Story
Dip is a fun-loving, affectionate girl who's ready for her forever home. It won't take much to make her happy, just the basics.- food and water with an occasional Frosty Paws or Honey Hut run- a comfy place to sleep (your couch will be just fine) - daily exercise to reach her goal of 10,000 steps a day as recommended by the CDC (a kiddie pool is a plus)- a best friend to hang out with and remind her what a good girl she is - a car and chauffeur who doesn't mind having a 60+ pound lap dog as a passenger!- would prefer a home without cats or kids

Story
Grey is such a bro. Grey is a male American Staffordshire terrier that weighs 61 pounds. He is estimated to be 2 years old. Grey was found as a stray and no one claimed him. He was very thin upon intake and just plain sad. In the few weeks that he has been with us, he has eaten and gotten much needed TLC. He has gained some weight and is overall a body wiggle pro. He is very strong on leash and would benefit from general obedience and manners. He is a full upper body workout. He will work your core, shoulders, back and patience. His giant blockhead is almost as big as his heart. He is very loving and friendly. He loves to be outside. A fenced in yard is ideal for Grey. He has a medium energy level. Because he was a stray, we don't know anything about Grey's background. Compatibility with children, cats, and dogs is unknown; no small children please. At the shelter, he is unphased by the other dogs. As always, a meet and greet with your dog is required. Grey is available for our foster to adopt program which means you can foster him in your home until he finishes vetting which includes neuter, vaccines, heartworm testing, and a microchip. Please email dogadoptions@parmashelter.org and fill out an adoption application online to meet Grey. Grey's adoption fee is $160. Grey is the type of dog that will gladly accompany you on the couch to watch movies. But when you get up to get a snack, you gotta find another spot to sit because he has taken over the whole couch. Such a bro. He can be adopted outside of Parma.

Story
Allow us to introduce you to Norris. This charming fella came to us some time ago as a stray. Initially timid, Norris has come a long way since then, now reveling in playful activities. With a toy, a yard, or even a baby pool, Norris is the happiest boy when he is enjoying swimming and playtime. His play style might involve a bit of vocalization, but it's all in the spirit of fun. As far as Norris is concerned…there is never enough toys! After his energetic bursts, Norris finds joy in stretching out and lounging. He adores nestling his nose under your arm for head rubs and sitting snugly between your legs. At around 2 years old, he's a leash-walking pro, making him a great companion for an active lifestyle. He will need an active household. While he's tolerant with other dogs, we believe he'd thrive best as the sole pet in the household. We do think he would thrive with someone who has a bit of experience with owning dogs. He would thrive with someone who knows how to lead him to be the best boy. Due to his exuberant nature, we recommend a home without young children and a securely fenced yard for this lively boy. This sweetheart just needs his very own forevermore. Is that with you? If you are interested in Norris, send us a message to set up a potential meet and greet!

READ FULL ADOPTION POST Hey world, we’d like you to get reacquainted with our Twig. He was briefly adopted out, and it didn’t work out. But that’s okay. This adorable guy had a rocky start, but he's been blossoming in the care of an amazing foster and her pup. Twig's past is a mystery, while we know he was abandoned and emaciated…what he went through prior had to be bad. He is scared of being hurt by those he doesn’t know, and he cowers with fear when a voice is raised. He's got a heart as big as his loyalty, and he's fiercely protective of his chosen humans, kind of like a pint-sized chihuahua with a heart of gold. Now, Twig's looking for a special human with a PhD in "Rescue Dog Rehab," preferably a widow or a lone ranger – no kiddos or party animals please. We're talking about a tranquil, zen-like household here, folks. But here's the magic of Twig: when he loves, he loves with all his heart. You'll never find a more loyal and devoted dog. We say that a lot, but we truly mean it with Twig. His love is nothing short of inspiring. We’ve had him working with a trainer, and he's come a long way. Once he trusts you, you'll see just how sweet and loving he can be. His adoption process will include a few meet and greets with him and the trainer for a smooth transition and to provide you with the tools to understand and support him. Here's the cool part - he's great with other dogs, so if you've got a four-legged friend, they'll be instant BFFs. He is crate trained and housebroken. He can get bored and can occasionally chew, so toys are a must! Twig's hobbies include cuddling, soaking up the sun, earning treats like a pro, and going on car rides. He's a laid-back dude, always happy to be by your side. So, if you're a compassionate, patient, and experienced dog owner, ready to open your heart to Twig's quirks and all, reach out to us and help share his story!

