Story
🐾 Looking for a Foster or Permanent Home for My Dog, Ranger 🐾 I’m looking for a loving permanent home or a foster for at least 3 months for my dog, Ranger. I don’t want to give him up, but I’m currently in a living situation that doesn’t allow pets, and I’m unsure when I’ll be able to move somewhere that does. Ranger is a 1-year-old neutered male — a mixed breed (35% American Staffordshire Terrier, 22% German Shepherd) — and he’s up to date on all vaccines. He’s house and crate trained, full of energy, and very affectionate. Ranger would do best in a home with older children since he doesn’t always realize how big and strong he is. He loves to play and thrives on attention, exercise, and companionship. I’m located in the Lee County area and am hoping to find someone nearby who can help care for him — whether temporarily or long-term — until I can provide a stable home again. If you or someone you know might be interested in fostering or adopting Ranger, please reach out for more

Story
Meet Charles Charles is busy living his best life for his circumstances at the moment of waiting for his chance to leave the shelter system. He is currently staying at a foster center while undergoing the final treatment for heartworm disease. He has been collecting hearts at the vet hospital where he goes for care, such a stunningly handsome dog. He is a charmer as well, and doesn't let his good looks go to his head. "Stay humble" is his motto. He is a friend to all dogs, adjusts his play style, enjoys a good romp in the yard and then to the sofa for cuddles. Did we mention he loves people? If you are interested in fostering or fostering to adopt Charles, reach out to us either via application at www.k9ei.dog or email for more information at info@k9ei.dog Charles is waiting for you!

Story
Meet Kira 🐾 Kira was adopted in Champaign while I was attending the University of Illinois. When I moved back home, she adjusted well and got along with my Jack Russell at first. However, due to her size and playful energy, she sometimes overwhelms him, and my family feels it’s best to find her a home where she can play freely. Kira is a very sweet and gentle dog who loves to nap, spend time outdoors, and cuddle. She’s calm inside the house and enjoys relaxing next to her person. It breaks my heart to rehome her, but I’m hoping to find someone who can give her the space, love, and attention she deserves. Ideal Home: • Someone with space for her to play safely • No small or reactive dogs • A loving, patient owner who enjoys both playtime and naps Kira truly is a loving companion who will bring a lot of warmth and joy to her new family. 💕

Story
Meet Raya! Raya is a 6-month-old Staffy mix with a heart full of love and a playful, curious nature. She’s sweet, a little reserved at first, but once she warms up, she’s incredibly affectionate and loyal. Raya gets along great with dogs of all ages and sizes and enjoys their company during both playtime and quiet moments. She loves soft toys, exploring the yard, and going on gentle adventures. When it’s time to unwind, Raya is happiest curled up next to her favorite person. Crate trained and making big strides with her potty training, Raya is well on her way to becoming a well-mannered companion. She’s doing great on leash walks—though she might pull a bit when excited—and is very treat motivated, which makes her a quick learner. She already knows how to sit and is eager to learn more. Raya eats two meals a day, enjoys treats in between, and thrives on affection and routine. Raya would do best in a home that offers gentle guidance, companionship, and plenty of love. If you’re looking for a sweet, snuggly, and loyal pup who’s growing more confident every day, Raya could be the perfect fit. Apply today to meet her! Our standard adoption fee is $375 if paid by cash or check, or $385 if paid by credit card (which includes a $10 processing fee). This fee covers spay/neuter surgery when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative, and microchipping. In order to be considered for adoption, we require a fully completed application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with your entire family. Please note that submitting an application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee approval—it simply allows us to begin the review process. If you are interested in adopting or would like additional information, please email us at adopt@safehavendogsIL.org to request an application. Keep in mind that the breed and size listed in each dog's biography are our best educated guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse the adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant for any reason.

Story
Meet Margot – or as her foster family lovingly calls her, “Sweet Lady Margot” – the hidden gem everyone has been missing out on! At around 2 years old, Margot has already mastered all the hard stuff—she’s fully housebroken, crate trained, walks like a pro on a leash, and has fantastic house manners. While the puppies steal all the attention, Margot just sits there with her big smile and silky, seal-colored fur thinking, “Why deal with all that chewing, potty training, and chaos when you could have ME?” She knows “sit,” is working on “stay” and “leave it,” and loves showing off how smart she is. Margot also has a favorite cow toy that she proudly carries around like her own emotional support cow—it’s the cutest thing ever! Margot is wonderful with adults and children alike, making her a great fit for just about any family. With dogs, she prefers slow introductions, but once she warms up, she’s all in—she and her foster dog sibling are now best buds. Margot is the perfect mix of playful sidekick and professional snuggler. Whether you’re heading out for a walk or curling up on the couch, she just wants to be by your side. She’s sweet, silly, easygoing, and basically the whole package—how she hasn’t had a single meet-and-greet yet is beyond us! Whoever scoops up Margot is going to hit the jackpot. Story
Billy, Billy, Billy! The favorite amongst police officers. Our baby boy is the most handsome guy with piercing greyish eyes and a personality as big as the moon! Billy was a stray that was never claimed and sat for months in the police station. We were luckily able to find a great foster home for him and he has now completed 8 sessions of training with our hand-picked trainer for manners and leash walking. He will need continued work on greeting people and leash walking - FYI. He knows sit, kennel, paw, stay, and down and is house-trained, crate-trained and is working on a release command. Billy is a foodie and his favorite things to eat are....STRAWBERRIES AND BLUEBERRIES! This dude loves people and he especially loves his human foster sister who is 8 yrs old. He is good with kids and loves to be in the center of their shenanigans. He isn't fond of other animals so he must be in a home with no other dogs or cats. Children should be sturdy or 5 and up. He is known to steal kids toys as his own, but my mom always said that if its on the floor, its fair game! The human neighbors like to play with Billy over the fence. He brings his ball to the fence where the neighbor will pick up and throw the ball for hours with him. Billy likes to Netflix and nap, get belly rubs, play fetch, and eat chicken jerky! Billy also has some funny quirks - he makes alien sounds, likes to flip his water bowl or food bowl to let you know he's empty, he will let you know he has to potty when he won't get out of your personal space. Billy is learning to be less mouthy - so an assortment of chew toys, non-rawhide bones and licky mats are a must.
