Story
Meet Ashlynn Ashlynn is a gorgeous girl. She is six years young and deserves a second chance. Thrown away, Ashlynn was rescued from a high kill shelter where she was on the kill list due to her having heartworms. Heartworm positive dogs are some of the first to be euthanized. Heartworms are completely preventable and expensive to treat. But we are treating Ashlynn and she will be on her way to healthy in no time. Ashlynn is thought to be a blue heeler/terrier mix. She is a medium size girl at just 42 lbs. She is a high energy dog and will do best with an active family. She is alert and super intelligent. She is upbeat and friendly. She will be a loyal and dedicated fur baby companion. Ashlyn is selective with dogs. Some she ignores, little ones she pushes away and some she shows friendly interest and wants to play. Ashlynn is still decompressing from her former life and with love and patience, her true personality will begin to reveal itself. She knows some commands, like sit. Ashlynn enjoys being with people. She is thriving with the attention she is receiving after so many years of neglect. She especially seems to enjoy one to one attention with her person away from the shelter where she feels safe. She is a sweet girl and every day she blossoms a little more. Ashlynn enjoys riding in a car and quietly curls up for the ride. We truly think that Ashlynn has never known a happy life or was cared for. The kindness and safety she receives at our shelter is all new to her and she is soaking it all up! We can tell that she wants to make a connection with a kind person. Ashlynn is a gem and with the right person/family she is going to be amazing. She could use a soft landing in her life. Will you be the one to give it to her? If interested in Ashlynn, please submit an application online at: https://www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/page/dog-adoption-application Once an application is submitted online, you will receive an email saying your application has been successfully submitted. If you don’t receive this email within 24 hours, please check to make sure all application fields were completed or please call our shelter at 706-865-4135. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://smithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open. Adoptions and meet and greets are being scheduled by appointment only. Please email us or complete an application and someone will be in touch just as soon as they can. Story
Meet Oakley This handsome young dog is Oakley. We rescued Oakley from a high kill shelter. Like so many other dogs, Oakley and his sister Opal, were in serious danger of being euthanized, until we could get them to the safety of our shelter. Once they arrived, we realized that both puppies were visually impaired and completely terrified. Since arriving, Oakley has made great progress and he’s ready to find his forever home. Oakley is a 1 1/2 years old terrier/cattle dog mix. He’s small in stature, with a gorgeous black and white coat. We think Oakley can see shadows. A special volunteer has been working with him and Oakley loves his person. He’s learned to trust. He’s learned to walk on a leash and he enjoys being outside, especially on a sunny day where he can feel the sun’s warmth. Because of his fears, Oakley will need to be the only pet in a home, with no children. Oakley is going to thrive away from the shelter. He’ll do best in a quiet home with people he trusts. This sweet dog has been through so many scary things in his life, he just needs a second chance to know what love and kindness are. A family who can show him will be richly rewarded. If interested in Oakley, please submit an application online at: https://www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/page/dog-adoption-application Once an application is submitted online, you will receive an email saying your application has been successfully submitted. Story
Skye was found abandoned and adopted 6 years ago. She has been an inside dog, but does enjoy walks. She has been living almost exclusively with one person for most of her life. She is friendly, but has not been around children very much so can't really attest to how she will do in a family with kids. However, cattle dogs do love to herd whether it's kids or animals and Skye definitely has those traits! She loves to press against your legs and try to "herd" you. Skye needs a loving home because her owner just cannot care for her any longer. She has to be left alone for extended periods of time now which is not fair to her. She also has a skin condition since Dec that has gotten out of control. She saw a vet and was treated for yeast overgrowth on her skin, but despite antibiotics, diet changes, and hygiene it has not gotten much better. That is another reason for having to rehome her. Financially, her owner just cannot afford to give her the care she deserves. Please give her a chance!

Story
Roxy is a 6 month old pure bred Australian Cattle dog/ Blue Heeler pup. She will be around 35-38 pounds full grown. We are searching for a wonderful home and family for her to fit in. She’s sweet and super energetic which is why an experienced adopter is suggested. Roxy needs a fenced in yard to run and burn off her energy. We currently live in an apartment and cannot give her what she needs. Her breed is meant for work. She loves everyone and all animals! She loves toys and balls. She also loves kids but she gets really excited and likes to jump up sometimes. When traveling, she’s notorious for getting car sick unfortunately so her vet prescribed her anti motion sickness medication for trips. She’s caught up on all of her shots and she is also taking heart worm prevention medication. We will supply some food, leash, some of her favorite toys, and a metal cage/kennel. We will also provide her veterinary information.