This beautiful 2 year old brindle beauty is Violet! Violet is a 2 year old pittie and is full grown at 60 lbs. Violet has such a beautiful soul! She's a very shy girl, but once you spend some time with her and get that first tail wag, your heart will just melt. Violet recently went to the vet and did great at her appointment! It was her first time going to the vet ever, because in her past life she was used for breeding and never got medical done. Violet was quiet and stoic getting all of her shots and even her heartworm test done which was negative. Good job, Violet! Violet recently moved into a foster home where is is doing great! She is learning all of the good things about living in a loving home for the first time. She can't wait to find a forever family who will give her the happy ever after that she deserves. Story
My name is Betsy (Ross) and I made a freedom trip to Ohio after pending euthanization in South Carolina. Travel was stressful but we made it! Starting out, I was shut down and scared but the people here were patient. The dogs were eager to play with me but no way could I trust them right away. Day by day, it was like chipping away at a brick wall and they started to see a lot of potential with me. They say I'm like; "a woman with her walls up but deep down is super caring. Just does not show it all the time." Stubborn but sweet. I "act" independent but deep down, I really enjoy being with my people - secretly a shadow. When it's time for a nap, I like to put my head on my foster mom. But, I don't want her to know I like her "too" much so sometimes I'll sleep at the bottom of the bed to keep her guessing. We even sleep out with other dogs which I don't mind as long as they don't bite my feet - very sensative. Sometimes I have to give Spudz a piece of my mind (a correction). He's so annoying but he listens and no one gets hurt. Speaking of stubborn, I can't stand being in a crate. They say it's like dragging a boulder so they gave up. Not even 20 treats can trick me to walk in there. My foster mom said if I can be nice to Spudz AND behave in the house, she'll make an exception to join the "Freeroaming Crew"... which is just Spudz. (I think she spoils him too much. He gained like 5 pounds in a week!) Regardless, I passed my tests with flying colors. So, she let's me stay out when she's not home. I just sleep, minding my own business. No potty accidents because potty goes outside, duh. My tail always wags when she comes back home and I love to greet her at the door. Right now, I don't have many friends. Mom says I play too rough (non-aggressive) and not many of the dogs can keep up. But, I only play rough outdoors never indoors. They say that I seem to know the difference and thankfully, know how to disengage when playing. Guess not every dog was built to box and wrestle. I'm proudfully the toughest in my league! Spudz always taps out. So, because of that, I'll need to find the right dog that can keep up and more on the submissive side. Slow introductions (with dogs) are a must which they'll help with because I'm not so quick to trust others. However, I'm okay with retiring my boxing and just being the only dog. Kids are great, too. Do you need a babysitter? I just want to be loved.. Some other fun facts about me; • I love going for walks and doing pretty good on the leash. • Stainless Steel Bowls make me nervous so I have to eat off a plate. It took mom a while to figure it out. We're on track now to gaining more weight. We're not sure how or why we got to this point. • I'm a pretty low-moderate energy dog and go with the flow. Napping all day? Okay! A day full of adventures? Let's go! • My paperwork says I'm about 5-6 Years Old. They're lying. Obviously. I don't look a day over 6 months. My face is from a powdered donut. • I'm loyal and protective. No one better touch my mom's sandwich! But, I don't beg for it or try to steal it. I just want to make sure she eats, too. Spudz stole her last two dinners and Thor stole her steak last week. People I'm not familiar with who try to tower over her, I watch like a hawk. You better not touch without permission. As long as she's cool, I'm cool. If she's screaming, I'm kicking your butt and if you make her cry, there's a hole in the backyard for you. Spudz dug it for you. So, I'm a tough girl but I'm sweet. Perhaps I'll be a little shy showing you how much I really care about you but over time you'll see... I just don't want to get hurt again... Will you come adopt me? In return, I'll make sure no one hurts you.

Update 6/3/24: I passed my dog evaluation with flying colors and made 5 new dog friends! Hi .... I'm Miss Millie. I'm so grateful for Love-A-Stray because I was abandoned at Miller Road Park in Avon Lake, the ACO found me wrapped in a blanket;-(. I was taken to the Avon Lake Animal Clinic and after no one claimed me, I was turned over to Love-A-Stray. LAS had me vaccinated and I tested negative for HW. I received 2 medicated baths, ear meds and skin meds. I was underweight, but now I gained 6 lbs and I weigh 57 pounds. Dr Krupka said I'm 7 or 8 years old and my teeth look fantastic. I had some skin issues that are clearing up and I'm looking really GOOD! I'm in a great new foster home and my foster said I'm the perfect house dog!! I walk well on lead and I'm just a very sweet doggy! I would like a cat-less home. If you are interested in me, please submit an online application, so my friends at Love-A-Stray can determine if you are a good match. If you have questions, please email info@loveastraydog.com. LAS does not do out of state adoptions, due to our trial adoption process. My adoption fee is $ 50.00. If you can't foster or adopt me, please consider donating for my care. Visit www.loveastraydog.com for PayPal, Venmo or mail a check - Attn: Millie to LAS, PO Box 125, Avon Lake, Oh 44012. Thank you very MUCH!

Story
Meet Ruby Roo!! Ruby Roo is also searching for a new TEMPORARY FOSTER HOME while she waits for the perfect forever home!! Ruby Roo is a young pitty weighing about 70 lbs and she is a sweetheart. Ruby is a little shy when meeting new people but after just a little bit of time and patience she warms up, especially for a treat! Ruby Roo is house trained, crate trained, knows her basic commands...she is smart and learns fast. Ruby is fully vaccinated and spayed. Ruby Roo was found running loose, no collar or microchip. A great family took her in to keep her safe and reported finding her to all the required agencies, but no one was looking for this sweet girl ;-(. They contacted Love-A-Stray to help find her a forever home. She has the funniest way of laying with her paws tucked under, as shown in photo, maybe she is praying for her new home! Ruby would do best with a male dog friend or as the only dog. Her current foster has older dogs and Ruby Roo has the typical energy of a young dog, so she is looking for a new foster or home where she can run and play. Ruby would love a fenced yard but is it not required. She has lots of energy and at 70 pounds could knock a toddler down, so we are looking for an active home with children over the age of 10 years old. If you are interested in Ruby Roo please submit an online application so we can learn a little about you to make sure Ruby Roo would be a perfect match for you and your family. We are looking for adoption within a 100 mile radius of Avon Lake Ohio, due to our trial adoption process. Adoption fee/donation is $100.00. If you have specific questions, please email the adoption coordinator at info@loveastraydog.com If you can't foster or adopt, please consider donating to help us with medical expenses and ongoing care. You can mail your donation to: Love-A-Stray, P.O.
