed with mastiff and/or bulldog. He has been vet checked and neutered and his fee is $150. Todd is strong and has shown a little bit of dog reactivity at the shelter. This is not unusual as it's a pretty rowdy environment. He has calmed down a bit since his initial arrival. We do think he would do best as the only pet in the home. He could potentially do okay with a nice female dog. He loves people but does need a strong owner who can handle his strength and keep up with his energy level. He does appear to have had some basic training. No small kids for this bulldozer. This is due to his size and strength, not his personality! Story
I am Sam. Doc thinks I was born mid 2020. I enjoy long naps on the beach, long naps on the couch, long naps anywhere. I don't like too many stairs. I would love to have a human sibling. I hope your dog likes being around me too, but am okay being an only dog. I am not sure how I feel about cats. I'm gentle when you share your snacks with me and may drool a bit when getting my water. I know sit, down, paw, wait, and here. Come down and we can go for a walk and get to know each other! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Story
Kita is a wonderful dog! She is 10/11 years old and we have had her for 8 years. She recently lost her companion dog to health issues. We have two children, a 15 year old and a 4 year old. She is great with them! Kita is laid back and very chill. She does get an occasional case of the zoomies. She loves walks, outdoor smells, cuddles, treats and a good game of fetch/tug. She can be vocal when meeting new people and dogs at home. She has never bit any humans or dogs. We are relocating to Hawaii on June 1st. With her being older, I worry about the move being too stressful on her (flying on an airplane, quarantine time away from us). We would like to find a good home for her to live out her golden years.

Story
We have had Benelli since he was a puppy! He was our typical, energized pit! He grew up around an older pit mix (now 7 years old) & a tabby cat (now 6 years old). He is now about 3.5 years old. He is friendly to people & follows around our toddler. He loves cuddles & treats. Unfortunately, we have a behavioral issue where he does not like other dogs that come in front of our house & has gone after another dog. We are no longer able to keep him since this is the second similar incident. He has done great with our older dog and cat. But I think it’d be best he is the only dog in the home for safety as well as a fenced in yard. Over all, he loves pets & it breaks our heart to let him go. We are hoping to find him a loving home!!

If you are ready for a best friend like me, please apply online so we can meet! I cannot wait to find my forever home.Applications for adoption can be found on the homepage of the website.
