This adorable face belongs to PJ, a truly sweet girl who came to us as a stray after a kind stranger contacted our officers upon noticing she was underweight and lingering on their property with no one looking for her. Thanks to that call, PJ is now safe and ready for a fresh start. ??PJ has done more than tolerate every interaction here at the shelter — if we had a chart with star stickers, her column would be completely full! ? She’s easy to get in and out of her kennel, happily sits for treats, and will even give a little bark to remind you that she knows you’ve got more goodies for her.Since arriving at ICAS, PJ has been tested with a similar-sized, spayed female dog. While she was a bit stiff at first, it didn’t take long at all before she warmed up and burst into a glorious zoomie fit that perfectly showed off her happy, playful energy! ????This super sweet girl is ready for her family to find her, and we invite you to come meet her in person to learn all about her wonderful personality.?? Adoption Tips:• Meet-and-greets with other dogs and children are always recommended prior to adoption to ensure a great fit for everyone.• Please remember the 3-3-3 Rule when adopting a shelter pet: ?? 3 days to decompress and unwind ?? 3 weeks to learn routines and build trust ?? 3 months to fully feel at home and show their true personality?? ?? Meet Madea: Big Personality, Bigger Heart! ?? If you’ve ever seen Tyler Perry’s Madea, you know she’s sassy, bold, and always the life of the party. Our Madea might not wear a wig or crack jokes, but she’s got that same unstoppable spirit and infectious energy! Madea is a 72lb bundle of joy who truly doesn’t realize her size—she’ll toss her weight around like she’s light as a feather, especially when she’s excited (which is all the time)! Treats make her extra wiggly, and you can’t help but grin when you’re around her—her happiness is absolutely contagious. This girl is all about fun and living in the moment. When she meets other dogs, her enthusiasm sometimes gets the best of her, and she tends to ignore doggy etiquette. Even when another dog gives her a warning bark, Madea just keeps on trying to play—she’ll definitely need to work on her canine communication skills. She’s a strong walker and can pull on the leash, so she’d love someone who can help her learn to take it slow and enjoy the stroll. With a little training and a lot of love, Madea will make you laugh ?? every single day.If you’re ready for a sassy, happy, and endlessly loving companion, Madea is your girl! Come meet her at the shelter (??430 Bristol Dr., Statesville, NC) and see if she’s the Madea to your family’s story.

? Meet Morris — Ready for a Fresh Start ?This handsome boy wandered up to a kind stranger’s home and decided he simply didn’t want them to leave. Unsure of his demeanor, the finder contacted Animal Control, and ACO Johnson safely brought him to ICAS. With no microchip and no family coming forward during his stray hold, Morris is now ready to find a home of his very own—and he’s hoping to ring in the New Year with a family to call his own. While Morris was a little unsure at first, he has blossomed into the sweetest, most lovable boy. During a recent meet-and-greet with another dog, he greeted his new friend with instant tail wags and curious sniffs. When playtime ended, Morris laid down in protest, gazing longingly after his new buddy with the most affectionate eyes. It was absolutely precious. ??Morris knows sit, loves people, and is ready to give his whole heart to the right family. ????? Meet Benny: A Gentle Soul Looking for a Patient Home or Rescue Placement ?????Benny is a truly sweet soul who is having a tough time adjusting to life in the shelter. He originally came to us as a stray—who was spotted running loose, but was so scared that no one could get close enough to catch him. It took some tasty treats and a humane trap to bring Benny to safety. While he was in good physical condition upon arrival to us, it was clear he hadn’t been well socialized and was very unsure of people.Little by little he started to trust us, as our staff spent quiet moments with him, winning him over with treats. Now, he greets us with a wagging tail at the front of his cage with eyes are full of hope, showing us the light inside him and his willingness to trust. He has come a long way and will need a special home—one with a family who understands he needs patience and time to adjust, at his own pace. He is still nervous about many new experiences like walking on a leash, so he is currently preferring to be carried. We aren`t giving up and are working every day to help him feel more comfortable with this.Because he is so sensitive to noise and commotion, Benny would do best in a home without small children. He would likely thrive with another confident and friendly dog who can help him learn what it means to be part of a family, and to encourage him to come out of his shell. We know that a loving, patient home would make all the difference for this special boy.Benny is waiting to meet a gentle, understanding family who can give him the loving home he’s been hoping for. And remember the 3-3-3 Rule when it comes to adopting a shelter pet. It takes 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to settle in, and 3 months to truly feel at home, build trust, and show their real personality! As always, we recommend meet-and-greets with resident dogs and children to ensure the perfect fit.
