Is it you? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2810304##

Hi, I'm Elsa! I’m a fun-loving 4-year-old mixed breed with tons of energy and a big heart! Playing is my favorite thing—especially a good game of fetch or tug-o-war. I’d love to be your one-and-only pet, but I do great with kids and would be thrilled to have some human playmates. If you’re looking for a loyal, playful best friend, I’m your girl! Story

Hi, I'm Thorn. My history is a mystery and the shelter isn't too sure what happened in my past but I arrived scared and nervous. I was in a foster home for a while until the shelter had room for me. I don't seem to like other animals much so I might do best being in an only-animal home. I'm a sweet girl once I get to know you and love to play! I seem to be potty-trained too. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Story

Hi! My name is Raspberry Beret, and I'm a 3 year old, happy-go-lucky Pitbull mix. My foster Mom describes me as a sweet girl who is eager to please and absolutely loves to PLAY! I recently graduated from the Missouri Puppies for Parole program, where I received several months of training. I know all my basic commands, along with a few tricks – I stole the show at graduation! I've been taught to sit and wait politely for my food and treats, and I take them very gently. Learning new things is one of my favorite activities, especially since it makes my foster mom smile. I'm also very well-behaved in my crate and never have accidents in the house. I adore people, but sometimes my energy and playfulness can be a bit much for young children. When it comes to other dogs, I'm quite selective. I might get along with a submissive male dog like I do in my foster home, but otherwise, I prefer to have all your attention for myself. With my affectionate nature, you'll find I have enough love to share for ten dogs – so you won't need anyone else! I can be vocal at times, making me less suited for apartment living, but my foster mom insists I'm a very good girl otherwise. I love playing with toys and chewing on bones (always appropriate items), but my real passion is running through the backyard and going on long walks. As a young and energetic lady, I need a fenced-in back yard in my forever home, or a very active person who enjoys regular walks or hikes. Did I mention that I love to play? But what I love most is SNUGGLING – once we've gotten to know each other of course! My greatest wish is to become a cherished member of a family that will include me in their daily activities. If you enjoy snuggling after going on new adventures together, fill out an application and my foster Mom will contact you so we can meet! More about Raspberry Beret Dog Selective, Good with Adults, Requires a 6-ft Fenced Yard, Crate-trained, House-trained If you are interested, complete the Adoption Application on our website at www.NeedyPaws.org and we will contact you. Story

While Lonzo's ears can't decide how to position themselves, don’t let them fool you. Lonzo is very decisive- and he's decided he's ready for his forever family. At only 2 years old, Lonzo has been through a lot of changes in his life. Originally found as a stray, he landed himself at the city animal control before making his way to us. He then spent some time in prison (his crime was being too cute), where he competed the Puppies 4 Parole program, which helped him gain confidence and learn lots of cool tricks. Now settled into his foster home, we've learned what a wonderful dog Lonzo is. He lives with a variety of dogs, who he is fantastic with. His foster mom is able to bring in any new dog into the home and knows that Lonzo will welcome them with open arms. Lonzo does well with kids, but would be best suited for older children/teens. Lonzo is housetrained, crate trained and is an easy going guy. In Lonzo's dream home, he would have a yard with a 5-6 foot fence in a quiet neighborhood- Lonzo's biggest pet peeve is people mowing the lawn (we all have our quirks!) We think he'd like to have a dog friend or two, but he would be fine without as well. If he's allowed to sleep in bed, that's even better, as Lonzo loves to cuddle with his people. If you think you'd like to meet this amazing guy, apply today! If you are interested, complete the Adoption Application on our website at www.NeedyPaws.org and we will contact you. Story

Hi, I'm Romeo! I was brought here as a tiny puppy from a place where I was barely getting fed. I was adopted shortly after and recently got returned due to weird circumstances. I suddenly had two injuries- an eye injury and a leg injury. I have gotten my eye removed and healed just fine. The shelter is still raising funds to get my leg surgery. I'm a sweet, goofy, and well behaved boy! I get along with everyone but I do have a tendacy to chase cats so I might be better in a home without cats. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Story

I have my PhD in Snuggling! I’m a sweet pup who may take a minute to warm up, but once I do, I’ll steal your heart! My foster mom says I look a lot like a little Dachshund, and at 6 pounds at 10 weeks old , I may grow into a medium-sized girl. I’ve already mastered the stairs (not bad for these short little legs!) . I’m also an excellent coworker. I’ll happily sit nearby and stare at you with my irresistible puppy-dog eyes. I’m learning my commands—including “sit,” “come,” and “go potty.” I sleep nicely at night with my littermate, too. I’ve enjoyed meeting dogs of all sizes—even though the dogs in my foster home are about 70 pounds bigger than me! They haven’t quite figured out how to play with a tiny pup like me yet, but that certainly hasn’t stopped me from trying. Like any young pup, I’m still learning and will need continued training. For my first few months, I’d do best in a home where someone isn’t gone for more than about 4 hours at a time while I continue learning and growing. A fenced-in yard would be a wonderful bonus! If you’re looking for a sweet, goofy, snuggly puppy who may take a minute to warm up—but will absolutely steal your heart once she does—I just might be your girl. Think we could be a match? Fill out an application so we can meet! I’m ready for my furever home after October 15th If interested, please complete the Adoption Application on our website at www.NeedyPaws.org and we will contact you. Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Our $295 adoption fee includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip.
