Hello! I am new to the shelter! Please keep checking my profile for updates as the staff gets to know me better! If this dog has been successful in our play groups it is not a guarantee that a dog will be social with other dogs in their home or in public settings. Dogs are individuals and have personality conflicts, just like us. Play groups do not guarantee that territorial or resource guarding issues will not surface in the home. While play groups do help us get to know the dog`s better, once they are adopted their new environments and new relationships will influence their behavior in ways we cannot predict. The Adoption Fee Includes:- initial canine distemper combination vaccination- first worming or stool check- rabies vaccination (for animals over 3 months of age)- 24 Petwatch microchipping- flea treatment/preventative- spaying or neutering-heartworm testingAdoption fee: $135.00Per state law, ALL ADOPTERS must purchase a non-refundable 2025 dog license at time of adoption for any canine three months and older. Story
Frankie - 3-year-old Pit mix, about 70lbs, crate trained, muzzle trained, potty trained, walks amazing on a leash without pulling, and is a sweet lovey cuddle bug. Extremely loyal and loving. Good with dogs of all sizes, but needs to eat separately. Unsure of some strangers at first, but warms up fast with proper intro. Gives great cues when scared or uncomfy. Not ideal for kids as he was scared by a kid in the past and nipped in self-defense. Would be best in a home experienced with dogs that can read his cues – he is worth it!

Story
Part Staffy? Part Adorable? Full on adorable is Thor! He is just not another black dog; if fact, he is so fun that if you meet him, you will see why we love this breed at the shelter (Thor is a courtesy post for the Brooke County Animal Shelter in BeechBottom, WV, about 45 minutes from Pittsburgh).  Thor is a young adult -- about a year or two old who sports a smooth, sleek and easy-to-care for coat and ears that stand up or down according to his mood! Thor likes to bounce and hop when he is happy and his joy is infectious. He is great with other dogs and always has his eyes on people looking for love and attention. Thor promises to bring the best of his breed traits including lots of contact and snuggles as well as being game for going wherever you go. He ADORES toys, especially if they squeak. This boy is medium weight, ready-to-travel size and is game for anything as long as he his with his family! He can be a bit excitable initially but quickly calms down to scoot close for cuddles. Thor is almost impossible to resist when he gazes up at you with eyes filled with love and kindness. Please contact the Brooke County Animal Shelter at 304-394-0800 for more information or to arrange a meet and greet with Thor.June 30, 2025, 10:16 am

Story
Kenai is a sweet Staffie/Boxer mix that is looking for his forever home and the shelter is hoping that won't take long! This fellow would make a great addition to your family with his easy-going manner and sweet temperament.  Kenai arrived at the shelter as a stray so there isn't much history for this one-year old fellow. We do know that he has a lifetime of love and companionship to offer and a huge drive to find his forever home.  To meet Kenai, please contact the Brooke County Animal Shelter at 304-394-0800. April 6, 2025, 12:40 pm

**WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there! My name is Buck. I'll be 2 years old in March and I weigh about 68 lbs. I was surrendered to the pound and I am now looking for a new, loving family to join. I once lived on a farm with lots of room to run, but then we moved to the city and when I got my outside time, I had to go in a kennel. I didn't like that very much, so I found ways to escape so I could run (I was intact, so that didn't help). I am a very sweet boy, but I am big, strong and energetic. I would do best with a bully breed savvy owner that is assertive and not afraid of my size. I am very smart and I listen very well if I know you're not going to have my shenanigans. I have been good at the the pound around other dogs. I should meet any dogs I'll live with, just to make sure we're compatible. I was a house dog before making my way into the pound and I am said to be housebroken. I do a good job of keeping my kennel clean here at the pound. If you're looking for a big, sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Meet the heavy duty but also gentle and shy Harley! Harley is a great boy looking for his forever family to find him and adopt him! Harley is okay with other dogs but would benefit from slow, patient introductions, and older children as he doesn't like it when children get super touchy. He is a big, emotional loverboy who wants all your love, attention, affection, and care. He is a proud terrier mix, male, and medium sized at around 52lbs. He's good with all people and would love a walking partner who could show him how to be more comfortable on the leash! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)
