Story
Boo Boo was surrendered to the shelter alongside another dog, when their owner was forced to move and could not secure housing that allowed pets. Described as a sweet girl, Boo Boo was dearly loved but sadly couldn’t remain with the family due to housing instability. In her time at the shelter, Boo Boo has shown that she is a gentle and loving soul who enjoys the quiet moments in life. She walks nicely on a leash—slow and steady, a perfect partner for someone who appreciates a peaceful stroll. Volunteers describe her as calm, affectionate, and incredibly tolerant during handling. She responds well to gentle affection, sits politely for treats, and has become a favorite among those who’ve spent time with her. Boo Boo would thrive in a calm home. She is crate-trained, reportedly housebroken, and used to living indoors with both adults and children. Her ideal day includes leisurely walks, tasty treats (frozen blueberries are a favorite), and cozy cuddle time with someone who will love her as deeply as she’ll love them. Behavioral Notes Per volunteer 6/30: Boo Boo was asleep when I approached her kennel. She slowly got up as I unlocked the door and stepped forward. Boo Boo calmly exited the kennel and shelter. Her walking pace was slow to moderate with no pulling. Boo Boo sat next to me while I was on the curb calmly watching the traffic and people while I stroked her back and head. Boo Boo sat very still and calm and was not vocal. When I got up to head back, she did the same and we walked calmly back to the shelter. Boo Boo sat on command for treats & took them nicely. She was so calm throughout handling. Boo Boo walked through the kennels quietly and calmly. What a pleasure! Volunteer 6/26/25: Boo boo is a gentle soul who just enjoys the simple things in life. She walks very well but slow on the leash. So if you’re the type of person who is always fast on the move, she would be great to have as a reminder to slow down and enjoy the time outdoors. She really enjoyed some pepperoni and being outside. She was not a fan of having to go back into her kennel. She sat firm on the ground and wouldn’t move lol. One of the staff members picked her up to put her back in the kennel. She was super tolerate of being handled and picked up (even though I felt bad putting her back in the kennel). She deserves a life outside of this shelter. 06/27/2025 In a previous home, this animal lived harmoniously with children. Medical Notes 06/27/2025 This dog has been observed to have shelter acquired upper respiratory infection (URI), or a "doggy cold". They have been started on medication, and will be monitored for resolution of the respiratory infection. They will need a veterinarian to examine them before they receive surgery, if they are not already altered. Plan: 3 tabs doxy SID for 14 days 06/25/2025 Microchip Found? Y/N: no placed here Eyes - red eyes Ears - dirt/ waxy Nose - clean/ moist Mouth/Teeth/Gums -pink and moist slight yellow discoloration on all teeth Coat & Skin - clean coat no fleas Urogenital - intact female - no tattoo present Gait/Mobility - no lameness Attitude: BAR Overall Assessment: 06/26/2025 Canine Ovariohysterectomy – Completed Surgeon: Dr. Libby Martin Recovery: Smooth Post-op care: Carprofen and Buprenorphine administered. Story
Meet Millie – Your Sunshine-Loving, Toy-Obsessed Best Friend! Millie is a 7–8-year-old, 55 lb sweetheart who spent far too long in a so-called shelter where dogs weren’t allowed to leave. After years of being overlooked, she’s finally getting a chance to shine—and she’s making the most of it!Millie is a gentle, medium-energy girl who thrives when she’s outside, lounging in the sun or stretching her legs in the yard. While the kennel environment stresses her out, she blossoms when she’s free to relax and just be herself. She adores toys (and prefers to keep them to herself!), and balances playful bursts with long, peaceful lounging sessions. She enjoys the company of other dogs and is perfectly happy alternating between group playtime and solo toy time. She’s okay on a leash and has that ideal mix of playful spirit and laid-back attitude. Millie would do best in a home with older kids and a yard where she can soak up the sun. After all she’s been through, Millie deserves a soft place to land—and whoever gives her that will be lucky to have such a lovable, loyal companion. Story
Rehoming Our Sweet Carmel 🐾 Carmel is now 2 years old and still the same loving, energetic pup he’s always been. He loves to play, snuggle, and be around people. I’m looking for a kind, committed family who can give him the attention and time he truly deserves. Carmel was raised with lots of care since birth and is crate-trained and almost fully house-trained. He occasionally has small accidents but always tries to use his pee pad. He’s very close to his brother, Tiger, but I believe they’d do better in separate homes due to their dominant personalities. With my demanding schedule and other dogs to care for, I’m unable to give Carmel the freedom and daily interaction he needs. He spends too much time in his cage, and it’s just not fair to him anymore. If you or someone you know is looking for a sweet, playful, and loyal companion, please reach out. Carmel has so much love to give and would thrive in a home where he can run, play, and be truly loved.

Story
Meet Janet! Janet is a bold and beautiful 4 month old pup, likely a pit mix, full of spunk and personality. She weights 21 pounds. She loves to play tug—whether it’s with a towel or her leash—and she’s already learning the ropes. Janet comes when called, walks well on a leash (though she’s easily distracted by snacks on the ground!), and is learning that good behavior earns treats. She’s not fully housebroken yet, but she’s reliable about going when taken outside. Janet is affectionate, a little mouthy like most puppies her age, and extremely loyal—she’s the kind of dog who bonds deeply and never looks back. On walks, she often checks behind her to make sure her person is coming too. Janet came from a tough situation and is still learning that she doesn’t have to worry about her next meal. She’s looking for someone patient and loving to help her grow into the amazing dog she’s meant to be. Apply at bcaaofnj.orgInterested in adopting this pet?Click here for BCAA's on-line Application!
