At approximately 1 year and 7 months old, Chubbs is a handsome black-coated dog with a small white patch on his chest, white-tipped back toes, and adorable erect ears that fold at the tips. He is full of personality and has a lot of potential to become the best boy he can be. Chubbs is a good walker, enjoys car rides, loves attention and pets, and is often happiest staying close to his people. Staff and volunteers who have spent time with him have gotten to see what a sweet and smart boy he is. He knows “sit,” enjoys affection, and does well in playgroups with other dogs.Chubbs is looking for a special adopter who understands resource guarding and is willing to continue working with him. In a foster home, Chubbs showed guarding of his food bowl, toys, and people. His food bowl guarding resulted in a bite, but he showed excellent bite inhibition and did not break the skin. Chubbs can also guard resources from other dogs, so the best home for him would likely be as the only dog. He has successfully shared a kennel with another dog at the shelter, where they share a bed and water bucket without him showing guarding behavior; however, dogs housed together at the shelter are separated for feedings and do not have toys in their kennels. His adopter will need to understand his guarding behavior, practice appropriate management, and be committed to continued training.Chubbs also has prey drive and, while in foster, broke through a baby gate to chase the resident cats. The cats were quickly secured and no incident occurred, but Chubbs should not live with cats or other small animals. He does not enjoy being left alone and has shown separation anxiety that has led to destructive behavior, including destroying window blinds. A thoughtful plan for alone time, including crate training and high-value enrichment such as frozen stuffed Kongs, will be important. Chubbs has also been a stray to the shelter three times, and his foster home reported that he can be a door darter. He will need a secure yard, should never be left unattende

Stormi is a young cutie who lived in one home for most of her life before to coming to the shelter. Her recent foster reports that she is friendly, snuggly, and loves to play. She is happy chilling on the couch with a human and another canine, but also loves going outside for walks and to play. She is very quiet. She barked only a very few times, and only when she thought there was an intruder. Even then, she let out only 2-3 barks to alert the family. She is quite trainable, immediately learning to sit pretty for snacks after watching the foster’s dog and to go to a separate room for breakfast and dinner. She got along well with the foster’s dog, asking politely to play and accepting his answer if he respectfully declined. She slept in her crate the whole night without any problems or complaints. She would be fine without another dog, too, as she bonds quickly with her humans. She is afraid of loud noises, which explains why she might not show her true personality at a shelter. That said, she decompressed quickly in a real home.Here’s what some of her volunteer friends had to say:“Stormi is a reserved but very sweet girl who warms up quickly. She’s done well with her kennelmates in the shelter and is easy to handle and pleasant to spend time with. She has an independent personality but appreciates a bit of affection and pets. Very nice girl!”“Stormi was a bit shy but walked well on the leash. We went to a quiet play yard; I sat on the bench in the play yard and she came to me and took treats from my hand and let me pet her. She’s really sweet but scared in the shelter environment.”.Stormi has shared her kennel and has been playful and easygoing when meeting other dogs in playgroup. Staff said that “Once she relaxed, she was very easygoing and engaged in play.
