Story
Meet Lilah Lilah and her siblings were orphaned and left at a high kill shelter. What?! We rescued them and brought them to the safety of our no kill shelter so we could give them a new beginning. Lilah is the most timid of the three, but that doesn't mean she's not friendly! It just means that she takes comfort from her siblings and anyone who will sit on the ground and offer their lap to her. Lilah will make a fun family dog and be a total lap dog when she gets tired. Lilah has green/hazel eyes and a long tail dipped in white, and has a beautiful white chest and front left leg. Lilah is one of the smaller of the five puppies. The puppies are calm. They love snuggling and we spend a lot of time socializing them so they know what love feels like. She's learning to walk on a leash. We think they are Australian cattle dog (red heeler) and who knows what else . . . We think Lilah will top out at about 30-35 pounds once she's through growing. She and her sisters are amazing, not mouthy, very gentle, fun, affectionate, curious and ready to find their furever homes. If you love a heeler mix, and a cute little wrinkled face, Lilah and her siblings are just about perfect. Get your application in at www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. On our home page, please select "How to Adopt" to get to our dog application. Please email our shelter (smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net) or call our shelter at 706-865-4135 and leave a message to make sure we received your application. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out-of-state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship, nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are either owner relinquished rescued from area Animal Controls or high kill shelters. The facility usually operates at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.

Story
Meet Rainy Rainy is an exceptional young dog. She looks to be a red heeler (Australian cattle dog)/Australian Kelpie mix, maybe with some Carolina Dog. She is just two years old and pawfect, except for the heartworms that she carries. We rescued Rainy from a high-kill shelter and brought her to the safety of our no-kill shelter. We've begun treating her heartworms. She's doing well and we expect her to be back to running around once she receives a clean bill of health. Rainy is extremely friendly, happy and confident. So much so that she was often used to help the previous shelter temperament test incoming dogs. She loves dogs and is great with them. She has a welcoming demeanor and is socially solid when being introduced. Rainy also likes cats and she definitely loves people. Rainy has a fun and outgoing personality. She is friendly, affectionate, smart, athletic, yet calm. She has a beautiful red dappled coat, warm brown eyes and always seems to be smiling. She is medium size at about 40 lbs. She enjoys traveling and is a good leash walker. She is housetrained and has obviously been loved and trained in her past. She knows how to sit, shake, and be adorable! Rainy will chase a tennis ball all day and drop it right between her paws. This activity has been paused until she is fully recovered. Rainy is a delight and makes us happy just being around her. If you love a heeler mix, Rainy is wonderful. Get your application in at www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. Please email our shelter (smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net) or call our shelter at 706-865-4135 and leave a message to make sure we received your application. Story
Meet Oakley This handsome young dog is Oakley. We rescued Oakley from a high kill shelter. Like so many other dogs, Oakley and his sister Opal, were in serious danger of being euthanized, until we could get them to the safety of our shelter. Once they arrived, we realized that both puppies were visually impaired and completely terrified. Since arriving, Oakley has made great progress and he’s ready to find his forever home. Oakley is a 1 1/2 years old terrier/cattle dog mix. He’s small in stature, with a gorgeous black and white coat. We think Oakley can see shadows. A special volunteer has been working with him and Oakley loves his person. He’s learned to trust. He’s learned to walk on a leash and he enjoys being outside, especially on a sunny day where he can feel the sun’s warmth. Because of his fears, Oakley will need to be the only pet in a home, with no children. Oakley is going to thrive away from the shelter. He’ll do best in a quiet home with people he trusts. This sweet dog has been through so many scary things in his life, he just needs a second chance to know what love and kindness are. A family who can show him will be richly rewarded. If interested in Oakley, please submit a dog application online at www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org Please call our shelter at 706-865-4135 or email us at smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net to let us know to be on the lookout. Story
Meet Ashlynn Ashlynn is a gorgeous girl. She is ten years old now and deserves a second chance after being at our shelter for over four years. Thrown away, Ashlynn was rescued from a high kill shelter where she was on the kill list due to her having heartworms. Heartworm positive dogs are some of the first to be euthanized. Heartworms are completely preventable and expensive to treat. But we have successfully treated Ashlynn and she is fully healthy. Ashlynn is thought to be a blue heeler/terrier mix. She is a medium size girl at just 42 lbs. She is a high energy dog and will do best with an active family. She is alert and super intelligent. She is upbeat and friendly. She will be a loyal and dedicated fur baby companion. Ashlyn is selective with dogs and will chase a cat, so she will be adopted to a home with no other pets. She knows some commands, like sit. Her whole face lights up when someone comes out to throw a tennis ball with her. Ashlynn enjoys being with people, she is almost the female version of our Oscar, long overlooked but now thriving in a quiet home. She has responded to the attention she is receiving after so many years of neglect. She especially seems to enjoy one to one attention with her person away from the shelter where she feels safe. She is a sweet girl and every day she blossoms a little more. Ashlynn enjoys riding in a car and quietly curls up for the ride. We truly think that Ashlynn has never known a happy life or was cared for. The kindness and safety she receives at our shelter is all new to her and she is soaking it all up! We can tell that she wants to make a connection with a kind person. Ashlynn is a gem and with the right person/family she is going to be amazing. She could use a soft landing in her life. Will you be the one to give it to her? If interested in Ashlynn, please submit a dog application online at www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org Please call our shelter at 706-865-4135 or email us at smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net to let us know to be on the lookout.
